Chapter 394, Section 391: Roaring Letter and Fire Arrow

On Christmas Day, Harry and Ron got up early in their dormitory.

By this time, their bedsides were piled high with gifts. Harry and the others didn't even want to wash up first, and couldn't wait to start unpacking the gift boxes by their bedsides.

"Mom gave me another hooded leather jacket, and it's chestnut brown again. See if you got one too."

Harry also received a scarlet hooded leather coat from Mrs. Weasley, with a Gryffindor lion woven into the front, along with twelve homemade mince pies, some Christmas pastries, and a box of crunchy peanut butter chips.

"Oh no!" Ron suddenly exclaimed.

He found another envelope in the package Mrs. Weasley had sent him.

The envelope looked familiar to both Harry and Ron; Mrs. Weasley had sent it to Ron after they were discovered arriving at school in Mr. Weasley's flying car in their second year.

Roaring letter.

"It's over, it's over," Ron said, his face pale and his lips trembling. "Mom must be angry that we didn't tell her in advance that we weren't coming home for Christmas."

Harry also kept a safe distance from the roaring letter in Ron's hand, out of fear.

"I think it's more than that. She must know about the attack on you at Hogwarts by now. Even if George, Fred, Percy, and Ginny didn't tell her, she must have seen yesterday's newspaper."

Although both were terrified, neither of them intended to throw away the roaring letter, because doing so would lead to something even more terrible.

Ron and Harry had no choice but to stop opening the gifts and start by opening the letter that was yelling.

Fortunately, now only the two of them are left in the entire Gryffindor boys' dormitory, so no one will laugh at them.

Ron tore open the envelope, and the letter immediately opened its mouth wide, screaming as if it were a sonic attack.

"I can't believe you had such audacity! Why didn't you tell us immediately when something happened at school! Your father and I were nearly driven mad when we heard about it! If it weren't for your Aunt Maggie coming to visit us this holiday season, your father wouldn't even be celebrating Christmas; he'd be going to Hogwarts to pick you up! You signed the form with Harry not coming home for the holidays without our permission! I expect you'll have a proper explanation for us when you get home in six months!!!"

Harry and Ron tried desperately to cover their ears, but the shrill sound, so sharp it seemed capable of shattering glass, couldn't be masked and intensely assaulted their eardrums.

The screams stopped, and both of them were deathly pale. It took them a long time to come to their senses.

"You have to explain to Mom when I go home for summer vacation that we have a reason for not being able to go back," Ron muttered. "Otherwise, she'll kill me. Even if I don't die, I'll be ashamed to face her for the entire summer."

Harry reassured him, "Don't worry, not going back for Christmas is also part of my idea. I'll stand with you through this. If Mrs. Weasley wants to punish you, I'll take the punishment with you."

After agreeing to face the punishment together, the two good brothers put the matter out of their minds.

Even if they were to be punished, it wouldn't be until summer vacation. By then, Mrs. Weasley's anger might have subsided, and everyone could pretend that nothing had happened.

Today is Christmas, after all, a day meant to be filled with joy, and Harry continued unpacking the gift boxes in front of him.

He moved everything aside and saw a very conspicuous, long and thin package underneath.

"What's that?" Ron asked, looking at a pair of maroon socks he had just opened the packaging.

"have no idea……"

Harry tore open the package, and a beautiful, sparkling flying broom rolled onto his bed, making him stare in astonishment.

Ron dropped the sock, jumped off the bed, and stared at it in disbelief.

"I can't believe it." His voice even became a little hoarse.

Those were fire bolts, exactly the same as the one Harry had been so fascinated by and dreamed of in Diagon Alley.

Harry picked it up; it sparkled.

He could feel it trembling, so he let go. It hung in mid-air, without any support, at the perfect height for him to ride on.

His eyes followed the golden serial number at the very top of the flying broom all the way down to the perfectly smooth, streamlined tip of the broom.

"Who gave it to you?" Ron asked quietly.

"There are no cards, just this broom in the package," Harry said.

The two had a heated discussion about who would give Harry such an expensive gift.

They suspected Dumbledore and Lupin, but both believed it was impossible.

Just then, Hermione walked into their dormitory.

"What are you laughing at?"

She was wearing a morning robe and had Crookshan with her. Crookshan looked very docile and had a pretty ribbon tied around his neck.

As soon as Ron saw her come in, he covered his pocket in terror.

"Don't let your cat in! Banban has already suffered enough from it, and I don't want this new mouse Lynn gave me to suffer the same pain."

"But it's not interested in your new mouse. You see, even your old mouse isn't afraid of it."

Hermione was right. The mouse disguised as Scabbers wasn't afraid of Crookshanks at all. It poked its head out of Ron's pocket, curiously trying to grab the ribbon around the big yellow cat's neck, but Crookshanks didn't even glance at it.

At that moment, Hermione also noticed the flying broomstick in front of Harry and asked in surprise.

"Who gave it to you?"

"I don't know," Harry said. "The gift didn't come with a card or anything."

To Harry's great surprise, she showed neither excitement nor curiosity upon hearing this.

Instead, Hermione's face fell, and she bit her lip.

"What's wrong with you?" Ron asked.

"I don't know," Hermione said slowly, "but there's something strange about this. I mean, it should be a pretty good broom, shouldn't it?"

Ron sighed angrily.

"This is the best flying broomstick, Hermione," he said.

"It must be very expensive..."

"It's likely to cost more than all of Slytherin's flying brooms combined," Ron said happily.

"Hmm, who would give Harry something so valuable without telling him?" Hermione asked.

"Who cares about that?" Ron said impatiently. "Harry, can I ride it? Is that okay?"

"I don't think anyone should ride it right now!" Hermione shrieked.

Harry and Ron were both looking at her.

"What else are you going to do with it if not ride it? You want Ha to use it to sweep the floor?" Ron said.

"What if this were the broom that Sirius Black gave to Harry!"
