Chapter 170 Stormwind and Westfall

Chapter 170 Stormwind and Westfall

"No! The candle, the candle is my precious treasure!"

"This is the only one I have left, and I won't trade it!"

Listening to these strange voices communicating, Wayne returned to normal from the chaos of traveling between worlds.

Before anyone noticed him, he quickly drew the electric blade short sword from his belt to stay alert, first casting a layer of Quen shield on himself as a precaution, and then carefully followed the route out of the mine.

Unfortunately, just as they turned a corner, they saw two strange creatures in the mine. They were short and thin, wearing only a few pieces of cloth that barely covered their bodies, and had heads that looked like rats. They were digging at the ore on the wall and communicating in that strange language.

What's most strange is that both creatures were carrying baskets full of ore on their backs, and each had a thick candle burning on its bald head, though one still had a large section left, while the other was almost completely burned out.

A kobold?

Looking at their appearance and the iconic candle on their heads, Wayne's mind raced, and the name of the race quickly popped into his head.

However, kobolds and similar fantastical creatures exist in many fantasy worlds, and simply seeing them makes it impossible to determine which world you are in.

Fortunately, the vast majority of kobolds are monsters equivalent to goblins, and their strength is several levels lower than that of ordinary civilians.

Judging from their small size, they had neither armor nor weapons; the iron pickaxes in their hands were their only weapons, so they should not pose any threat to him.

After a brief moment of consideration, Wayne simply took out the invisibility cloak from his storage bag, put it on, and carefully followed the route out of the mine, instead of taking out his sword to kill these small fry.

It wasn't that he was afraid of these trash kobolds; it was mainly that if these kobolds were guarding this spatial rift, it would actually be safer and wouldn't arouse suspicion.

The invisibility cloak was indeed very effective. Although it could not completely conceal the slightest sound of his footsteps, it did completely hide his figure. Moreover, from the inside out, the entire invisibility cloak was completely transparent, allowing a clear view of everything outside.

With the help of his Witcher's agility and the kobolds' low intelligence, Wayne made his way through the mine without any major incidents, bypassing all the kobolds inside and reaching the outside of the mine.

It was a very small mine located at the foot of a small hill. When Wayne looked out, all he could see was a barren expanse of yellow earth. There was neither a lot of forest vegetation nor many lakes or rivers. Besides the yellow soil, there were clumps of withered wild grass growing on the ground. The blue sky looked quite desolate against the backdrop of the yellow earth.

Wayne let out a soft breath, looking at the desolate scene before him, unsure of what to do next.

His purpose in this trip was simply to determine whether this world was dangerous or a world he was familiar with. To figure out these questions, it would be best to find an intelligent being with whom he could communicate normally, so that he could deduce the answers from the smallest clues.

After thinking for a moment, Wayne suddenly saw a flock of vultures circling in the sky. A flash of inspiration struck him. He recalled the ways he communicated with birds, went to a hill with a wide view, and then whistled loudly.

Sure enough, with the help of the beast language ability, the vultures circling in the sky seemed to have sensed something. After flying around aimlessly for a while, they cautiously and suspiciously landed about seven or eight meters away from Wayne.

Staring with wide, round eyes at the tall human in front of him, he was very puzzled as to why the human could communicate with him and why he could understand the strange whistles.

Seeing that his Beast Language skill was actually working, Wayne was overjoyed. Sure enough, choosing this skill feat was the right decision; it was incredibly useful.

Afterwards, Wayne mimicked the sound frequencies of birds and made great difficulty communicating with the vultures. With the help of his special ability to be friendly with animals, the vultures, although scavengers and sometimes attacking humans, were quite friendly to Wayne and treated him almost as one of their own.

Wayne even felt that if his beast taming skills were improved to another level, he would be able to directly ask these beasts to help him fight and command them to do what they could.

A few minutes later, after a series of nonsensical and incoherent exchanges, Wayne managed to glean the information he wanted from these dim-witted vultures through questions and answers.

That is, not far to the northwest, there is a farm with a lot of crops, and a group of creatures that look similar to him live there, most likely humans.

Upon receiving this news, Wayne did not hesitate. He draped the invisibility cloak over himself, took out the magic flying carpet from his storage bag, and piloted it directly towards the northwest.

