Chapter 160 The Deal and the Black Bear Bissogg
Chapter 160 The Deal and the Black Bear Bissogg
After putting away the magic carpet, Wayne glanced around at the astonished crowd. Seeing that they were all looking at him with surprise, Wayne didn't pay much attention.
If this were in the wizarding world, he would most likely put away the flying carpet outside the city and walk into the city on foot, without attracting attention.
But once he arrived in Middle-earth, Wayne wasn't going to keep a low profile. To make a name for himself in this world where good and evil are clearly defined, he needed to do some high-profile things so that people would remember his reputation, his story, and his immense power.
To summarize in one simple sentence.
The world needs heroes.
Although he has no immediate plans to undertake missions or fight against the dark forces and is currently in a phase of biding his time and honing his skills, reputation and prestige are things that need to be accumulated slowly.
After looking around, Wayne quickly noticed the location of the blacksmith's shop and saw the handsome, distinguished dwarf man.
Although his memory was a bit hazy, Wayne quickly recognized the dwarf's appearance and demeanor as Thorin Oakenshield, the famous handsome dwarf prince from the movies.
Seeing that the other person was also staring at him and scrutinizing him, Wayne gave a polite smile, nodded to Thorin, and then, ignoring everyone else's gaze, walked up to him and spoke directly:
"Sir dwarf, my name is Wayne. I have come to Brie in the hope of finding a group of dwarf builders to construct a manor for me."
"It may be presumptuous of me, but I've heard that dwarven artisans are highly skilled. You seem to be a person of considerable standing among the dwarves. Could you introduce me to some of their artisans?"
Sony maintained a silent and dignified expression, scrutinizing the strange man before him with sharp eyes. Suddenly, he noticed that the man's ears were pointed, like those of an elf, and his heart skipped a beat.
Although the man before him was strong and didn't resemble the tall, delicate elves who lived in the forest, he still couldn't help but ask:
"What's wrong with your ears? Are you an elf?"
Upon hearing this, Wayne simply shook his head slightly and said:
"No, I am not an elf. I just have some special bloodline in my body, which is why I have pointed ears."
"However, this has nothing to do with my request. You can treat me as an ordinary guest. In the future, my manor will definitely need to do business with the blacksmith shop."
"Of course, if you're unwilling to tell me the answer, I'll ask someone else."
Thorin shook his head. As the leader of the dwarves in Brie, he certainly wouldn't refuse business that came to him.
Although he was quite curious about Wayne's bloodline and his various wondrous abilities, including flight, out of a sense of responsibility towards his kin, he put down his hammer, handed it to the dwarven apprentice beside him, and said to Wayne:
"I know all the dwarves in this town. They are all excellent craftsmen. If you are looking for a group of architects to help you build your manor, no one would be more suitable than them."
"Let's go, I'll take you to find Balin. He's a master builder among the dwarves, and he has a group of workers working for him."
"You can negotiate the specifics of the deal with him yourself!"
After saying this, Thorin bowed politely to Wayne and said:
"I am Thorin Oak Shield of House Durin, and the leader of the dwarves in this area."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Wayne."
Upon hearing this, Wayne feigned great surprise, then politely returned the greeting and said:
"It's a pleasure to see you too, Your Highness Thorin."
"I have heard of your valiant fighting against the orcs, and under your leadership, the dwarves of the south have come to live a peaceful life."
"You once cut off the arm of the orc chieftain Azog, and your name is known throughout the world as Oak Shield."
When Thorin heard Wayne mention Azog and the orcs, a flash of hatred appeared in his eyes. His grandfather, father, and many of his kin had all died at the hands of the orcs. It could be said that every dwarf and orc was a mortal enemy, the kind who would fight to the death the moment they met.
He suppressed his anger, nodded to Wayne, and then took the initiative to walk in front of the two of them, preparing to take this mysterious stranger to meet Bahrain.
Without hesitation, Wayne followed behind Sony, admiring the scenery of Brie.
To be honest, the scenery in Brie is quite unique. Dwarf, human, and hobbit-style buildings are mixed together. It is rare to see such a harmonious scene in the wizarding world. On one street, people of different races walk together harmoniously, greeting each other warmly with smiles on their faces, and helping each other when they encounter difficulties.
Even seeing a human with pointed ears like Wayne here wouldn't surprise many people. In this world, unless you're a dark race like an orc, generally no one will harbor ill intentions towards you.
Thorin remained silent throughout the journey. The dwarves along the way would respectfully bow to him when they saw him, and Wayne, following behind him, would also attract the attention of the dwarves.
However, as a Witcher, he was already used to all kinds of stares, and he calmly enjoyed the scenery of Brie Town.
Suddenly, Wayne stopped in his tracks. In a square that resembled the center of a town, he spotted something quite familiar: a signboard standing in a crowded area.
The notice board wasn't far from him, and with Wayne's eyesight, he spotted the huge bounty poster on it at a glance.
"Please wait a moment, Prince Thorin."
"I'd like to go take a look at the notice board, could I have a moment?"
Upon hearing this, Thorin turned to look at Wayne and the notice board, immediately recognizing what Wayne wanted to see.
"Would you like to see the bounty on Bissogg the Black Bear?"
The dwarf prince was of a fairly good temper; he showed neither anger nor impatience, but instead walked with Wayne toward the notice board, explaining as they went:
"That's a huge black bear that only started roaming the nearby forest last year."
"It is two meters tall when lying on the ground and four meters tall when standing. It can snap a small tree in half with one swipe of its paw and bite off an enemy's thigh in one bite. Its roar can terrify an ordinary person's heart. It runs faster than a wild boar."
"No one knows where it came from, and no one knows where its lair is."
"Since the discovery of this black bear, hunters, travelers, woodcutters, and so on, have all died at its hands, probably about eight people in total."
"Later I heard that some young human men wanted to challenge it, but in the end two died, two were crippled, and three others escaped with their crippled companions."
"The town's officials have issued a reward of three hundred gold coins, a substantial sum, part of which is said to have been raised by the families of the deceased."
Listening to Thorin's explanation, the two walked to the notice board and looked at the lifelike giant bear drawn on it, as well as some information marked below it, such as the bounty amount and the location where the giant bear was found.
Wayne suddenly asked Thorin with interest:
"Prince Thorin, do you know who painted this black bear on the bounty poster?"
"His drawing skills are excellent; just seeing the terrifying black bear in this portrait would probably scare away some hotheads!"
Hearing Wayne's slightly teasing tone, Thorin frowned, then said:
"You don't need to call me Prince Thorin. You are not my subject. Just call me Thorin."
"I remember this painting was painted by a female painter in town. I didn't pay attention to her name, but it seems that one of the deceased was his brother, and she also paid part of the reward money."
After saying this, Thorin looked at Wayne with an ambiguous expression and said seriously:
"Would you like to accept this commission?"
"This black bear has thick hide and tough flesh. The young men who escaped said that ordinary arrows could only barely pierce its fur and could not cause any real damage to it."
"Although you look very strong and have some amazing abilities, you'd better think carefully before you challenge the black bear Bisog."
Hearing Thorin's advice, Wayne nodded his thanks kindly and then said:
"Thank you for reminding me, Thorin."
"Actually, in my hometown, what I'm best at is hunting down those monsters that wreak havoc in the area."
"I will accept the bounty, but before that, let's go see this Mr. Bahrain you mentioned."
Thorin didn't say anything more after hearing this, but gave Wayne a deep look before continuing to lead the way.
