Because she was addicted

Chapter 31 Can't Sleep

"Would you like some chili sauce?"

While Wen Jia was lost in thought, Lu Chenyan had already prepared the noodles and was adding the toppings.

"Okay."

"I just saw some chili sauce in your fridge, it doesn't look like it was bought from a supermarket."

Lu Chenyan had already opened the jar, scooped a spoonful into the warm reed soup bowl, and added a large spoonful to his own bowl as well.

"My sister made it herself. She was pregnant and had a baby, and she couldn't stay at home, so she started a vegetable garden behind the villa and grew a lot of vegetables. I stayed at her house for a few days last time and brought back a few bottles."

As they were talking, Lu Chenyan had already placed the noodles on the table and sat down opposite them.

"Those few days you were on vacation?"

"Yes. I went to see her as soon as I got back from Dali."

Lu Chenyan lowered his head and ate his noodles without saying a word.

"How come you can eat spicy food?" Wen Jia had wanted to ask this for a long time.

"When I was in England, we were poor and vegetables were expensive. A bottle of hot sauce could solve a lot of problems. The owner of the Chinese restaurant where I worked was from Sichuan and made a lot of chili sauce. That's when I learned to eat spicy food. I also used hot sauce instead of butter to spread on bread, and it tasted amazing."

Lu Chenyan spoke very casually.

But Wen Jia's heart still ached a little.

"Later, my brother sent me money, and my life got a little easier. But eating spicy food is like poison; it's addictive."

Lu Chenyan looked up, his eyes bright.

After dinner, he insisted on washing the dishes.

"I'm here for a free meal, I can't just do nothing. Besides, there are only two bowls, it'll be quick."

Lu Chenyan's diligence made Wen Jia feel somewhat uncomfortable.

Before, when she cooked at Shen Yu's house, she did everything herself: buying groceries, washing vegetables, preparing ingredients, cooking, washing dishes, cleaning, and taking out the trash. Shen Yu would just sit in the living room playing games on his phone and wouldn't help at all.

Wen Jia has gotten used to it.

From childhood to adulthood, she and her older sister Wen Lin did all the housework together. She never felt there was anything wrong with it.

Of course, sometimes she would think that it would be even better if Shen Yu could lend a helping hand.

But Shen Yu was busy with work, and when he got home, he would just lie on the sofa and drink water without even bothering to pour it.

Wen Jia gave up hope.

They were together for a year, and she took good care of Shen Yu.

Shen Yu's mother initially had reservations about Wen Jia, feeling that her family background was too poor to be a good match for Shen Yu. However, after meeting her a few times and eating her cooking a few times, she completely changed her mind and told Shen Yu that Wen Jia had a good personality, a high level of education, and most importantly, she knew how to take care of people.

"Leave the trash by the door? I'll take it with me when I leave."

While she was still in a daze, Lu Chenyan had already finished tidying up and sat down next to her.

"Um."

She was really not used to this change.

Lu Chenyan wiped his hands, stared at her computer, and asked, "Didn't you say you had questions for me? Come on. For the sake of dinner, I'll give you free information."

Wen Jia chuckled.

Lu Chenyan has been eyeing this project for a while now, and his understanding of the industry is far deeper than Wen Jia's. Their perspectives are also different, leading to a more profound understanding of the issues.

With just a little guidance from him, Wen Jia felt as if she had suddenly understood something.

"You're really amazing. After your guidance, I'm much more confident about my presentation next week."

"So I'm still of some use?"

Lu Chenyan sat next to her, very close.

"It's somewhat useful."

Wen Jia smiled and turned to look at him.

"Besides this, I have other important uses for it."

Lu Chenyan's eyes began to sting, his voice grew softer and softer, and he slowly moved closer to Wen Jia, his body becoming increasingly restless.

"What great use is it?"

As he drew closer, Wen Jia's heart raced as she smelled his scent. Her voice, almost a whisper from her throat, was like a cat's meow.

What do you think?

The next second, Lu Chenyan was already close to Wen Jia, gently pulling her into his arms. His warm lips first lightly kissed her forehead, and seeing that she did not resist, he slowly moved to her eyes and nose, and then kissed her lips.

Wen Jia's heart pounded like a drum, and she responded awkwardly and reservedly.

As soon as Lu Chenyan felt her response, his breath became wet and heavy. He captured her lips and kissed her more and more passionately, his hands supporting her back as he slowly moved towards Wen Jia's front.

