Chapter 308 A Brand New Idea, The Wilderness Series
"Can you implant this 'construct' into me?"
Upon hearing the name "Construct," Christina's heart stirred. Suppressing her reservations, she asked aloud.
The name "Shadow Annihilation" truly struck a chord with Christina.
At the moment she was abandoned, she had only one thought in her mind: if she could survive, she would definitely take revenge.
Her past experiences forever changed Christina's personality.
Revenge had become her instinct.
"sure."
Link readily agreed, but then changed the subject, "But not now."
"When?"
Christina immediately pressed for more information, appearing somewhat impatient.
"Let's wait a couple of days."
Link estimated the time; the fairy servants that Sage Paro had sent to other legions should be able to provide feedback from actual combat by now.
Whether "Constructs" can increase combat power, by how much, what are their advantages, what are their disadvantages, and where improvements are needed, will be known in due course.
Moreover, Christina has stayed in the main campus world long enough.
The fact that the academy isn't pressuring her doesn't mean Lin Ke can keep her indefinitely.
Thinking of this, Link asked, "You're not in a hurry to go back to Shadow City, are you? Wouldn't it be nice to spend more time with your daughter once you're back home?"
"it is good."
Christina immediately agreed.
Whether it's out of longing for her daughter or waiting for the "Shadow Annihilation" set to be implemented, Christina is willing to be patient.
"Jasmine, could you please take Christina home?"
Link looked at Jasmine, who was staring thoughtfully at the "Shadow Annihilation" set design, and made a request.
"Can."
Jasmine nodded, looked away, and said, "Let's go, I'll see you off."
"Thank you, Link."
Christina thanked Link first, then said to Jasmine, "Thank you for your help, Jasmine."
"You're welcome, it's my pleasure."
Jasmine spoke sincere and polite words as she took the lead and walked out.
Soon, Jasmine drove the vehicle and took Christina to the interdimensional portal.
Link stopped paying attention to his newly designed masterpiece and instead took out his encrypted cross-border communicator to send a communication request to Asander Cornet.
Shortly after, the communication was established, and a holographic projection appeared before Link, holding Asander and Garona.
"I heard your mission failed?"
Before Link could speak, Asander asked the question first.
"The news spread so fast?"
Link paused, somewhat surprised.
"hehe……"
Asander chuckled a few times, then explained, "When you, Link Grand, went on a mission, you were summoned by both the Academy and the team leader. So many wizards were watching. As soon as your team returned and the Academy updated the mission status, it was immediately shared on several of the Academy's forums by busybodies. And..."
After a pause, Asander raised an eyebrow, his flippant expression returning, and said in a teasing tone, "And one of your team members publicly accused you on several major forums of being passive in your approach to the mission, causing all that trouble, only to end up running away in disarray. That person even said you're a coward, that you cowered after finding out that what you were going to steal was the legacy of a saint."
He's right.
After listening quietly to Asander's account, Link not only showed no anger, but also nodded in agreement without any hesitation. "After deducing that what they wanted to seize was the legacy of a saint, I backed down."
"Well……"
Asander was taken aback by Link's response and was speechless for a moment.
Link continued, "If it were the inheritance of any of the other three saints, perhaps I would dare to try and snatch it, but the inheritance of Saint Nostrodam..."
After a moment's hesitation, Link looked directly into Asander's holographic projection and asked earnestly, "Do you dare?"
"I dare not."
Asander immediately shook his head.
"What a joke! The lineage of a mystical wizard saint specializing in prophecy and curses—what right does Asander Cornet have to meddle in that?"
He's only been married a short time and doesn't even have a baby yet; he hasn't lived long enough.
"I wouldn't dare."
Seeing this, Link smiled slightly.
"Alright."
At this point, Asander had to abandon his intention to mock Link and asked, "What urgent matter do you have to discuss with me?"
Link looked at Garona, who was nestled in Asander's arms, her big, dark eyes fixed on him, and gestured with his eyes: "Make arrangements now, go pick someone up."
"Um?"
Asander hesitated for a moment, then quickly understood. "No problem."
