Chapter 20: The Helpless Juniors and Seniors in the House
As dawn broke, Moriarty emerged from his dormitory, passed through the dark and luxurious common lounge, and ascended the floating staircase to the eighth floor.
A tapestry depicting a giant club beating Barnabas was clearly visible, and Moriarty knew that the door to the Room of Requirement was on the wall opposite the tapestry.
He concentrated and silently recited, "I need a place to practice spells."
After Moriarty walked past the wall three times, a very smooth door appeared in the wall, and Moriarty stepped inside.
"Ding-dong~ The host has been detected to have discovered the House of Requirement. You will be rewarded with three exploration draws."
Moriarty didn't receive many prizes after entering Hogwarts.
He had originally thought that discovering Hogwarts would result in a lottery, and discovering the Slytherin dungeon would also result in a lottery, but only the Sorting Hat offered one lottery, while this room offered three lotteries at once. Moriarty looked around at the decorations in the room and nodded in satisfaction.
Inside the house was a large open space with more than a dozen wooden figures, stone figures, and straw targets erected there to test the accuracy and power of the spells.
On another small rug were many silk cushions, where one could rest when tired of practicing spells.
Moriarty wasted no time; he chose a stone figure, stood five meters away, and raised the Slytherin staff.
"Torn apart!"
The stone figure exploded with a "bang," leaving behind a pile of pebbles.
"Restored to its original state." Moriarty repaired the stone golem, then pulled out the snowwood wand from his robe, gripping it in his right hand, a cool sensation seeping into his palm.
After aiming his cedarwood wand at the stone figure, Moriarty whispered, "Crush!"
As expected, the stone figure shattered once again, with a thin layer of frost clinging to the shards, which quickly evaporated upon landing.
Moriarty repaired the stone statue a second time, and this time he drew his holly wand.
Compared to the Slytherin wand, which feels as easy to swing as one's own arm, and the cedar wand, which feels special in one's hand, the holly wand seems somewhat unfamiliar.
Moriarty flexed his wrist, channeled magic into his wand, and abruptly raised his arm: "Shatter!"
"Bang!!!"
The poor stone figure made an even louder explosion than before, and then it split into five or six large stones.
A very obvious comparison.
Moriarty then used three different wands to cast ice spells—Freeze, Hail, and Flame—on another stone golem, and then summarized the power of the three wands.
"The Slytherin Staff is the most powerful and is best suited for use with Slytherin family magic and spells left by the ancestor Salazar."
The cedarwood wand is practically tailor-made for water elemental magic; even ordinary spells can be imbued with a touch of water elemental magic.
The holly wand, however, is rather cumbersome. Its effectiveness is greatly reduced, whether for ordinary magic or water elemental magic. Perhaps only when I unlock fire elemental magic will I be able to unleash its true power.
Moriarty placed the holly wand into the bag with a regretful expression—he always used this small bag, which was enchanted with a shrinking charm and a stretching charm, as a mobile warehouse.
A door appeared in the wall, and a girl with long white hair walked into the Room of Requirement.
"Hey, this room is really strange. I never knew it could be used by two people at the same time."
Moriarty turned back and smiled: "I think what you need is a room where you can practice your spells."
"That's right, I come here every morning to practice spells. After I graduate, I want to become an Auror," the girl said. "I am Tonks."
“Nymphadora Tonks. A fourth-year student at Hufflepuff,” Moriarty repeated, but quickly added with a smile, “You’ve made a good impression on us; after all, there aren’t many girls who can interrupt Professor Dumbledore.”
Tonks chuckled, then became serious again: "You're not allowed to call me by my name, or I won't hesitate to knock you out, even if you're a descendant of Slytherin."
Moriarty moved closer to her, admiring her pale, heart-shaped face, meeting her dark, bright eyes, and said earnestly:
"Although many people think your name is not very elegant, they don't know that in ancient Greek, Nymphadora means the nymph goddess who lives in the mountains and waters in Greek mythology. It is a name with a lot of mythological connotations."
"You're the first boy to say what my name means," Tonks said, tilting his head to look at Moriarty. "I remember you're Moriarty Slytherin, and they all call you Mr. Moriarty."
