I'm sorry, but your fiancé loves me.

Chapter 39 If money could keep her, he would be overjoyed.

The atmosphere was subtle.

The living room was quiet. Yun Muqian was led by Qin Qihan to sit on the sofa. She could feel Qin's mother's gaze sweep across her face and land on the hand Qin Qihan was holding. There was a slight pause and a kind of scrutiny in her gaze.

Presumably, her son's decision to cancel the engagement was related to her.

However, out of politeness, she still had someone pour tea for Yun Muqian.

Qin Qihan had always been a well-behaved child, and this was the first time he had done something that was incomprehensible to ordinary people.

Qin's mother was in her early fifties and was very well-maintained. She sat there with her back straight and didn't ask any questions, only saying some caring and polite words.

Yun Muqian is usually very emotionally intelligent, but at this moment, she didn't want to show her desires.

Qin Qihan gently stroked the back of her hand, as if to comfort her.

Qin's father sat on the sofa, subtly observing her for a few moments: "Since you're here, make yourself at home and don't feel awkward."

Yun Muqian nodded in agreement, taking small sips of her tea.

Rules, refinement, and dignity—these are the hallmarks of the Qin family.

Qin's mother began by asking, "Where are you from?"

"From this city."

"What do you do at home?"

"Both my parents were ordinary workers, and they have passed away."

Qin's mother nodded, and Qin Qihan interjected, "Mom, don't ask such detailed questions."

Qin's mother didn't ask any more questions. She felt like she was sitting on pins and needles during the few hours she spent at the Qin family home.

During the meal, the dishes on the table were exquisite, with a proper balance of meat and vegetables, and the porcelain bowls and plates were set out neatly. Qin Qihan sat next to Yun Muqian and didn't stop eating from the moment he sat down.

I would put a piece of food on her plate, ladle a bowl of soup for her, and ask her if she wanted more rice.

Yun Muqian's bowl was piled high with food as she focused on eating.

Qin's father would occasionally ask Qin Qihan about his company, and Qin Qihan would answer a few words. The conversation between the father and son was brief. Yun Muqian sat next to him and listened. Suddenly, she felt that Qin Qihan was completely different at home than in front of her.

He would laugh, joke, and act spoiled in front of her, but at home he was rather cold and distant.

As the meal drew to a close, Qin's mother put down her chopsticks, dabbed her lips with a napkin, and then looked at Yun Muqian, suddenly smiling: "Qihan rarely brings people back; you're the first."

Zhou Xue practically offered herself up.

Yun Muqian didn't know how to respond to that, so she just smiled and tried to smooth things over.

"You young people should get along well," Qin's mother said again, her tone indifferent, making it impossible to tell whether it was a blessing or something else.

After dinner, Qin Qihan went to his study and talked with his father for a while. Before leaving, he suddenly said to Yun Muqian, "Add my mother on WeChat so it will be easier to contact her if anything comes up."

Yun Muqian was stunned for a moment. Before she could find an excuse to refuse, Qin's mother had already taken out her phone: "Here, I'll scan your QR code."

When the QR code was handed to her, Yun Muqian felt she had no room to refuse.

She took out her phone, opened WeChat, and saw the screen pop up showing that the QR code had been successfully scanned. Qin's mother's WeChat profile picture was a white camellia.

When she was writing the note, her finger paused for a moment, but she still typed "Auntie" in the end.

Once in the car, Qin Qihan started the engine, glanced at her sideways, and spoke with a fawning tone:

"Are you tired? Do you want to find a place to sit down? You said you wanted to see a movie before, there's a new one out there."

Yun Muqian leaned back in the passenger seat, watching the shadows of the sycamore trees rushing past the car window, without saying a word.

Qin Qihan waited a few seconds, then changed the subject: "How about we go get something to drink? I know a dessert shop..."

"No need," she finally spoke, her voice flat and devoid of emotion. "Just go back."

Qin Qihan didn't say anything else, and turned the steering wheel to drive in the direction where she lived.

Along the way, he would glance at her from time to time. Seeing that she was staring out the window, he reached out and turned down the air conditioning by one degree, and then turned off the stereo, as if he was afraid of disturbing her.

Yun Muqian closed her eyes.

She was thinking about something. She had been acting coldly lately, and when she went to meet his parents, she had barely spoken a few words to him or his parents from the moment she entered the door until now, except for maintaining politeness.