"That's all. I'll head back in a few days."
"OK."
After hanging up the encrypted cross-border communication, Link leaned back and closed his eyes.
These past few days I've been battling wits with "air," which has taken a lot of mental and physical exertion, and I'm quite tired.
A pair of fair, delicate hands rested on either side of Link's head, gently massaging it.
After seeing Christina off, Jasmine didn't linger and quickly returned.
Upon entering the study, I noticed that Link looked tired, so I immediately did my best to help him relax.
As for why such primitive methods were used...
If you can relieve fatigue in an instant with witchcraft, how can you show your sincerity?
"You should sit down and rest too."
After enjoying the moment for a while, Link opened his eyes, reached out and grabbed Jasmine's left hand, and made a sound to signal her.
"Um."
Jasmine didn't refuse, and sat down diagonally opposite Link, saying, "You should rest more, don't push yourself too hard."
"fine."
Link grinned. "Not tired."
Jasmine glared at Link but didn't say anything.
The two sat quietly for a while, tacitly enjoying the peaceful leisure.
Afterwards, the two of them went back to their respective bedrooms without even having dinner.
These days, Link is exhausted from his mission, and Jasmine is equally busy with her research and experiments.
Both of them need to get plenty of rest.
The next day.
It was the weekend, and I had no classes.
After sending Jasmine to the laboratory to conduct research and experiments related to beast taming wizards, Link headed towards the pharmacy teaching and research group's laboratory building.
"You still remember me, your older sister?"
Upon entering Sage Serenity's office on the top floor, before Link could even greet her, he was met with a sarcastic remark.
"How could I forget?"
Link chuckled sheepishly, "That's why I came to see you first thing this morning."
"Really? What about yesterday?"
Sage Celine, however, was unmoved by this and coldly asked, "Yesterday you were only concerned with your little girlfriend and the little lover you brought back, and forgot about your old sister?"
This question is practically a proposition.
Link dared not take it lightly and quickly replied solemnly, "Sister Celine is in the prime of her life, how can you describe yourself as 'old'? It's really inappropriate. Besides, I accept having a girlfriend, but you can't talk nonsense about a mistress. Christina and I are completely innocent; she already has a daughter."
"Tsk!"
Sage Celine looked Link up and down, and said in an incredulous tone, "I didn't realize you were so disgusted that someone had a daughter! Tsk tsk... So this is the kind of person you are. I regret ever taking you in as my brother."
Link was left speechless and bewildered by the criticism.
When a woman gets angry, she can truly make the dead come back to life and the non-existent into something real.
That's utterly absurd.
However, Link didn't dare to throw a tantrum at this moment. He quickly put on a pleading look, clasped his hands together, and begged for mercy: "Sister, dear sister, please let me go. If you keep talking like this, I'm afraid I won't even be able to keep my girlfriend."
"Hehehe..."
Sage Celine was amused and let out a series of clear laughs.
After a long while, the laughter subsided, and Sage Celine regained her serious demeanor: "Alright, I'll let you go for now."
Pointing to the chair in front of her desk, Sage Celine said, "Sit down, busy man."
Link breathed a sigh of relief and sat down in the chair.
"Sis, what's the feedback from the actual battle? How did you perform?"
Now that we can finally get down to business, Link immediately got straight to the point.
"See for yourself."
Sage Celine made a few moves on the office computer and brought up a huge folder.
It contains real-world feedback from fairy servants who were sent to other legions, including icons, pictures, videos, and summary reports from the "Construct" project team.
Link first skimmed through it, then picked out the key points to read carefully.
It took Link nearly an hour to finish reading the practical feedback and get a general idea of what was going on.
"How is it? Are you satisfied?"
While attending to her own affairs and patiently waiting, Sage Celine noticed Link's movements and casually asked a question.
"Very good, even better than I expected."
Link spoke his mind truthfully, and no one cared; saying so would sound like self-promotion.
"I agree too."
Sage Celine echoed this sentiment, then said, "Given the excellent results of the first phase, Paro is preparing to expand the scale of the second phase. What are your thoughts?"
