Chapter 289, Section 286: The Danger Never Disappeared

News of Dumbledore's removal from his position as headmaster reached Hogwarts.

This put everyone in the castle on edge, from students to professors. The students only calmed down when Dumbledore returned from outside and announced in the Great Hall that Professor McGonagall would serve as the interim headmaster and that he would not leave Hogwarts but would remain in the headmaster's office.

The students at Hogwarts know best that as long as Dumbledore is there, they are safe.

On the afternoon that Dumbledore returned to the castle, Lynn arrived at the entrance to the Headmaster's office.

The stone monster guarding the gate was already very familiar with Lynn, so no password was needed to enter. However, just as Lynn was about to go in, the stone monster suddenly spoke up to remind him.

"Vice Principal McGonagall is inside talking to Dumbledore."

Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall were definitely talking about handing over matters concerning the headmaster, so Lynn didn't rush in but waited for Professor McGonagall to come out at the entrance.

With nothing else to do, Lynn chatted with the stone monster.

"Are you a magical creature?" He was very curious about the life structure of the stone monster.

The stone monster seemed quite interested in chatting with him: "You can think of me as a creature of the same nature as the Sorting Hat guy, more like a man-made alchemical creature than an animal."

"So you existed from the very beginning of Hogwarts' founding?"

"Of course, who else besides those four great wizards could create a life form like mine?"

Lynn and the Stone Monster didn't talk for long before Professor McGonagall came out of the principal's office.

She had a furrowed brow, looked preoccupied, and wasn't in a good mood.

Lynn greeted her first: "Professor McGonagall."

Professor McGonagall looked up at him. "Professor Lockhart, Albus just asked me to bring you to see him. I didn't expect you to be here already."

Lynn raised an eyebrow: "Professor Dumbledore has already stepped down as headmaster?"

Professor McGonagall looked very troubled. Although she was happy to help Dumbledore manage Hogwarts, she didn't want it to be done this way.

"The board of directors held a meeting and voted to force Albus to resign from his position, and Albus agreed, so now I have to serve as the interim principal."

Professor McGonagall didn't talk to Lynn for long. She was always busy and even busier now. After saying goodbye to Lynn in a hurry, she left.

After Professor McGonagall left, Lynn went into the principal's office.

Dumbledore now sat comfortably in his chair, holding a storybook in his hands. From Lynn's angle as he entered, he could just see the cover of the book, "The Tales of Peter the Bard."

"You're so old, why do you still like reading these children's storybooks?" Lynn sat down opposite Dumbledore and complained.

Dumbledore closed the storybook: "What people like has nothing to do with age. This book is one of my favorites, both when I was young and now that I am old."

"What's going on with the school board?" Lynn asked directly.

"Clearly, someone doesn't want me to stay at Hogwarts." Dumbledore seemed to be in a rather good mood. "They seem very anxious, as if they've discovered something, otherwise they wouldn't be in such a hurry."

"Why were you removed from your position as principal?" Lynn asked, puzzled.

"Because the title of headmaster is not important; anyone can be the headmaster. The key is that I have to stay at Hogwarts, and removing the headmaster and the others is a normal procedure, so of course I should accept it."

"But you're still at Hogwarts."

"That's right, they can't change that, and there's no way they can change it," Dumbledore said with a smile. "What they've lost is just the title of headmaster, but they've gained a lot. At least we now clearly know who our enemy is."

Lynn guessed who he had discovered, and while rubbing his chin, Lynn casually recounted the situation he had been monitoring over the past few days.

"I haven't found any contact between the target I'm monitoring and the school's caretaker elves. She's been behaving perfectly normally lately, but what happened today shows that they really can't wait any longer. In other words, they'll keep looking for ways to help."

Lynn suddenly looked up at Dumbledore.

"I have a plan to teach."

Dumbledore looked at him with his blue eyes, which seemed to be smiling: "I can probably guess your plan."

"So, do you think it's feasible?"

"Why not? Since they've already pushed us to this point, I think we should definitely give it a try."

Lynn shrugged: "You trust me that much?"

Dumbledore laughed. "The one thing we have in abundance is trust, isn't it?"

Dumbledore's resignation as headmaster seemed to have no impact on Hogwarts. After all, Dumbledore had not truly left Hogwarts, nor had he even moved out of his headmaster's office. Apart from the fact that he was no longer the headmaster in name only, nothing else seemed to have changed.

It wasn't until one afternoon three weeks later that Professor McGonagall summoned the four heads of the school, along with Lynn, who was the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, to her office.

Professor McGonagall sat in the armchair in front of her desk, her expression as serious as ever.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Albus left Hogwarts this morning."

Professor Flitwick was somewhat puzzled: "Isn't it common for Dumbledore to be absent from Hogwarts? Why have we been summoned here?"

He raised the same question that other professors had.

“This time is different from usual.” Professor McGonagall shook her head. “As you know, the Board of Governors removed him from his position as headmaster not long ago. Albus told me that it was actually a conspiracy, that someone wanted to get rid of him from Hogwarts.”

Snape frowned, his face still grim.

"Since Dumbledore knew it was a conspiracy, why did he still leave Hogwarts?"

Professor McGonagall said gravely.

"Because he is not only the headmaster of Hogwarts, but also the president of the International Confederation of Wizards. He needs to mediate the disputes between the Magical Congress of the United States and some Ministries of Magic in the Middle East. Before leaving, Albus reminded me to do a good job in the defense of Hogwarts. He didn't want any trouble to happen in the castle during this time."

"Where does the danger come from?" Professor Sprout asked.

At this point, Lynn interjected, "Perhaps I can tell you all about that."

The professors all turned their attention to him.

"Gentlemen, do not forget that although it has been more than three months since then, the danger of the Chamber of Secrets being opened in Slytherin has never disappeared."