Even if a normal person isn't angry, they would at least feel uncomfortable being treated like this.

She knew Qin Qihan all too well; in the past, who would dare to give him the cold shoulder?

But now, the less she speaks, the more attentive he becomes. The more she backs away, the more he moves closer. Something's really wrong.

Her original plan was to make Qin Qihan get tired of her on his own initiative. She would be indifferent to him, and he would feel bored. The two of them would naturally break up cleanly, without owing each other anything.

She even considered that, given Qin Qihan's personality, he might not even wait for her to become indifferent before he would say it was over first.

But he took her home to meet his parents, and even told them in front of them that she was his girlfriend.

Yun Muqian suddenly felt a headache coming on. She rested her elbow on the edge of the car window, pressed her fingers against her temples, and gently rubbed them.

"Headache?" Qin Qihan's voice rang out immediately. "Are you tired today?"

"No." She lowered her hand, still not turning to look at him.

The car stopped at a red light. Qin Qihan turned to the side, reached out and tucked a strand of hair that had slipped down her cheek behind her ear, and gently pressed her temple.

Yun Muqian's eyelashes trembled slightly, but she did not flinch.

After the car started restarting, Qin Qihan suddenly spoke up: "I know you're not happy today."

She did not speak.

"But I still want you to go." His voice was a little lower than before. "I want my parents to meet you."

Yun Muqian finally turned her head and looked at him. "Qin Qihan."

"Um?"

"Have you ever thought," her voice was very soft, almost drowned out by the sound of the car's air conditioning, "that maybe we're not a good match?"

His fingers tightened slightly on the steering wheel.

"I haven't thought about it," he said calmly. "And you shouldn't either."

Yun Muqian leaned back in her chair and didn't say anything more.

The car stopped in front of the villa. Yun Muqian had already unbuckled her seatbelt and was about to get out. Qin Qihan turned off the engine and followed closely behind her.

The entryway light is voice-activated; it turns on when someone enters. Yun Muqian bent down to change her shoes, kicked off her high heels, and walked barefoot onto the floor toward the living room. After taking two steps, she was suddenly surrounded by a pair of hands around her waist from behind.

Qin Qihan rested his chin on her shoulder, tightened his arms, and pulled her into his embrace.

"I'm sorry you had to suffer," he said softly. "It's all my fault."

Yun Muqian stood still, letting him hold her.

"Qin Qihan, I don't want to argue with you."

His arms tightened slightly. "I didn't want to either."

The living room was quiet for a few seconds. Yun Muqian closed her eyes and suddenly realized that what she had just said was stupid. She was already giving him the cold shoulder, but she said she didn't want to argue.

But then she thought again, given Qin Qihan's temper, if she stubbornly argued with him, no one would have a good night.

She knew him too well; the more she ignored him, the more determined he became, insisting on getting to the bottom of things. They'd end up sitting in the living room, arguing back and forth until dawn, without ever reaching a conclusion. What was the point?

Forget it.

"I haven't been in a good mood lately."

She said, her tone softening slightly, her feigned concern just right, making it sound like she was genuinely explaining something.

Qin Qihan loosened his grip and turned her to face him.

"It's okay, just tell me if you're feeling down, I'll be there for you."

She took half a step back, creating some distance, tilted her head to look at him, and suddenly wondered just how much tolerance he had for her.

"I want you to buy me things."

Qin Qihan's gaze fell on her face: "Tell me what you want."

"Buy me a Hermès bag."

"good."

Yun Muqian paused, not expecting him to answer so readily. Her intention was to make him think she was materialistic, superficial, and always asking for things.

She bit her lip and continued, "I want a Chanel bag too."

"Can."

"I also want a set of Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry."

"I'll have someone deliver them to you tomorrow so you can choose."

She looked at him, and his expression remained unchanged; in fact, the corners of his mouth even turned up slightly, as if he found her somewhat adorable.

A surge of anger welled up inside her, and she blurted out, "I want another car."

What kind of car?

Porsche.

"OK."

"I also want a house."

Qin Qihan agreed.

Yun Muqian stood in front of him and rattled off seven or eight things in one breath, from bags to jewelry to cars to houses. The more she talked, the more outrageous it became, until even she herself felt that she sounded like an insatiable gold digger.

Qin Qihan answered each "good" steadily and without hesitation.

He would be overjoyed if money could keep her.
