Chapter 43. The Divine Blade Without a Shadow
Chapter 43. The Divine Blade Without a Shadow
Lynn felt that her hamster seemed to have gained a lot of weight overnight.
He stared at Umaru for the entire morning, finally confirming that he wasn't mistaken; Umaru was indeed as chubby as a ball now.
Lynn checked all his snacks with a strange expression, but found nothing missing. He had no choice but to interrogate the culprit.
"Tell me! Did you run off to steal food from someone else's house last night?"
Little Ball was lying in its little nest, whimpering and groaning. It was trying to digest the food in its belly and didn't hear what Lynn was saying at all.
Lynn poked its round belly with her finger, which made it roll over unhappily and continue lying in a different position.
Having gotten no results from his questions, and not expecting to get anything out of a hamster, Lynn changed into a thick robe and left the Slytherin common room.
It snowed lightly on Christmas Day. There were only a few little wizards at school, and the snowflakes falling on the dusty castle created a serene and beautiful scene.
Lynn, having nothing better to do, decided to take a walk around Hogwarts. As he passed Hagrid's hut on the edge of the Forbidden Forest, he heard a familiar voice.
"Remember to put plenty of dry hay in its den. You're near the forbidden forest, so it gets colder at night, which is one of the reasons it got sick."
Professor Fox came out of Hagrid's little house, and Hagrid followed behind him.
"Thank you, Fox. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have discovered that Toothpaste was sick. He's my best friend, but I've neglected him..."
Hagrid's voice sounded like he was blaming himself, and Professor Fox patted his arm to comfort him.
"It's not your fault, Hagrid. Animals are different from humans. You've already done more than enough for it."
"I'm really not available this time. Let's wait another week, Fox, and then we can go into the Forbidden Forest together to see if we can find any red hats."
Professor Fox put on his top hat and straightened the collar of his trench coat.
"Thank you, Hagrid. See you next time."
Hagrid saw him out of his little yard: "See you next time."
Lynn made no attempt to hide himself, and Professor Fox spotted him as soon as he came out.
"Merry Christmas, Lynn, what are you doing here?"
"Merry Christmas, Professor. I just came out for a stroll because I was bored."
They walked back to the castle together.
"I didn't mean to eavesdrop on your conversation, but what's a red hat?" Lynn asked.
"Red Hat is a type of elf, an evil creature. They love blood and can appear wherever there is bloodshed. Red Hat hunts human blood and soaks its cap in blood to maintain its vibrant color. This is all third-grade material; you'll learn about it later."
Professor Fox explained, "I needed one of these creatures as an example when I was teaching third-year students, but they are usually only found in Northern Europe and are rarely seen in Britain. However, there might be one or two hiding in the Forbidden Forest of Hogwarts, so I came to Hagrid for help and asked him to come with me to look for them in the Forbidden Forest."
At this point, he solemnly instructed Lynn.
"The Forbidden Forest is the most dangerous place at Hogwarts. Even I have to call Hagrid if I want to go in. You must never sneak into the Forbidden Forest alone again."
Lynn never even considered sneaking into the Forbidden Forest. He would have to be out of his mind to do that. Even though the main characters would treat the Forbidden Forest like their own backyard and come and go as they pleased, Lynn didn't have the guts. He didn't consider himself to have any protagonist's halo.
"By the way, Professor, I've finished reading 'Cutting-Edge Black Magic: An Exploration.' What else do I need to study?"
Even if Lynn hadn't run into Professor Fox here, he would have gone to see him that afternoon; his study of dark magic was about to enter a new phase.
"You're progressing way too fast," Professor Fox remarked.
"I've never seen such talent before, starting formal training in the highest levels of dark magic at the age of eleven. However, it just so happens that I was well-prepared in advance."
He led Lynn to an empty Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, drew his wand, and pointed it at a demonstration stake.
"Actually, I've always struggled with the question of which cutting-edge black magic to teach you. In the end, an old rival of mine helped me solve the problem, and I paid a considerable price for it. But compared to this spell, what I paid was nothing."
As he spoke, he chanted a spell over the wooden stake.
"The Divine Blade is Without a Shadow!"
An invisible blade sliced through the air, instantly slicing through the wooden stake!
"Thump."
A dull thud sounded as the wooden stake was sliced in two horizontally, the cut being extremely smooth, as if it had been waxed.
"This dark magic was invented by your headmaster, Professor Snape, when he was a fifth-year student at Hogwarts. He was a genius, with exceptional talent in potions and dark magic. However, I had some conflicts with him, so it was really not easy for him to teach this spell."
Lynn's expression was quite strange. Of course he recognized the spell "Divine Strike Without Shadow." It was a proud creation of his "wifeless face" during his chuunibyou (adolescent delusions of grandeur) period, and he had even recorded it in his potions book. Along with it were other self-created dark spells, such as "Inverted Bell."
Lynn had originally planned to look in the potions classrooms of the older students when she had the chance, as there was a high probability that she could find it there.
But to his surprise, Professor Fox had already traded the curse to him from Snape.
Lynn was somewhat moved.
From Hubert's incident, he realized that there was more to the story than met the eye between Professor Fox and Snape; otherwise, Snape wouldn't have taken such a chance to kick someone when they were down.
Therefore, Professor Fox must have paid a heavy price to trade for the Divine Edge from him, and now he is teaching this spell to him for free.
Yes, Professor Fox did not include teaching dark magic in his investment in Lynn. Compared to the five hundred Galleons, the teaching and guidance of magic was undoubtedly more valuable.
In other words, Professor Fox was Lynn's guide on the path of magic.
I am deeply grateful and cannot express my thanks.
Professor Fox's teaching was well-intentioned, and after graduation, he would keep his promise and help the professor with his research on black magic.
Even now, he still doesn't know exactly which aspect of dark magic Professor Fox is researching.
After starting to learn real, advanced black magic, Lynn's learning speed slowed down significantly.
The specific reason wasn't that he encountered difficulties while learning magic, but rather that he currently had too little magic power.
It was too little to support him in using a complete Divine Sharpness Without Shadow.
