My Hogwarts has a serious problem.
Chapter 200, 198. Why should I bear such pain?
Chapter 201, Section 198: Why should I bear this pain? (Long Chapter)
"My parents left me a mountain of gold?" Lynn asked in surprise.
Yelena shook her head, picked up her robe from the hanger, and beckoned to Lynn.
"Let me take you to see it."
Yelena's secretary and personal driver brought her and Lynn to the entrance of Gringotts in Switzerland.
Like all Gringotts buildings around the world, they are all tall, white structures. The Swiss fairies look much the same as the British ones, and their attitude towards wizards is neither particularly hostile nor friendly.
As soon as Yelena led Lynn into Gringotts' main hall, a goblin dressed in a scarlet and gold-trimmed uniform walked towards them.
"Ah, Ms. Shayk, it has been many years since I last saw you."
"Yes, Harvey, the last time I was here was eight years ago."
"Last time you came, you went to Vault 63 and delivered a contract, didn't you? What brings you here this time?"
Yelena pulled Lynn in front of her: "Handle the transfer of the vaults, and transfer the Lungard family vault and Vault No. 63, which were transferred to my name thirteen years ago, to Lynn Bellock."
The goblin raised its eyes and leaned close to Lynn, scrutinizing him for a moment. Lynn did not avoid its gaze and accepted its examination with equanimity.
"He looks just like old Lundgard," he muttered under his breath.
"Moving the vault is such a troublesome task, so would you like to take him to see the vault before the handover?"
"Of course, he should at least know what he owns," Yelena said matter-of-factly.
The fairy Harvey held out a hand to Yelena: "Did you bring your keys?"
Yelena took a small gold key out of her pocket and placed it in Harvey's hand.
He carefully examined it with a magnifying glass, then took the keys and led the way.
"Come with me."
Harvey led Yelena and Lynn to a large white door on the right side of the hall. He pushed the door open, revealing a passageway that resembled a mine shaft, with tracks laid on the ground and rough stone walls all around. It looked vastly different from the clean and tidy Gringotts Hall.
"So all these years, Gringotts hasn't changed the means of transportation to the vault?" Yelena frowned as she watched the small car automatically approach them along the tracks.
"Because we haven't found a safer alternative."
"I heard that Gringotts in the United States has started using standardized door keys for fixed-point transfers of vaults. Why haven't you adopted this yet?"
Harvey said angrily, "Don't mention those Americans. The standard door key is just a self-deceiving trick. Sooner or later they'll cause big problems and ruin Gringotts' reputation."
"I think this is much more convenient. Once the Gringotts branch in Lan is established, I will ask them to do it this way."
"Hmph, you're the Minister of Magic, of course Gringotts in your country has to listen to you."
Lynn listened silently to the conversation between Yelena and Harvey. Their conversation was quite interesting, and he now realized that not all fairies were of one mind.
The three of them got into the car. The car was quite spacious, especially considering that Harvey and Lynn were not very big.
The little car started moving again on its own, as if it knew the way without needing anyone's guidance, carrying them at a very high speed along the winding track.
The underground tracks are designed to be extremely complex, with a fork in the road almost every ten meters.
The howling wind blew all of Lynn's hair back, and he squinted as he saw a bright light suddenly appear deep in the mine.
Suddenly, he noticed a pair of golden eyes staring at him.
Those eyes were large, and their owner resembled a creature Lynn knew very well.
dragon!
The dragon saw Lynn and suddenly became enraged. Bright flames instantly illuminated the entire mine, and at the same time, a deafening dragon roar rang in their ears.
"roar!!!"
Harvey's face immediately turned ugly, and he cursed, "What's going on with those dragon tamers?"
Fortunately, the car was protected by magic, and the dragon's anomaly did not affect them much. However, this serious incident still made Harvey keep cursing at the dragon tamers.
Yelena looked at Lynn suspiciously, and then, taking advantage of the whisper in the wind, she quietly leaned close to Lynn's ear: "I have a feeling this has something to do with you."
Lynn shrugged: "Maybe. After I sent you back to Lan, Ivanov rode over on a dragon. I blew its head off. Maybe the dragon smelled the blood of its kind on me."
Yelena stared silently at Lynn, feeling a sense of incongruity as he casually recounted slaying a dragon with his childlike face.
The car drove for a long time in the mine, and finally stopped in front of a small door. Harvey was the first to jump out of the car.
"They must have their bonuses docked, a bunch of good-for-nothings," he muttered to himself.
Lynn and Yelena also got out of the car.
"This is the Lungard family vault, mainly containing assets from your mother's family," Yelena said.
Harvey then took out the key and opened the small door. They went inside, and the space inside was very large, but it was filled with gold coins, gems and jewels, which made their faces look golden.
Lynn squinted at the mountain of gold, touched his pocket, and silently took out a pair of sunglasses and put them on.
"I understand what you mean by 'it will never run out of money'."
"No." Yelena shook her head. "You don't understand. This is just the family vault. The truly important vaults in Gringotts are all numbered."
Lynn, numb from being corrupted by money, stared blankly at her.
"You mean the things in Vault 63 are the truly important ones?"
"That vault was left by your father. I don't know much about your father's family, except that your father's ancestors and his brothers divided the family property into two categories: wealth and knowledge. Your father's branch inherited the wealth."
Lynn knew what kind of people his ancestors had been, and he strongly suspected that the person who took the knowledge was Gellert Grindelwald.
But the mountain of gold in this vault is already incredibly impressive; you can't even find a trace of Silver Sikor and Bronze Nat here.
"Approximately how many Galleons are there in total?" Lynn asked Harvey.
"This vault is a regular vault, and new Galleons are deposited into it every year. The last time we took the data was in December last year. Including those jewels, the items here are worth approximately 12 Galleons."