So it's no wonder Mr. Moriarty is so popular with the little witch! Right?" Tonks said mischievously, circling around Moriarty, her face even changing in appearance!
"Knowledgeable, polite, charismatic, knowledgeable in many ancient spells, and incredibly wealthy. Hmm... he's practically a high-quality male wizard!"
As he spoke, Tonks transformed into Lilith, Penelope, and Gemma Farley in turn.
Moriarty stopped her just as she was about to become Professor McGonagall.
"Now I understand why you were able to interrupt Professor Dumbledore," Moriarty said sarcastically. "You even dared to prank Professor McGonagall? But seriously, Nymph, you're a disguise Magus!"
I bet you can definitely become an Auror—if the Auror Office doesn't allow you to become an Auror, then everyone in there is blind.
Senior Tonks blushed slightly, but did not reject Moriarty's address. Instead, she changed the subject: "This place is completely different from the rooms I've been to before, but I have to admit, it's a good place to practice spells."
After looking around the room, she focused her gaze on the frosted gravel.
"No wonder I felt a chill when I came in. Is this the magic that Mr. Lockhart praised as unique and extraordinary?"
Moriarty shook his head: "Mr. Lockhart overestimates me. Ice magic is indeed unique, but to say that it is my own magic is a bit of an exaggeration."
"No matter what you say, I want to try," Senior Tonks' dark eyes were full of fighting spirit. "Is that alright, Mr. Moriarty? Or, Junior Moriarty~"
Looking at this senior who always wanted to play pranks, Moriarty smiled and gave her a weapon to get rid of her!
The red light slowly shot towards Tonks. She jumped to the other side of the clearing and said with dissatisfaction, "Shouldn't both sides bow before a duel? Merlin's hair! Don't even Slytherins know proper etiquette anymore?!"
"I'm not treating this as a duel. This spell won't be as slow as last time," Moriarty said, raising his hand to unleash a shattering spell. "The villains an Auror faces won't bow to you, Nymph. Practicing a hundred spells is no match for one dangerous real battle."
"So you want to defeat me? Aha? Defeat an older female student?" Tonks chuckled, but his hands moved swiftly as he added a suit of armor to himself.
Even with the invisible shield protecting her, Tonks took five steps back before regaining her balance. "Let's try my counterattack, senior!"
Tonks' hair turned fiery red, and he pointed his brown wand at Moriarty: "Faint!"
A thick beam of red fire shot straight toward Moriarty.
The spell was clearly more powerful than a simple knockout, so Moriarty didn't dare to be careless. He first used his armor to protect himself, and then used a family spell.
"Whispering Serpent!"
A hissing sound, a strange blend of snake language and ancient Latin, rang out as silver pythons slithered out of the wooden figures and straw targets and slid to Tonks' feet.
Tonks' face paled even more, but remembering her dream, she resolutely unleashed a raging fire at her feet, attempting to burn the silver serpent to death.
But many dark green characters appeared on the silver snake's skin, protecting it from the flames, and they quickly wrapped around Tonks.
Moriarty, confident of victory, explained, "Parasitic language summons silver snakes, while the secret Latin incantations protect them from fire and water; even the Unforgivable Curse cannot kill them."
Suddenly—"Whoosh!"
Moriarty's cedarwood wand flew out of his hand!
Tonks smirked: "Silent spell! Moriarty, little junior, after the raging flames I immediately used a silent weapon to eliminate you."
As Moriarty used the Summoning Charm to retrieve his wand, he said to her, "You learned a sixth-grade silent charm in fourth grade. Maybe even Charlie Weasley isn't as good as you."
"You're pretty good too. I can't handle these silver snakes. This round is a draw." Tonks shrank back. "What are you doing? Get them out of here!"
Moriarty slowly walked towards Tonks, looking at him as if he were admiring a work of art.
"What kind of look is that?" Tonks bit her lip. "No girl likes snakes. The fact that I didn't jump up when I saw them already shows I'm a qualified Auror!"
But seeing Moriarty's indifference, Tonks relented: "Mr. Moriarty? Moriarty, junior~ could you please untie me? They're cold and slippery, making me feel so~ uncomfortable~"
