Chapter 77, Chapter 076: The Professor Down on the Streets

Chapter 77, Chapter 076: The Professor Fallen to the Streets (Seeking Recommendations)

"Professor Fox!"

Lynn stared in shock at the old man lying on the ground, his head of messy silver hair and his trench coat covered in stains, lying in the corner like a beggar, with a few pennies given to him by passersby in front of him.

Fox, who was lying down and taking a nap with his eyes closed, heard the sound and opened his eyes in surprise to look at Lynn.

"Belok, what are you doing here?"

Lynn shrugged helplessly.

"It's a long story. I was tricked by a house-elf. He brought me here and insisted that I find something. As soon as I entered this town, my magic disappeared."

Professor Fox sighed and shook his head.

"I'm even more unlucky. My travel plans haven't even started for long before I've arrived here, and my magic has also disappeared. My original plan to use magic to perform a magic show on the street is no longer feasible. I don't know if it's lucky or unlucky that I can meet you here, Belloc."

Lynn frowned slightly, looking at him strangely. She first looked him up and down, and then circled around him.

He suddenly asked.

"How much was the first amount of money you gave me?"

Fox looked at him with a smile, as if he knew what he was going to do, and answered fluently.

"Twenty-five Galleons, and then I took another five hundred Galleons from Gringotts for you."

"What did I serve you when you came to my house?"

"German dark beer, I tricked you into buying it."

Where is your home in the UK?

"608 Queen Street, Lisbon, Northern Ireland. Don't forget to go get the Dark Magic materials; you'll need them."

Seeing that he answered fluently, Lynn finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Professor, don't you always call me Lynn? Why are you suddenly calling me by my last name?"

Fox blinked and said with a smile.

"We've been apart for a while now, and it feels a little strange to see each other again."

Lynn stared at him for a while, then shook her head and said.

"If I didn't know that this place could steal a wizard's magic, and if I didn't know that you could answer any of my questions, I would have almost suspected that you were someone in disguise."

Fox shrugged, seemingly unconcerned that Lynn doubted him.

"It's good to have this kind of vigilance, just like I told you before, don't trust anyone easily."

"But how did you end up like this?" Lynn was still very surprised by Professor Fox's current appearance.

"Even if you can't make a living by performing magic in this small town, what happened to all the money you earned before? Where did it all go?"

Professor Fox got up from the ground, brushed the dust off his clothes, and picked up the coins from the ground.

"I'll tell you the details later. Do you have any money, Lynn? I haven't eaten for over a day. Let's go get something to eat first."

Ten minutes later, inside a fast food restaurant.

Professor Fox was wolfing down his third hamburger.

Lynn held a glass of iced cola and sipped it slowly. He was always very careful when he was alone, but now that Professor Fox, an adult, was with him, he was able to relax a bit.

"So, Professor, how did you end up in this sorry state?"

Professor Fox seemed to have enjoyed his meal. He wiped his mouth with a napkin, let out a long sigh, slumped into his chair, squeezed the entire packet of ketchup into his fries, and ate them one by one.

"When I first arrived here, I did have some Muggle currency, but the sudden disappearance of my magic made me very panicked. After realizing that even if I left here, my magic still wouldn't come back, I didn't dare to do anything on my own and could only ask for help from the outside world."

On my first day here, I went to the Muggle post office and mailed a letter. In order to get the letter to the recipient as soon as possible, I spent all the money I had. A place like this couldn't be unknown in the British magical world. We must have stumbled upon this place by mistake.

"Just wait, we should have news soon."

Lynn nodded; meeting Professor Fox under these circumstances put him at ease.

He glanced aimlessly around the fast food restaurant and saw a lame old man wearing a beret and leaning on a cane walk in.

He didn't pay much attention to it; it was lunchtime and there were still quite a few people in the fast food restaurant.

"Shall we stay here for the time being?"

"Do you have enough money?"

Lynn made a mental calculation.

"If we're frugal, we can live here for at least two weeks. Even if it's not enough, I still have some Galleons, which are all real gold. If all else fails, we can exchange them for pounds."

Professor Fox shook his head and said, "That would be too much of a loss."

"If it really comes to that, there's nothing we can do. We can't just go hungry and live on the streets forever."

The lame old man seemed to be going to the restroom. His legs looked very inconvenient. When he reached Lynn's table, he suddenly slipped, and Lynn reached out to help him catch up.

"Be careful, sir."

Smith said apologetically.

"Thank you, child. I'm sorry to have disturbed your meal with your grandfather."

Lynn and Professor Fox both narrowed their eyes.

Lynn smiled without changing her expression and said, "It's alright. My grandfather always taught me to be helpful. Do you need my help?"

Smith waved his hand.

"It's alright, it's an old problem of mine, so I won't trouble you."

After saying that, he let go of Lynn's hand and limped into the bathroom.

Lynn and Professor Fox exchanged a glance.

"Something's not right with him."

Professor Fox nodded as well.

"His words just now had a probing tone."

"Are we being watched? Has someone in this city recognized us?"

Professor Fox stood up.

"But let's get out of here first."

Lynn also got up and quickly left the fast food restaurant.

When Smith came out of the bathroom at the perfect time, he was shocked to find that the people who had been sitting there were gone.

Sensing something was wrong, he left the fast food restaurant.

Smith didn't go straight back to the church. He took a roundabout route, first going to a familiar convenience store, then sneaking out through the back door of the convenience store. Only after making sure no one was following him did he head towards the church.

Lynn and Professor Fox hid in a corner and stared at the front of the convenience store for a long time, but they only saw the old cripple go in and not see him come out, so they knew they had lost him.

However, this also proves one thing: that old cripple went there specifically to find them!

Lynn rubbed his chin with his fingers, pondering.

"There's very likely that there are more than just the two of us wizards in this city; that cripple is clearly part of another group of wizards."

"They must be involved in the disappearance of magic! At the very least, they should know something!"

Thank you to IceSlagK for the 100 coins and to Alexius I for the 100 coins.