Wen Jia blushed instantly and pushed him away.

Lu Chenyan pressed his forehead against hers, breathing softly.

"Is that alright?"

Wen Jia felt dizzy from his kisses, tears welling in her eyes. But her remaining reason made her press herself tightly against Lu Chenyan's chest, murmuring:

"I have something to tell you."

"Does it have to be now?"

"Um."

Lu Chenyan took a deep breath, his voice damp and humid as he pressed his forehead against hers.

"you say."

"Shen Yu came to see me after get off work today." After thinking it over, Wen Jia decided to lay out Shen Yu's situation before taking things further with Lu Chenyan.

"Um."

"He told me in front of the whole company that he was my boyfriend."

"so what?"

We had already broken up before I met you.

"I know."

"?"

"I'm not blind. You two were staring at each other like chickens at the company, thinking you were hiding it well." Lu Chenyan gently pecked Wen Jia's forehead and said in a deep voice, "He's not good enough for you."

"You're not upset that I kept it from you?" Wen Jia asked.

"Why blame me? Everyone has a past. More than the past, I care about what you think now."

Wen Jia snuggled even deeper into his arms.

"I have no idea."

She murmured, the turmoil in her heart like a noose, tightly binding her and making it hard for her to breathe.

She enjoyed being with Lu Chenyan.

Lu Chenyan came from a wealthy family, but he didn't have a single air about him. Except for the first few days after their reunion when he was arguing with her and pretending to be dead with a stern face, he was very nice the rest of the time.

When she couldn't see him, she worried about him and felt anxious for him.

She was still concerned about his health.

It's been going on for more than just a day or two; I dream about him almost every night.

However, the class divide between them made her hesitant to take that step.

"It's okay."

"I'm waiting for you."

Lu Chenyan buried his head in the crook of her neck and took a deep breath.

Wenjia's warm body pressed against his chest, fragrant and soft, her fair and smooth forehead and long eyelashes casting shadows on her face, the faint scent of grass lingering in his nostrils.

The burning sensation in my lower abdomen lingered.

My body is still screaming.

He could only hold Wen Jia tighter, slowly adjust his breathing, and try his best to suppress his surging desires.

It took a long time for the tension to subside.

"I'm leaving."

Lu Chenyan gently kissed her forehead.

When Wen Jia heard the door close, she felt as if a piece of her heart had been ripped out.

The house became quiet again.

Just seconds ago, there stood a man who was perfect in every way, and the air in the room was as hot and scorching as a chili pepper.

Wen Jia tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep.

The oppressive heat and humidity of the downpour seemed to have not yet dissipated.

She finally couldn't resist sending Lu Chenyan a message, "Are you home yet?"

The reply came almost instantly: "No."

"Half an hour has passed and it's still not here?"

Lu Chenyan posted a photo.

It was downstairs in Wenjia Residential Area, under the dim streetlights, a ground littered with cigarette butts.

"Have a smoke to calm down. Aren't you going to sleep yet?"

Wen Jia turned over and looked down from the bedroom window.

Sure enough, there was a person leaning against that lamppost—it was Lu Chenyan. The lamplight cast a long shadow of him, and in the stillness of the neighborhood at midnight, his lonely figure appeared especially desolate.

"I can't sleep," Wen Jia replied.

Lu Chenyan waited for about half a minute before asking, "Why?"

Wen Jia remained silent.

About half a minute later, Lu Chenyan sent another message, "Can I come up?"

"Um."

Wen Jia saw Lu Chenyan, who had been lazily leaning against the lamppost under the streetlight, suddenly stand up straight, stare at his phone for a long time before turning around and running into the stairwell. He even tripped over his left and right feet because he was running too fast and almost fell.

Wen Jia went back to her room and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and rinse her mouth again.

Although she had already washed it once.

She even reapplied her lipstick, drew her eyebrows, added some blush, and sprayed some perfume on herself.

A knock came at the door.

Wen Jia's steps were unsteady; she almost floated to the door.

The moment the door opened, Wen Jia was pulled into Lu Chenyan's arms. He lowered his head and kissed her passionately, with a primal, wild intensity, as if he wanted to merge the two of them into one. He kissed her as he removed her clothes and carried her upstairs.

Wen Jia tilted her head back and clung tightly to him.

This time, she did not evade or resist.

Respond only with fervor.
