Chapter 113 Green Dragon and Giant

Chapter 113 Green Dragon and Giant

Just when Wayne thought the villagers of Lower Warren would obediently comply, the burly middle-aged man he had just grabbed with one hand suddenly stood up and shouted:

"You bastard, who do you think you are? You come in and start hitting people, why should we listen to you?"

"Even if you kill me today, I will not do as you say."

As he spoke, he even struck a pose as if he were bravely facing execution, which looked rather comical.

Hearing this and seeing the burly man's defiant expression, Wayne was shocked. Were the commoners of Velen really this courageous now? Didn't they see that the three of them were fully armed and looked like they could fight? How dare they resist?

His fearlessness in the face of power earned him a little admiration.

He turned to look at the village chief Jeff, wondering if he would also join the rebellion. If so, Wayne really wouldn't care about the lives of these troublemakers.

Seeing Wayne looking over, the old village chief looked somewhat embarrassed. He immediately ordered several men around him to drag the middle-aged man away, and said with a sigh:

"Sir, please don't mind, this man's parents attended a banquet on Mount Bould when he was a child, and then abandoned him and left."

"Because he had no parents to take care of him, he later damaged his brain. Although he seems normal now, he always does some very strange things."

The feast on Mount Bold—no wonder, it was a cannibalistic feast of the ladies of the woods, and none of the mortals who attended survived.

Seeing that Village Chief Jeff was relatively reasonable, Wayne, still feigning a frown, said loudly:

"We only helped you out of chivalry. If you are unwilling to cooperate, I will not force you and will leave with my men now."

Jeff quickly waved and bowed, gesturing to some of the village lads to follow George back to the village to move things. He also tried his best to persuade them to stay, saying:

"No, no, thank you very much for your help, sir. We will do as you instruct."

These refugees included both the elderly and the young. Because of their hasty evacuation, they carried very few supplies, not even a handful of proper weapons. They didn't know when this matter would end, so how could they possibly refuse the help of a group of soldiers who looked very capable?

About two hours later, the sun had risen high in the sky, and the morning chill had dissipated considerably due to the sunlight.

George led the young villagers back from the village with a lot of supplies, which finally relieved the refugees' urgent needs.

However, according to him, many houses in the village have been burned down, and even after this disaster is over, some villagers who have lost their homes will face a difficult life.

However, this kind of thing happens every year, in every kingdom and every place, because of war, natural disasters, man-made disasters, or monster attacks, civilians are always displaced and die tragically.

They were just witchers, not kings or lords, so they couldn't and didn't want to concern themselves with such matters.

While waiting for Borch, Wayne and George began sorting through the elven manuscripts that had been found.

They soon discovered that the manuscripts were dated differently than they had imagined. If the site was thousands of years old, then much of the content recorded in the manuscripts had only occurred within the last few hundred years.

Although I only glanced at it briefly, the contents of the manuscript were quite disorganized, including forging blueprints, potion recipes, historical secrets, and magical knowledge. It didn't seem like some kind of elven legacy; rather, it seemed like the private collection of some human magician.

Just like the Griffin School's set of blueprints that George found, this thing is very likely the one that was left behind when the Griffin School's headquarters, Kael'thas Fortress, was attacked. It's just a mystery how it ended up here.

Moreover, given the humid environment of the swamp, without magical protection, these books, preserved using special paper, could not possibly have lasted for thousands of years without decaying.

After some discussion, the two guessed that the elven ruins were probably a secret stronghold or laboratory of some magician.

These manuscripts were the private collection of that mage. Perhaps decades ago, that mage died in an accident, and with his death, the protection of magic was lost, which is why this ruin can now be freely entered and exited by mortals.

As a trophy of this operation, Wayne decided to keep the original manuscript himself, while George could make copies or transcribe several copies to share the spoils.

Of course, being someone who wasn't short of money, Wayne wasn't stingy either. He took out one hundred Orens and gave them to Jeff, the village chief of Lower Warren, so that he could arrange some compensation to be distributed to the villagers.

