Chapter 136 The Kidnapped Child

Fire is the natural enemy of all flesh and blood creatures, not to mention Triss's fire is no ordinary fire, but magical fire that condenses higher energy.

Once her fire spell was ready, in less than three minutes, both the wolves and the crows in the sky were quickly turned into corpses on the ground through the cooperation of the two.

After defeating the attacking monster, Triss let out a soft breath and looked at Wayne with a strange gaze. During the last battle in the catacombs, the two sorceresses had not witnessed the Witcher's heroic figure in battle, but today they finally saw Wayne's superhuman combat abilities firsthand.

When Triss asked for his opinion, Wayne couldn't help but feel a little moved. This was why Triss respected other people's opinions so much.

If it were any other sorceress, such as Yennefer or other members of the sorceress guild, given their strong personalities, they would definitely make their own decisions and wouldn't follow anyone else's arrangements.

Much of the information on Witcher consists of firsthand accounts of how previous Witchers hunted monsters, making it far more authentic and reliable than the books written by sorcerers based on analysis and speculation.

"In that case, let's use this area as the edge and circle around it to see if we can find any other totems. They're so conspicuous, finding them shouldn't be too difficult."

"Okay, let's do it this way."

After Wayne nodded in agreement, the two rode their horses and circled through the forest.

This is a primeval forest. Although the mine is only about five or six miles away, geographically speaking, they are already deep in the primeval forest.

The area is covered with huge trees that block out the sun, and the ground is covered with all sorts of vines and stones. As you walk around, you can also see poisonous insects and snakes clinging to various inconspicuous places, making it quite dangerous.

Soon, the two passed through a dense forest and saw a group of simply dressed villagers, carrying various hoes, pitchforks, and other farming tools, fighting against a pack of wolves and crows.

A gigantic troll, its body encased in stone, wielded a massive wooden club, protecting a terrifying totem made of various bones. It was surrounded by a group of men, who were fiercely fighting it.

Although there were forty or fifty villagers, the number of wild beasts attacking them was only half that. However, these untrained humans were timid and hesitant when fighting against the ferocious beasts, and could not exert their advantage in combat at all.

Wayne's eyes were very sharp, and he spotted the black-haired young man, Allen, among the villagers at a glance. Allen was holding a wood-chopping axe, crouching behind the troll, and chopped the troll hard on the back with the axe.

Unfortunately, the troll's back was its strongest defensive position, and the axe blow only sent stone chips flying, without causing any damage to the troll.

The troll was no pushover either. Sensing the attack from behind, it immediately swung its club, sending Allen flying high into the air. Had the other villagers not caught him, he would have been seriously injured.

Seeing this, Wayne could no longer stand idly by. He turned to Triss and said:

"You go deal with that troll, then destroy the totem. I'll go help the villagers fight the beasts."

Having said that, he couldn't wait to hear the sorceress's reply. He leaped off his horse, used the electric blade in his hand to descend from the sky, and pinned a wolf that was trying to ambush him to one knee, the blade piercing through its skull.

After killing the wolf, Wayne suddenly remembered that he seemed to have forgotten to collect the loot from the pack of beasts he had just killed at the previous totem. Although wolf liver wasn't exactly a rare material, it could still be sold for some money.

Of course, this thought only flashed through his mind. After killing one wolf, Wayne acted without hesitation and quickly took down several more wolves that were trying to attack the villagers by sneak attacking them.

The electric blade in his hand was no ordinary weapon. The skin and bones of wolves were no more durable than fruits under the sharp edge of this weapon. As long as the angle of the slash was right, it could easily cut these wolves in half or cut off their heads.

Triss acted swiftly, and after reciting a series of awkward and difficult incantations, the sorceress shouted to the villagers who were besieging the trolls.

"Leave that totem; I'm about to cast a spell."

The villagers who were besieging the troll were stunned for a few seconds upon hearing this, but fortunately, Allen knew Triss, and he immediately called the villagers to retreat to a safe distance.

As Triss raised her hands as if lifting something, palms facing upwards above her head, a deafening roar followed, and bursts of flame shot into the sky from where the troll and totem were located, igniting a giant pillar of fire several meters high that enveloped the troll and the beast bone totem in scorching heat.

A few minutes later, after Wayne had killed all the beasts that had attacked the villagers, both the trolls and the terrifying totem made of animal bones had been reduced to charcoal in Triss's flames.

Wayne surveyed the surroundings, and after confirming that no other monsters were rushing towards them, he grabbed Allen and asked:

"What's going on? Why are you and the villagers here?"

Allen rubbed his injured shoulder, looking sadly at the injured villagers around him.

Some people had their limbs bitten by wolves and might be left with disabilities; several people had their eyes pecked out by crows; and some people had their bones broken by the attacks of trolls and were lying on the ground howling in pain. But even so, no one escaped and wanted to continue fighting.

"Lord Wayne, I'm not entirely sure either. When I returned to the village from Lady Triss's residence, the villagers were in a great uproar."

"Because after we left, Link returned to the village with the monster. While the people were panicking and running away, he kidnapped five children from the village and then fled into the forest."

"The villagers in our village have always been very united. Seeing this situation, they immediately organized this team to go into the forest and rescue the children."

"We chased them all the way here, but just as we arrived near this totem, we were attacked by a group of monsters. There were too many of them. Fortunately, with your and Lady Triss's help, we didn't suffer heavy casualties."

Wayne and Triss exchanged a heavy glance. They had initially thought they would only be dealing with a stag-headed demon and its minions, but now it seemed that these monsters would also be holding five children hostage.

Given their kind natures, they would definitely be hesitant and timid during the fight. Wayne considered for a few seconds, glanced at the injured villagers around them, reached into his pouch and took out some first-aid supplies such as bandages and needles and thread, handed them to Allen, and said:

Although the totem wasn't completely destroyed, dealing with the stag-headed demon would be a bit dangerous, but taking some risks was necessary in order to save the children as quickly as possible.