Sure enough, after flying for about fifteen minutes, a farm of about ten acres gradually came into view.

However, at this time, most of the farmland was abandoned, with only a few plots closest to the center of the farm still growing wheat-like plants.

From a distance, several figures could be seen moving back and forth between the farmland and farmhouses, seemingly doing farm work. Judging from their appearance and attire, they were indeed human.

This discovery relieved Wayne. That was good. As long as there were humans in the world, it was generally a world where normal communication was possible. If it were some messy, strange creatures, he probably would have had to turn around and leave.

He silently landed on an open area a few hundred meters from the farm, put the magic carpet and invisibility cloak into his storage bag, carried a two-handed greatsword more than a meter long on his back, and had a short sword hanging at his waist. He walked towards the farm with the air of an adventurer.

Upon entering the farm, the first thing you see is a young girl dressed as a farm worker, wearing a linen shirt on top and canvas overalls on the bottom, her chest pushing the linen shirt high, carrying a pitchfork.

She was of above-average appearance, with brown hair tied in a ponytail, and was nearly 1.8 meters tall. Her skin was tanned to a wheat color from working in the sun all the time.

When Wayne saw her, she also saw Wayne.

The farm girl was taken aback at first, but after seeing Wayne's weapons and armor, she gripped her pitchfork more cautiously and asked in a slightly hoarse voice:

"Who are you, and why are you on my farm?"

Hearing that there was no problem communicating with each other, Wayne was delighted. He raised his hands to indicate that he meant no harm, and said with a smile on his handsome face:

"Don't be nervous, madam. I'm a mercenary. I'm here to buy some supplies, like food, water, and alcohol, and also to see if you have any requests that you'd like us mercenaries to fulfill."

This world truly seems to be all about looks. Seeing Wayne's handsome face and kind demeanor, the farm girl's attitude immediately became much friendlier. Although she didn't put down her pitchfork, after considering for a few seconds, she still said to Wayne:

"A mercenary? You're an adventurer, right? From Stormwind?"

"Come with me, I'll take you to meet my parents. There have been a lot of wild boars around the farm lately, we don't know where they came from, they're always destroying our crops at night. If you can help us get rid of them, my parents should be willing to pay you a reward."

Stormwind!

Upon hearing the name, Wayne roughly guessed what world he was in. While feeling a surge of joy, he couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.

The world of Azeroth! World of Warcraft!

A world being spied upon by the Burning Legion!

He suppressed the complex thoughts in his mind, maintained a smile on his face, and followed behind the farm girl toward the farmhouse in the center of the farm.

After walking about several dozen meters, a middle-aged couple dressed as farmers came over, followed by two burly farm workers carrying farm tools.

They all looked at Wayne, who was clad in weapons and armor, with wary eyes, their gazes lingering for several seconds, especially on the massive two-handed sword behind him.

The atmosphere eased slightly after the farm girl whispered a few words in the couple's ears. The middle-aged, burly man dressed as a rancher walked up to Wayne, carefully looked him up and down for a moment, and then asked:

"Where did you come from, adventurer? We rarely have adventurers in our Westfall."

Upon hearing the words "Westworld," Wayne's eyes flashed, realizing his current location. He felt a wave of relief wash over him, nodded to the rancher, and said:

"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir."

"I am not from Stormwind. I am an adventurer from the Kingdom of Lordaeron. I have been adventuring all over the world and looking for commissions in various places. I only recently came to Westfall from Stormwind."

The rancher remained silent for a few seconds upon hearing this. He could tell from Wayne's superior weapons and equipment that his opponent's strength was not to be underestimated. After considering it, a smile suddenly appeared on his serious face, and he said:

"Since they are adventurers from afar, they must be quite tired after their long journey."

"Welcome to our Lawrence Farm. Let's put the commission aside for now. I'll have my daughter take you to the restaurant for a simple lunch."

"We'll talk about serious matters after you've rested."

"The Westfall has been in chaos lately. Not only are wild animals rampant, but the gnolls of the Riverpath Clan are also robbing people everywhere. I've also heard that a bandit organization called the Defias Brotherhood has sprung up near the Deadmines."

"If you come here looking for work, you'll definitely have plenty to do."