The reason for not giving more money was not only because wealth should not be flaunted and could easily arouse greed in others, but more importantly, these manuscripts did not belong to the villagers of Lower Waren. They even wanted to use these books as firewood, as one hundred Oren coins would be enough for their village to burn firewood for a year.

If they encounter some heartless people, they might not only refuse to pay, but also kill all the villagers to silence them.

The villagers, including the village chief Jeff, were not particularly knowledgeable. They were all very happy and even grateful to see someone exchange one hundred orens for these worthless pieces of paper that they could only use as firewood.

They generously provided a lot of straw rope for binding and helped Wayne pack all the manuscripts.

After waiting for about an hour, when the villagers of Lower Warren began to cook inside the ruins, Wayne finally heard a familiar dragon roar coming from outside the ruins.

That's the cry of Golden Dragon Borchi.

The other villagers trembled with fear at the dragon's roar, while Wayne winked at George and they walked out of the underground ruins together.

Just as they stepped out of the underground ruins, before they even saw the golden dragon, Borch had already transmitted his voice to their ears using telepathy.

"I found the green dragon in a valley a few dozen miles away, but something seems off about it."

"I'll take you to see it."

After saying this, Borch's golden figure emerged from behind a large rock nearby.

Without hesitation, Wayne and George climbed onto the golden dragon's back and, amidst the loud flapping of its wings, took to the sky.

During the flight, Borch began to recount the intelligence he had gathered in more detail.

It turns out that after Borch left the underground ruins, he immediately transformed into a golden dragon and searched for traces of the green dragon in the swamp.

For a while at first, he found nothing, but perseverance pays off. After searching for several hours, he finally heard the sounds of fighting in a valley.

When he flew over, he saw a green dragon being attacked by many monsters in the valley, and the attackers were a group of human-faced demon birds that had built their nests in the valley.

Strangely, a powerful dragon should not be afraid of these smaller monsters whose claws cannot even penetrate its hide, but this green dragon behaved quite unusually when it was surrounded.

It seemed as if it had gone blind, with many attacks landing on empty air. Moreover, when surrounded, it did not choose to escape, but simply passively defended itself, which seemed very strange.

Even so, Borch did not act rashly, but immediately flew back to the ruins to find Wayne and George to discuss the matter together.

Faced with this outcome, neither the experienced George nor the inexperienced Wayne could determine what had happened. They could only decide to fly to the scene first and make a judgment after seeing the actual situation.

Borch flew very fast, and after determining the direction of the target, the two men and the dragon arrived at the valley he mentioned in about twenty minutes.

However, the situation in the valley was now quite different from what Borch had described.

This is a green dragon that is about ten meters long. Although it is smaller than Borch's golden dragon, it is much stronger than his wife Milgatabrek. Judging from its physical characteristics, it should be a male green dragon.

Most of the human-faced demon birds that were besieging the green dragon had been killed or wounded, leaving only seven or eight relatively strong demon birds circling around the green dragon, occasionally causing some aerial interference.

The green dragon's enemy at this time was a gray giant who was six meters tall, ugly, and wearing unknown skeletal armor.

The giant held a huge wooden club carved from a log, constantly waving it to block the green dragon's aerial attacks. Whenever the green dragon got too far away, the giant would pick up a stone from the ground and, like a catapult, forcefully smash it into the green dragon's body.

They had clearly been fighting for quite some time; both the green dragon and the giant bore obvious wounds, with bright red blood flowing from their bodies, leaving them covered in injuries.

Seeing this, George stroked his mustache, a clear look of confusion on his face, and said in bewilderment:

"What's going on? Why is the green dragon fighting the giants again?"

"What grudge do they have? I'm completely confused."

Wayne was equally confused. Both the green dragon and the giant were quite powerful monsters, and both were intelligent beings with a sense of territory.

Logically speaking, without special reasons, the two of them would not fight.

Just as the three approached the valley, the gray giant seized an opening. As the green dragon flew past him, his large hand grabbed the dragon's tail, and before the dragon could break free, he picked up a sharp stone from the ground and plunged it deep into the dragon's belly.

Upon seeing this, Borch immediately said in an anxious tone:

"This green dragon is going to lose. We'd better save it before we figure things out."
