Chapter 63. Conflict (Seeking Recommendations)

Dumbledore is lying.

The killer could not possibly be the Death Eater named Wilkes who was killed by Professor Fox!

He hid in the Forbidden Forest of Hogwarts to avoid Professor Fawkes' revenge, especially during the time when Fawkes had already become a professor at Hogwarts. Would he possibly do something as harmful and pointless as attacking two students?

In order to clear Professor Fox's name, conceal his motives of revenge, and emphasize that he captured the dark wizard, the young wizards are given the psychological suggestion that he is fighting so desperately to protect them.

Lynn could understand Dumbledore's actions; according to Professor Fox, their relationship was indeed extraordinary.

But why did he say Wilkes was the murderer?

If Hogwarts were to lift the alert now, and then another attack were to occur, how would Dumbledore explain that?

Lynn didn't think he would do something so self-destructive.

Unless the real culprit has already been caught by him.

Or perhaps he knew who the real culprit was, and even if he didn't catch him, he was certain that the culprit wouldn't continue the attack.

Combining Lynn's previous guesses with his own, he suddenly felt an unusual sense of unease.

Hubert had a conflict with him and was attacked by dark magic on the very day he plotted revenge.

Raphael also clashed with him and was attacked on the same day he left the school hospital.

Both attacks targeted individuals who were Lynn's enemies and were prepared to retaliate against him.

Moreover, Dumbledore was not at the castle during either of the attacks.

Adding to this, Dumbledore's current reaction sent a chill down Lynn's spine.

Just then, the system suddenly appeared.

Side Quest: Find the real culprit hidden within Hogwarts.

[Mission Description: You have discovered suspicious points in two attacks. The shrouded in mystery surrounding the attacks and Dumbledore's strange reactions have left you deeply uneasy, so bravely set out to uncover the truth!]

[Task Reward: Unlocks the Talent: Inherited Bloodline.]

[Task duration: 30 days.]

All other information could be ignored, but the task reward information stunned Lynn.

Passing on the bloodline.

What kind of talent is this?

But the young wizards in the hall didn't give him much time to think; they chatted enthusiastically with Lynn, and Lynn could only nod mechanically.

The lifting of the security measures at Hogwarts means that they will continue their classes after breakfast.

Dumbledore announced that due to Professor Fawkes's poor health, Defense Against the Dark Arts would be temporarily taught by Professor McGonagall, who teaches Transfiguration.

Lynn, Ian, and Cedric parted ways in front of the Great Hall. This morning's Charms class would be attended by Slytherin and Ravenclaw together.

"Something's not right with you right now," Ian said.

Lynn rubbed his eyes and sighed.

"You can even tell? There are some things I'm unsure whether to do, and I'm feeling hesitant right now."

Ian remained silent. He was naturally aloof, and he was always quiet when he was with Lynn and the others.

Lynn turned to look at him and suddenly said.

"Can you do me a favor?"

"What busy?"

Lynn didn't speak, but stared at Ian's face for a long time.

Well, although her acting skills are lacking, her expressionless face is a plus.

"This favor is a bit risky. It would actually be better to have Cedric help, but his personality isn't quite right. Everyone in the school knows he's a nice guy."

Ian's lips twitched almost imperceptibly.

So he's a nice guy, and I'm the really bad guy?

Lynn whispered a few words in Ian's ear. Ian looked at him strangely, hesitated for a moment, and then nodded without asking why, indicating that he agreed.

At lunchtime, Lynn spoke to Cedric again, and Cedric stared at Lynn blankly, as if he were looking at a brainless monster.

"That look you're giving me makes me want to give you a good whack with your front teeth," Lynn said unkindly.

Cedric asked, puzzled, "Why did you do that?"

Lynn didn't explain it to him in too much detail, she just said...

"I want to conduct an experiment."

"What kind of experiment requires this?"

"If it succeeds, you'll find out then."

The afternoon Herb Class ended uneventfully, and it seemed that everything at Hogwarts was back on track, except for the change of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.

However, a small accident occurred during dinner.

Lynn and Ian started arguing in public.

"You just sneaked out to play the hero, and you got lucky!" Ian said coldly.

Lynn glanced at him sideways and also made sarcastic remarks.

"I think you're just jealous to the core, so jealous you're practically begging for attention! You see me getting all the attention while nobody pays you any attention, you're desperate for attention!"

Ian was born with a blank expression, showing no emotion whatsoever, yet it perfectly matched his current mood.

"I'm jealous of you? I'm just laughing at some troublemaker who suddenly got lucky and is now smugly oblivious to it."

"Pah! I got lucky? That's because I was brave enough to go out back then. Would you dare? Would you dare?"

Cedric stood between them, exasperated. Although they had been informed of each other's intentions, he couldn't tell if they were arguing seriously or just pretending.

"You guys, calm down, calm down, calm down," was all he could say.

The young wizards at Hogwarts got excited. They were no match for the judges of right and wrong, but they were all experts at watching the spectacle, craning their necks like giraffes to peer around.

Ian's face can be so eccentric it could drive anyone crazy.

"I'm perfectly calm right now, it's just that some people's eyes have turned into the back of their heads, and their nostrils into eyes!"

"Oh? I look down on people? I don't look down on people, but on a jerk who's jealous but doesn't dare admit it."

Ian's expression didn't change much, but those around him could clearly sense that his face had darkened.

"You've gone too far, Lynn Bellock." His voice wasn't loud, but anyone could sense the coldness in his tone.

Lynn scoffed, "What can you do to me?"

Ian seemed to be completely enraged by his words. To everyone's surprise, he raised his wand and pointed it at Lynn.

"You're just getting a temporary boost, Lynn! To everyone else, you're just a lucky mudblood! I'll show you right now! You'll be roasted alive!"

Lynn seemed completely unprepared for Ian's sudden curse, and caught off guard, he was hit, his body covered in dense bumps.

Enraged, he raised his wand and began exchanging spells with Ian right there in the Great Hall!

The young wizards scattered and gathered around the Great Hall, excitedly watching the spectacle, until Professor McGonagall charged in like an angry lioness!

"You, you are utterly audacious! Ravenclaw and Slytherin lose 20 points! Belloc's confinement is extended to the end of the term! Campbell will do two months' worth of chores with Professor Sprout!"