"Is the Sage of Paro in a hurry?"
Before answering the questions directly, Link asked this question first.
"hehe……"
Sage Celine glanced at Link, seemingly indifferent, and said, "Fighting the Abyss Demons has drained Paro's coffers, they're broke right now. Now that they have such a good source of servants, they have to find a way to make a profit from it, right? Servants aren't just drawn from the academy, other legions also rent them out themselves."
"I see."
Link seemed to be deep in thought upon hearing this.
He had always wondered why the Paro Sage Legion had remained silent after conquering the Fairy World and defeating the Abyss Demons.
At first, I thought they wanted to explore the fairy world in depth, but I didn't expect there was another factor involved.
However, Link felt no schadenfreude at the thought that even the Sage of Paro was complaining about being poor.
He understands all too well what it feels like to be poor.
"Let me think about it some more."
Link thought for a moment, but still didn't give a direct answer to Sage Celine's question about the scale of Phase Two.
"Um?"
Sage Celine immediately became interested.
With a researcher's instinct, Sage Celine realized that if Link was unwilling to answer such a simple question, he must have another inspiration or plan.
Meeting the sage Serenity's intense questioning gaze, Link did not hide anything and nodded.
"hiss!"
Sage Celine gasped, quite shocked. "What idea do you have now? Tell me, and I'll help you think it over."
"OK."
Link came to see Sage Celine with this in mind.
He took out his personal smart device and projected all the data he had prepared beforehand.
Pointing to the image of ten wizards from the Great Sage's Tower using combined spells to suppress a non-frontline fleet's flagship from the Sage-class legion, rendering it utterly powerless, Link said, "These wizards, five level one and five level two, individually, are no match for this warship. However, when they unite and amplify their combat power through combined spells, they are more than capable of suppressing it."
"So, you want to borrow the combo casting technique and add this effect to your 'construct' as well?"
Upon hearing Link's explanation, Sage Seren immediately guessed what Link was thinking.
"Sister is right, that's exactly what I think."
Link confirmed Sage Celine's guess.
"What are your plans? To start from scratch, or to expand upon the 'Savage Strike' set?"
Sage Celine ignored Link's flattery and asked about serious matters.
"An extension of the 'Savage Strike' set."
As Link spoke, he pulled up the detailed blueprints for the "Savage Strike" set, pointing to the two individual pieces, "Charged Strike" (level 2) and "Powerful Strike" (level 2), and explained,
"First, I plan to replace these two individual pieces and design a new 'Wild Fortress' set that focuses on defense."
Then, a new set of support equipment called "Wild Wilderness" was designed. Its function is to connect three sets of "Wild Strike" and three sets of "Wild Bulwark" to form a small team and achieve a combat power boost similar to combo casting.
Every three small teams can be connected through a set of "Wild Wilderness" to form a larger team.
As for larger teams, we'll talk about that later.
After listening to Link's explanation, Sage Celine thought carefully for a moment and said, "I think it is quite feasible and has good prospects. You should first come up with a specific plan, and then discuss it with Paro to see if the second phase of the 'Construct' project can be launched simultaneously to implement your new idea."
Link operated the AI for a while, bringing up the two 2-ring single pieces of the "Wild Fortress" set, "Steel Bones" and "Diamond Defense," which he had designed overnight during his inspirational burst before going to bed, as well as the special set "Wild Wilderness" for connecting them.
"Whoa!"
Sage Celine feigned surprise and teased, "You're quick!"
Link pretended not to understand the implication and said seriously, "Could you please take a look?"
"I can't handle it."
Sage Celine didn't even glance at it, directly refusing, "The system you created is one that no one understands better than you so far."
"Alright."
Link put away the design blueprints for the three "construct" pieces. "Shall I go find Sage Paro now?"
After thinking for a moment, the wizard Celine stood up and said, "I'll go with you."
If we're going together, then we're going together. Link wouldn't be so tactless as to ask why.
Having pursued the Sage of Paro for so long, Link was genuinely curious whether he had achieved any results.
Or perhaps we should go and find out? (End of Chapter)
