Chapter 12 The Ring of Elements
Chapter 12 The Ring of Elements
Kaer Morhen's winters are undisturbed by outsiders, and life is relatively peaceful, making it ideal for focused training.
After obtaining the method to increase mutation level, Wayne became even more enthusiastic about teaching Geralt.
Accompanied by the skilled swordsman White Wolf, Wayne took up his silver sword and began wreaking havoc near Kaer Mohen.
His swordsmanship was both fast and ruthless, and many monsters suffered as a result, all in his quest to obtain more materials for making potions.
Monsters that are relatively easy to deal with, such as water ghosts, kikimo, ghouls, and Andrag bugs, have been almost wiped out by Wayne's frequent attacks.
This puzzled Geralt, who had been by his side the whole time. He wondered why this young witcher was so obsessed with collecting the materials needed to make potions. Did he like the smell of potions?
However, Wayne's frantic potion-making spree lasted less than a month before he had to stop.
In this cold winter, both the spirits needed to brew medicine and the herbs that grow all over the world are rare and expensive resources.
Without prior preparation, it would be impossible to support such a large amount of consumption.
Even so, Wayne reaped considerable benefits from this month of intensive drug training.
From the moment he learned to make Witcher Potions, he would take at least three potions every day, partly to hone his mutation skills and partly to allow his body to adapt to the potions and enhance his poison resistance.
This month-long effort not only raised his mutation level by one level, but also granted him a new secondary skill.
Alchemy LV1: Potion effects +4%.
Such achievements are inseparable from the support of several demon hunters within the Wolf School.
That evening, Wayne prepared a sumptuous meal to reward everyone at dinner.
There were smoked sausages, pickled salted fish, braised rabbit, roasted deer leg, delicious fish soup, and sweet wild vegetables found in the forest, all of which made up ten dishes.
As he ate the soft white bread, Lambert couldn't help but exclaim:
"Ever since I left Kaer Morhen Castle at the beginning of the year, my life as a wanderer has been like dog shit, and I've been missing Wayne's cooking the whole time."
"He can always create amazing flavors from ordinary ingredients."
"Ever since then, I've been looking forward to winter."
"This year, we got back to Kaer Mohan half a month earlier than in previous years."
Aiskel nodded, ladled himself a bowl of delicious fish soup from the plate, and drank half of it in one gulp before speaking:
"Wayne's cooking is even better than last year."
Geralt was also enjoying a braised rabbit leg, eating it intently without interrupting.
For the past month, accompanying Wayne in gathering herbs and slaying monsters in the cold forest every day has been no easy task.
However, the Wolf School of Witchers has always been extremely united. Although they are not related by blood, they are closer than family, and no one is stingy with their sacrifices for their brothers.
Sitting at the head of the table, Vesemir, who was nearly three hundred years old, looked at the warm scene before him and couldn't help but feel a little emotional.
Since the Witcher Order fell apart, life has become increasingly difficult for Witchers, and opportunities to share delicious food and drinks together like this have become fewer and fewer.
He coughed lightly, drawing the attention of the others, before speaking to Geralt:
"Since Wayne will be leaving Kaer Morhen after the spring."
"Geralt, tomorrow, take him to the Elemental Ring in the back mountains."
"Help him activate the emblem of our Wolf School."
"For us witchers, magical badges are an indispensable tool."
"It allows us to detect magical fluctuations around us, preventing magic from blinding us."
Geralt hadn't reacted yet, but Wayne's eyes lit up when he heard about the Elemental Ring.
The Elemental Ring is a valuable item; he'd been in Kaer Morhen for almost a year and a half and had nearly forgotten about it.
As anyone who has played the game knows, the Elemental Ring not only enhances the Witcher's Sign power and charges magical items, but in The Witcher 3, it also grants Geralt a skill point.
I just wonder if it has these wonderful uses in the real world?
Upon hearing this, Geralt picked up a beer and downed it in one gulp, shrugged nonchalantly, and said:
"Leave it to me, Vesemir."
"This isn't the first time I've done this."
The old witcher hummed in agreement, then, as if suddenly remembering something, added:
"By the way, you need to be careful of those trolls on the troll's head."
"They seem to have run into some trouble lately, so try to avoid conflict with them."
After saying this, the old witcher turned to Wayne with a serious expression and said:
"And you, child, I heard from Geralt that you've been drinking potions a lot lately, even when you're not fighting."
"These things contain a lot of toxins, and even if we are witchers, they will damage our bodies."
"I don't know what you're thinking, but for your health, you'd better stop doing this."
Upon hearing this, Wayne initially wanted to explain further, but seeing the concerned expression on the old witcher's face, he could only nod and say:
"Okay, teacher, I'll be careful."
He decided to reduce the amount of potions he drank during his time in Kaer Morhen. He didn't have many potions in stock, so if he drank them slowly, he might be able to last until spring.
After Vesemir finished speaking, the table fell silent again. Apart from Lambert, the others were not talkative.
Besides, the delicious food on the table was so tempting that no one had much time for idle chatter.
The next morning, Wayne, feeling somewhat excited, went to Geralt's room and woke up the still-sleeping white wolf.
He couldn't wait to see if the Elemental Ring would have any special effect on him.
If it could grant him a skill point like in The Witcher 3, then searching for the elemental rings around the world would be a good way for him to increase his strength in the future.
Geralt had a fairly good temper; after being woken up by someone, he muttered a curse under his breath and then said:
"Little guy, you're too impatient."
"Didn't the old man teach you? The most important things for a Witcher are patience and caution."
"Most of the careless ones will die in the monster's lair within a year of completing their training."
Wayne smiled somewhat sheepishly, and said, half-jokingly:
"Sorry, Geralt, I was just too interested in the elemental rings and magical emblems."
"I've prepared a sumptuous breakfast for you."
"Let's finish eating early so we can set off sooner. After we're done, we can still find time to go hunting in the forest and bring back some game."
