I am a dragon

Chapter 16 Night Talk

It was past 3 a.m. when we left the police station, and everyone was exhausted.

Jiang Ruxue said to Lin Fang, "It's getting late. I'll take Ning Meng home. You take Xiao Feng to find some clothes and a shower. I'll be back soon."

Lin Fang's eyes flickered for a moment, then he nodded.

Ning Meng declined, saying, "No need, I can go back by myself."

"It's so late, how can you go back by yourself?" Jiang Ruxue disagreed.

I disagreed, but I didn't have a car or a driver's license, which made me want to get a driver's license.

Lin Fang said, "I'm worried about you driving home alone after you've taken Ning Meng home. How about this, you take Xiao Feng home first, and I'll take Ning Meng home."

Jiang Ruxue thought for a moment and said, "Okay, then take it slow."

"Um."

And so, I watched Ning Meng get into Lin Fang's car, then sit in the passenger seat, and watch Lin Fang's car drive away and disappear into the night.

"Alright, stop looking, they've all gone far away," Jiang Ruxue teased me.

I then came to my senses, blushing, and shrank back in the passenger seat, not knowing what to say.

Jiang Ruxue chuckled and said, "Are you still embarrassed?"

"No," I stubbornly insisted.

Jiang Ruxue smiled but didn't say anything. She took off her high heels, put on a pair of sneakers, started the car, and drove home.

I caught a glimpse of Jiang Ruxue changing her shoes, and the memory of her soft little feet reminded me of a guilty conscience. I felt like slapping myself.

I was struggling to suppress an indescribable emotion that wouldn't go away, so I quickly tried to distract myself.

"Sister-in-law, does my brother know Ning Meng too?"

Jiang Ruxue gripped the steering wheel, looking straight ahead: "Mm."

I was curious: "How did they meet?"

Jiang Ruxue said, "That was last year. Our school had a party, and your brother happened to be free, so he went with me. Ning Meng was one of the hostesses at the time."

Wow, this works!

I am ashamed of my own social skills as Lin Fang; he is a social butterfly in my eyes.

Jiang Ruxue turned to look at me and said, "Ning Meng is a good girl. Judging from today, she definitely has feelings for you. You should try harder!"

I chuckled and said, "I have to thank my sister-in-law."

"If you succeed in the future, don't forget to give me a big red envelope!"

"That's a must."

"I think you and Ning Meng are a good match, but your brother said it wouldn't work. His taste, hmph." Jiang Ruxue pouted.

For some reason, I feel particularly relaxed when I'm with Jiang Ruxue.

That night, Lin Fang and Jiang Ruxue had a fight, most likely because of this. Judging from Jiang Ruxue's words, Lin Fang didn't approve of me being with Ning Meng.

I don't understand this at all; I don't understand why he opposes it.

Jiang Ruxue's smile faded, and she asked, "By the way, you must have offended someone by being kidnapped this time. Do you know who did it?"

I get angry just thinking about it: "It must be Zhou Mingyuan."

Jiang Ruxue asked doubtfully, "He's your boss. Even if he's dissatisfied with your work, would he really resort to underhanded tactics?"

"I don't know either. Ever since I went to work at the property management company, he has looked down on me and has been targeting me in every way. He even tried to fire me a couple of days ago."

Zhou Mingyuan harbors a grudge against me. He hired someone to ruin my reputation this morning, but I didn't expect him to take action against me so quickly.

When the police were questioning me just now, I really wanted to tell them, but I had no evidence, and I was afraid they would use it against me.

Jiang Ruxue was also present when An Hong deliberately picked a fight, so there's no need to go into too much detail.

I regret it now. Why didn't I just obediently delete the video? I lost what was most beneficial to me.

Jiang Ruxue thought for a moment and said, "There must be some reason you don't know. Don't worry, I can try to find out. If all else fails, you can ask your brother. He knows a lot of shady characters, so it shouldn't be a problem."

I shook my head and said, "I've already troubled you all enough. I'll just be more careful from now on. I don't believe he would really dare to kill me."

"It's dark, the roads are slippery, and society is complicated."

Jiang Ruxue sighed.

Suddenly, I remembered something, slapped my forehead, and exclaimed, "This is terrible!"

"What's wrong?"

"I wrote a work plan, which was originally intended for Mr. Xu. Now I'm in trouble. Mr. Xu didn't receive it. I wonder what he'll think." I felt annoyed.

Jiang Ruxue advised me, "You wrote the plan, so just write another one. As for President Xu... she's not an unreasonable person. This time the mistake wasn't yours; just explain it clearly."

It seems this is the only way.

The atmosphere in the car was a bit somber, so I changed the subject to something lighter, saying, "It's my cousin's birthday today, didn't you celebrate?"

Jiang Ruxue's eyes dimmed, and she said, "Your brother is so busy that we hardly ever see him. He probably doesn't even remember his own birthday. I called him, and he said he had to be with a client."

I feel sorry for Jiang Ruxue. She's so outstanding, yet her husband is never home.

Alas, how can one find a way to have it all, to be true to both Buddha and one's beloved?

As we were talking, the car had already entered the underground parking lot of the residential area. Jiang Ruxue parked the car, and the two of us took the elevator back home.

Jiang Ruxue entered the room, took off her high heels, changed into slippers, went into the bedroom, and closed the door.

Just before entering, she said, "Oh, right, this dress was originally meant to be your birthday present, but someone stole it. I'll get you a replacement later."

I felt a surge of emotion.

Jiang Ruxue was not only the first woman besides my mother to buy me clothes, but also the first woman to give me a birthday present.

I think she thanked me and said that she appreciated my kindness, but the gift was unnecessary.

Jiang Ruxue didn't say anything, just raised her hand and waved it behind her before going into the bedroom.

I sensed that she wasn't in a good mood, so I decided to have a serious talk with Lin Fang.

I went into the bedroom, changed my clothes, and waited with my ears perked up for Lin Fang to return.

I waited for about half an hour, and I was so sleepy that I could barely keep my eyes open, when I finally heard the door open.

Lin Fang is back.

The sound of the door opening startled me awake. I quickly opened the door and, sure enough, saw Lin Fang.

Lin Fang saw me, smiled, and said, "What time is it? It's almost dawn, aren't you going to sleep?"

"Brother, I need to talk to you."

"Okay, let's go to your room."

Lin Fang entered my room, and I closed the door from behind. He threw his handbag on the bed and said, "You don't need to say anything. You're my brother. This is such a big deal that you were kidnapped. We can't just let it go like this. I'll find out who did it when it's light.

"It's not about that." I took out a cigarette and offered one to Lin Fang.

Lin Fang was taken aback: "What is it?"

I hesitated again, and Lin Fang patted me and laughed, "You're too shy to tell me, kid. Just say what's on your mind. If you want a woman, I'll arrange one for you right now."

I took a deep breath and said to Lin Fang, "Brother, that's not what I meant. I wanted to talk to you about you and your wife..."
