Chapter 287, Section 284: Dismissal of the Principal
Yorkshire, beside a rural farmland.
Here stands an elegant two-story villa, standing out prominently amidst a vast expanse of lush green fields.
But it seemed that no one around, whether it was the children playing in the nearby village or the farmers working in the fields, could see this out-of-place house.
Malfoy stood on the balcony of the small building, silently staring at the woman beside him, looking completely bewildered.
"If I have a motive or purpose for doing this, then Mrs. Roll, what is your purpose?"
Mrs. Rohrer, still wearing a black veil and a heavy, ornate dress, heard Malfoy's question, and the expression hidden beneath the veil seemed to be a slight chuckle.
"There's no ulterior motive, just like Mr. Malfoy, you did this simply because you didn't like him, didn't you?"
Malfoy frowned deeply as he listened to her words.
Their goals were aligned, but Malfoy never wanted to be used as a pawn by anyone.
"There are many reasons why I don't like him, but what are your reasons?"
Mrs. Rowe seemed unwilling to answer Malfoy's question at all, so she changed the subject and asked a different question.
"How likely are you to succeed in dealing with someone like Dumbledore using methods similar to politics?"
"It's a sure thing," Malfoy said. "Dumbledore is strong, that's common knowledge among all wizards, but his reputation isn't just because of his strength. More importantly, it's because he follows the rules. Even if he encounters something he doesn't like, he can accept it as long as it's within the rules, and we're doing just that now."
"To possess power yet be willing to be bound by mortal rules—what a great wizard indeed," Mrs. Roll said, seemingly in admiration, but Malfoy heard a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
Just then, the clock hanging on the wall suddenly started to chime.
Malfoy checked the time, then turned and left the balcony.
"They're coming; we'd better go now."
The living room of the mansion was furnished exactly the same as when the sixteen families held meetings at the Malfoys' house, except that there were only twelve chairs around the long table.
As Malfoy and Mrs. Rohr entered the room, the fireplace in the drawing room flickered, and figures emerged from the flames.
They were all members of the Hogwarts Board of Trustees and had come specifically to attend this meeting.
The pre-meeting pleasantries lasted for about half an hour. Once all the board members had arrived, a fiery red light flashed in the middle of the meeting room, and Dumbledore arrived as well.
He looked at the twelve board members seated at the table and couldn't help but smile.
"Good afternoon, everyone. It seems I'm the last one to arrive."
The reception room had only twelve chairs, all of which were occupied by the school board members. It was clear that the person presiding over the meeting had not prepared a chair specifically for Dumbledore.
Some of the school board members frowned, while others stood up in dissatisfaction.
"How did you arrange things, Malfoy? Why is there one less chair here? Professor Dumbledore, you can sit here."
Dumbledore seemed completely unconcerned, waving his hand and saying, "It's alright, Yaxley. Since Mr. Malfoy didn't provide me with a chair, I can bring my own."
He gently tapped a small square table beside him with his wand, and the table transformed and reshaped like clay, eventually becoming the same chairs that the school board members were sitting in.
"What a magnificent transformation!" Malfoy exclaimed, clapping his hands in admiration. "I am so sorry, Professor Dumbledore, I forgot about you while I was preparing, so I apologize for the missing chair."
His apology sounded very sincere, but everyone present could hear the insincerity in his words.
Dumbledore remained completely unperturbed, like a clay Buddha, and continued to speak with a smile.
"Everyone makes mistakes, Mr. Malfoy. You don't have to apologize for it."
Despite this minor incident before the meeting began, the atmosphere appeared to be very harmonious on the surface.
Malfoy still chaired the meeting.
"Distinguished members of the Hogwarts Board of Governors, we are gathered here today primarily to welcome our newest member, Mrs. Diana Rolle. Former Hogwarts Board of Governors Mrs. Selwyn has transferred her seat to her, and we extend our warmest welcome to her."
Mrs. Rowe nodded slightly to the board members on either side of the long table, and a soft round of applause rang out. Clearly, not all the board members were in favor of the change of leadership.
Malfoy was not surprised by this situation. Although they were all pure-blood families, not all of these school board members were of one mind.
Dumbledore was also clapping softly, his gaze fixed on Mrs. Rolle, as if he had seen something interesting.
Mrs. Roll also noticed Dumbledore's gaze. She turned to look at Dumbledore, their golden and blue eyes meeting. Neither of them seemed to have any ill intentions, and they both bowed slightly in greeting.
"Hogwarts is doing very well now. With the generous funding from us, the school board members, every young wizard on the island of Great Britain feels at home in that castle. I believe that with Mrs. Rollo joining us, this ancient magic school will only get better and better."
Malfoy showered the assembled board members with praise, but made no mention of Dumbledore, as if Dumbledore had not been present at the meeting at all.
But some members of the school board were getting impatient.
"Malfoy, just say what you have to say. I think everyone here today is here for more than just to welcome Mrs. Rolfe," Flint said, displeased.
Malfoy didn't keep them in suspense any longer and continued.
"Of course, while the future of Hogwarts is bright, there are still some unsuitable aspects to the school. After Christmas, I heard many wizarding families with children attending Hogwarts complaining to me that Hogwarts did not seem so safe this year. An attack occurred at the school during Halloween. The legendary Chamber of Secrets built by Slytherin was opened, and a student was attacked and almost died as a result."
"And Dumbledore, you didn't report any of this to us or the Ministry of Magic, nor did you take any effective measures, and you didn't even catch the real culprit. Therefore, I believe that you, as the Headmaster of Hogwarts, have seriously neglected your duties!"
Malfoy's last words were delivered with conviction, and the others present finally understood what he wanted to do.
"I propose that Dumbledore be removed from his position as Headmaster of Hogwarts."
This part of the story is nearing its end, and all the mysteries are expected to be revealed within ten days.
