Chapter 399, Section 396: Old Stories

"What are you doing?"

Suppressing his pain, Lupin looked at the chaotic scene in the cellar and asked incredulously.

The actors arrived at just the right time, and Lynn snapped his fingers in satisfaction, also taking a picture of Lupin's dumbfounded expression.

"Very good, Professor. You've come at the perfect time. We've just caught Black, and Harry is currently listening to his explanation of what happened back then. Would you like to join us?"

Lupin did not answer him.

At this moment, he could no longer suppress his desire to transform. He knelt on the ground in pain, constantly exhaling white breath, and astonishing changes manifested on his body.

Ron and Harry were stunned by what they saw as their beloved Professor Lupin transformed from a human into a werewolf in just a few seconds!

However, no wolf howls were heard.

Lupin, now a werewolf, still retained his consciousness; he had drunk the wolfsbane potion Snape had prepared for him before coming here.

"What happened?"

His voice was hoarse and deep, completely different from the gentle tone he used when he was human.

Before he could answer, Ron cried out in surprise.

"Werewolf! You're a werewolf!"

"Calm down, Ron. It's not surprising that Professor Lupin is a werewolf. If you pay a little attention, you'll notice that his behavior is different from normal people. Besides, Professor Snape has already given you hints."

Lynn said that, but Ron and Harry still couldn't calm down their shock.

Hermione, however, had already noticed Lupin's odd behavior when Snape assigned the homework about werewolves, so she wasn't surprised at this point.

Lupin didn't care that his identity had been discovered, because he was shocked by Harry and Black's condition.

"You've captured Sirius!"

"Remus, perhaps you've come at the right time. Listen to me, Harry, stop right there, and you, Remus, can't you at least let me finish what I have to say?"

Sirius Black, now with a bruised and swollen face, was panting heavily as he tried to explain to Lupin and Harry.

Hearing Sirius and Lupin address each other, Harry stared blankly at the two of them.

"Do you know each other?"

Lupin the werewolf did not deny it; he stepped out with his large paws and walked over to Harry and Black.

"We used to be inseparable best friends, not only us, but also your father."

Harry looked at Lupin's werewolf face, and in an instant, his mind connected him with a code name.

"Moon face! You're that moon face!"

Lupin looked at him in surprise.

"How did you know that code name?"

"These codenames are recorded on the Marauder's Map. Did you create them?"

Lupin and Blake, who was lying on the ground, then revealed an expression of understanding.

"That map was a masterpiece from our student days, but it was probably taken by Filch later, and I don't know how it ended up in your hands."

Harry didn't explain why the Marauder's Map ended up in his hands; instead, he glared angrily at Lupin.

"So, Professor! You were with Black too? You helped him infiltrate Hogwarts! You helped him escape from Azkaban?"

"No, Harry, don't get so worked up. I also hate Black's betrayal, and I don't know why you've captured him here, but would you like to hear the whole story? I mean, would you like to know about some things from our student days?"

Lupin looked at Blake with his wolf-like eyes and said painfully.

Black, also panting, said, "Yes, Harry, you have to listen to the end, let Remus finish telling you, and then I'll tell you what happens next. The truth is a little different from what you know, no, it's different from what most people know."

Harry looked around, somewhat at a loss. After beating Black up, his anger subsided considerably, and reason regained its footing. Hearing Lupin and Black's words, he was momentarily at a loss for what to do.

He looked at Lynn with a pleading look in his eyes.

Lynn had already put her camera away; she had already filmed the most exciting parts, and there was nothing left to film.

Seeing the look Harry was giving him, Lynn shrugged at him.

"Don't worry, with me here, no one can escape. So why don't you use this time to listen to me?"

After receiving Lynn's assurance, Harry finally got off Black and agreed to listen to Lupin recount his past.

It's a very cliché story about friendship.

Basically, Lupin was bitten by a werewolf when he was young and became a werewolf himself, so he was shunned by everyone. However, Dumbledore was willing to let him attend Hogwarts.

He always tried his best to hide his identity at school, and every time he transformed during a full moon, he would go to the Scream Shack to endure the pain alone. From then on, Hogsmeade became known as the haunted house.

But later, his friends, including Harry's father, Black, and Peter, eventually discovered Lupin's secret.

However, they were not afraid and distanced themselves from Lupin because of this. Instead, they all learned the advanced Animagus shapeshifting technique in their fifth year, so that they could transform into animals on the night of the full moon to accompany Lupin, who had become a werewolf. After all, werewolves only hurt humans and were not interested in animals.

Using their animal forms, they traversed the entire Hogwarts and Hogsmeade at night, discovering many hidden passages, which is why they were able to create the Marauder's Map.

"We used to be such good friends, but I never imagined that Black would betray James in the end," Lupin said sadly.

"I dare not tell Dumbledore that Black is actually an Animagus. I feel guilty and that I have betrayed Dumbledore's trust."

When none of the other principals would accept me, he did, and he had no idea that I had broken the rules that he had made for my safety and the safety of others.

He never knew that I had led three classmates to illegally learn Animagi. Every time we sat down to plan our adventures for the following month, I tried to forget this guilt, and I haven't changed...

Lupin's voice became self-loathing.

"Throughout the year, I've been struggling with whether or not to tell Dumbledore that Sirius Black is an Animagus."

But I didn't say it because I was too cowardly.

Telling him would mean that I had betrayed his trust during my student days, and that I had led others to be with me, and for me, Dumbledore's trust was extremely important.

When I was a child, he accepted me into school. When I became an adult, I faced many setbacks because I was a werewolf and couldn't find a paid job, but he gave me one.

So I convinced myself that Sirius Black had infiltrated the school using the evil magic he learned from Voldemort, and that his becoming an Animagus had nothing to do with it. Therefore, in a sense, you are right about me, Harry; I was indeed Black's accomplice.

Lupin's wolf head drooped, and just as he finished speaking, Blake let out a howl.

"Enough! You don't need to feel guilty, Remus! You never aided and abetted evil, and I'm not what you think I am. I believe that James and the others' deaths were related to me; I harmed them, but I absolutely did not betray them! I wasn't the one who submitted to Voldemort!"
