I am a dragon

Chapter 29 Surveillance

I rushed in, interrupting Zhou Mingyuan, and said, "Manager Zhou, what right do you have to enter my office without permission?"

Instead of getting angry, Zhou Mingyuan laughed and said to a bespectacled man in a suit next to him, "Director Du, you see, right? Lu Feng, who is in charge of the health consultation room, doesn't take me, a mere manager, seriously at all."

Director Du adjusted his glasses and said, "Lu Feng, right? I'm the service director of Jinhai Property Management Company. The entire property management office is equipped with security cameras, and your place is no exception..."

What he said wasn't wrong, but it was a bit strange that a director personally came to install the cameras.

"Director Du, installing cameras elsewhere is fine, but not in the treatment room."

Why?

"Mainly to protect the privacy of homeowners."

The treatment room is actually for residents who need massage and acupuncture; I don't think anyone would want to have it done under a camera.

Zhou Mingyuan sneered, "Lu Feng, you're so afraid of installing cameras, are you planning to do something illegal or against the rules?"

In front of Director Du, I didn't argue with Zhou Mingyuan, but explained the reasons I had come up with.

Director Du said sarcastically, "Whether it's you who's unwilling or the homeowner is unwilling, we still need to verify. I'm here to strictly enforce company regulations. If you have any other opinions, you can raise them with the company or General Manager Xu."

I can see that Director Du is just making a big deal out of nothing and won't listen to my explanation at all, so I'm too lazy to insist.

He took two steps back and watched Zhou Mingyuan direct the workers to install the time clock and camera.

He installed a total of eight cameras in the two rooms, one large and one small, to ensure a 360-degree view with no blind spots!

After the installation was completed, Zhou Mingyuan said gloatingly, "Lu Feng, health consultation is a new business. I don't care who's behind you, but if you're not in the work area, you have to make a written explanation."

If you show up at an inappropriate time, you still need to write an explanation. Do you understand?

Although you are my former subordinate and I would like to take care of you, rules are rules, and I cannot bend the law for personal gain.

This is clearly Zhou Mingyuan settling a personal score while making it sound all high-sounding.

"This is..." Zhou Mingyuan added.

"That's company policy," I said on behalf of Zhou Mingyuan.

Zhou Mingyuan raised an eyebrow, ignoring me, and turned to Director Du, saying, "Director Du, it's too noisy here. Why don't you come to my office for some tea? I just bought some green tea, please have a taste."

Director Du nodded, not even glancing at me, and followed Zhou Mingyuan into the property management office next door.

Tao Xiaotao suddenly appeared, looked at Zhou Mingyuan, and said with a sneer, "What kind of person is he? He's making a big deal out of nothing. He'll be kicked out of the company sooner or later. It's outrageous. I'm not convinced."

I said frankly and helplessly, "Workers don't have the concept of 'submitting' or 'not submitting,' they only have the concept of 'obeying' or 'not obeying.' Okay, let's get to work."

After the time clock and camera were installed, Zhou Mingyuan pretended to inspect them with his hands behind his back. Then, in front of me and Tao Xiaotao, he announced a few rules and walked away like a victorious rooster.

However, as soon as he turned his head, he was tripped by Tao Xiaotao and fell hard. Zhou Mingyuan jumped up in a fit of rage.

Tao Xiaotao glared at him fearlessly, and Zhou Mingyuan didn't dare to utter a sound, slinking away in embarrassment.

For the next few days, I stayed in the office during my working hours, not giving Zhou Mingyuan any chance.

I went to Lin Fang's company to find him during my weekend break, but the company was empty. I asked the security guard in the office building.

The security guard asked me if I was there to collect a debt.

"I..." I was about to say no, but then I thought about it and said, "Yes."

"Then you're too late. The previous group has already moved everything out of the company."

Has it all been moved out?

I immediately panicked: "Everything's been moved out? What does that mean?"

The security guard ignored me, so I shoved the cigarettes I had just bought into his hand. He looked around to make sure no one was watching, then whispered, "Something's probably happened to Mr. Lin's company. Forget about him, everyone else in the company has disappeared."

"Something happened? What happened?"

"I don't know. How much money do I owe you?"

I gave a perfunctory answer, left the office building, and quickly called Lin Fang, but Lin Fang's phone was always switched off.

I tried calling his backup phone, but no one answered.

I didn't dare contact my second aunt or Jiang Ruxue, so after thinking for a while, I dialed Ning Meng's number.

"I didn't expect you to give me..."

"Where is Lin Fang?"

There was a moment of silence on Ning Meng's end: "Could you come to the school?"

The school she mentioned was Miancheng University, which is where Jiang Ruxue teaches.

I thought about it for two or three seconds and then agreed.

I had to go to work in the afternoon, and there wasn't enough time for me to take the bus, so I hailed a Didi (ride-hailing service). A dozen minutes later, Ning Meng and I met at a mala tang (spicy hot pot) restaurant near Miancheng University.

Because it's near a school, most of the customers in the store are university students. Cotton City University isn't a 985 or 211 university, but it has a large student population, and prices in the surrounding area are relatively low.

This was the first time I had met Ning Meng since I discovered her relationship with Lin Fang.

I ordered two servings of spicy hot pot. Ning Meng lowered her head and said, "I'm sorry..."

"No, you haven't done anything wrong to me," I said firmly. "Enough with the nonsense, where's Lin Fang?"

"I'm looking for him too."

Ning Meng subconsciously touched her stomach. "I thought he turned off his phone to avoid me."

My eyes widened in surprise; sure enough, she was pregnant.

I took a bite of the food, finding it tasteless, and asked, "When was the last time you saw him?"

Ning Meng said, "It was that night..."

I knew which night she was referring to, and I scoffed, saying, "I haven't seen him since?"

"No, I had planned to go stargazing with him that night, but he got a phone call and left in a hurry. I thought he had gone home, so I..."

That's why he took off his clothes and rushed into the bathroom, wanting to play in the water with Lin Fang.

I didn't say that out loud; the most important thing right now is to find Lin Fang.

"Alright, I'm finished eating. Let me know if there's any news about Lin Fang."

I hardened my heart and said that, then prepared to leave.

Ning Meng grabbed me, looked at me pitifully, and said, "Lu Feng, I don't know what to do now."

"It has nothing to do with me."

"I know I lied to you, it's all my fault." Ning Meng suddenly raised her head, as if she had mustered up her courage, and said to me, "Can you come with me..."

"Where to?"

"I'm scared to go to the hospital."

"Now you're scared? Why didn't you think of that sooner?" I swallowed my hurtful words again, thought for a moment, and asked, "Does Lin Fang know you're pregnant?"

"I haven't had a chance to tell him yet."

I initially intended to just walk away and ignore her mess, but seeing her pitiful state, my heart softened immediately.

"He doesn't have children. If he knew... he'd probably be very happy. How about you wait a little longer? Maybe he'll show up in a couple of days."

These words were less to comfort Ning Meng and more to comfort myself; no matter what, I don't want anything to happen to Lin Fang.

However, what happened next was beyond my imagination...