Six million doesn't sound like a large number, but you have to consider the purchasing power of Galleons.
In the magical world, wizards commonly use flying broomsticks as their mode of transportation. Their cost and craftsmanship are quite sophisticated, similar to cars in the Muggle world. Each year, various magical broomstick companies release new models, much like new supercars in the Muggle world. Even the newest and best flying broomstick, equivalent to a multi-million dollar sports car, only costs a few thousand Galleons.
Meanwhile, Ron's father, Arthur Weasley, an employee of the Ministry of Magic and a government official, only earned a few dozen Galleons a month.
More than six million, all in cash, is an enormous sum of money in the magical world.
Lynn astutely grasped the key point Harvey had made: "You just said that new Galleons are deposited here every year?"
"Yes, every year. That old man deposits hundreds of thousands of Galleons into it every year. When I came last year, I suggested that he open a new vault, but he preferred that we use the Unseen Expansion Charm on this vault rather than open a new one. He's such a stingy old man."
"You'll find out where this money came from when we get to the next vault," Yelena said without explaining to Lynn, instead gesturing for Harvey to lead them to another vault, number 63.
This time, Harvey led them deeper underground, and Lynn looked around and wondered if these fairies had already hollowed out the underground of Bern.
They came to a small door that looked similar to the one before. The door seemed inconspicuous, but a closer look would reveal that there was no keyhole.
"Step back," Harvey said sternly.
Yelena pulled Lynn's arm and took a step back. Lynn looked up at her, then pursed his lips and looked at her paws, without saying a word.
Harvey stretched out his long fingers and gently pushed the door open.
"So what kind of security measures are in place here?" Lynn asked.
Yelena explained to him in a low voice, "It's the door itself. If a fairy's hand doesn't touch the door, she'll be sucked in."
"It doesn't sound very safe." In other words, this door only keeps out wizards, not fairies. But are all fairies safe?
Think about that French Gringotts goblin wanted criminal who was caught by the Hogwarts professors last semester; his crime was embezzlement.
"And one more thing," Lynn couldn't help but say to Yelena, "you can let go of my arm now. Given the difference in our fighting strength, I think it's incredibly foolish of you to be holding onto my arm like that, acting like a protector."
The person has changed, but their words haven't.
Yelena, with a sour face, let go of Lynn's arm, inwardly cursing Lynn for disrespecting a long-legged older sister.
Harvey led them into the vault, which was much simpler than the previous mountain of gold. It was not very spacious, and there was nothing glittering in the air, only parchment scattered on the floor and a broken wooden box.
Lynn picked up a piece of parchment from the ground and knew what it was after a quick glance.
This is a shareholding agreement, and it's also bound by magic; simply put, it's a magical contract-style shareholding agreement.
The company in which the investment is made is the Broomstick Company. The investment was made in 1928, with a 23% stake. The shareholders are not fixed; whoever holds this magic agreement is a shareholder, regardless of who they are. However, the agreement lists the company's shareholder representative, whose name is John Davis.
Lynn moved the contract away from his eyes, looked at the parchment on the ground that resembled an autumn leaf, and asked somewhat speechlessly.
"So these are all shareholding agreements like this scattered all over the ground?"
"Your grandfather is a well-known angel investor in the magical world of Eastern and Central Europe. He has shares in more than half of the magical companies in Europe. Later, your father expanded his business to the Americas and invested in several companies. I don't know the specifics, but the results should be pretty good."
"Is this all the endless wealth you have?" Lynn felt that Yelena was not exaggerating at all. With the annual dividends from these companies, how could they possibly spend all the money?
Yelena said with a serious expression, "The inexhaustible wealth is not these."
"That's not all!"
Lynn pulled out a small folding stool from somewhere, quietly unfolded it, and sat down, resting his knees on his elbows and his hands on his chin, looking like he was listening attentively.
"Tell me now, I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that my family left me with the Midas touch."
Yelena rummaged through the pile of messy magic contracts and found the only small wooden box, which looked extremely old.
"That's right, it's the Midas touch. The treasure passed down in your father's family is actually this stone."
She opened the small wooden box, inside which was an irregularly shaped, blood-red stone that looked somewhat eerie.
Lynn stared at the rock in disbelief, then collapsed to the ground with a thud.
"Is this a magic stone?"
"No," Yelena denied. "There's only one Philosopher's Stone in the whole world, and it was in Nicholas Flamel's possession, but I recently heard that he destroyed it."
"Then what is this stone?"
"It's a defective piece. Your mother and I talked about it. This stone was a replica of the Philosopher's Stone made by a master alchemist. In the 18th century, he claimed to have created a stone exactly like the one made by Nicolas Flamel, but it was later proven that this stone only had the ability to turn lead into gold, but it could not create an elixir of immortality. After that, the master alchemist disappeared, and somehow the stone ended up in your father's family's hands."
It was definitely stolen!
Lynn had already decided in his mind the origin of this Philosopher's Stone. Given the Grindelwald family's talent for dark magic, coupled with the consequences of prolonged use of dark magic leading to lawlessness and disregard for human life, he would never believe that Lynn's ancestor had picked up this stone on the road.
Looking at the stone, Lynn subconsciously swallowed.
The Philosopher's Stone.
Having this thing truly means possessing endless wealth, but it also attracts too much hatred. If anyone finds out that he has this thing, he can forget about having any peace in the future.
Lynn peered around suspiciously. Harvey was standing obediently outside the vault. The fairies wouldn't come in with the owner of such an important vault.
What to do? What to do? What to do?
Why does a faint sadness well up in his heart now?
Money has become a boring number, and life has lost its purpose. Why should Lynn have to bear this pain?
I've created a group; anyone interested can join. The group ID is 1004682290. The answer to join is: Grindelwald.
