Falling into the rain

Chapter 7 The Little Heartless One

Seeing that she remained silent, Wen Huaixu put his arm around her shoulder and moved closer to her. The black umbrella was placed over their heads and tilted towards Yu Tingyu.

He held the person tightly in his arms, just like when they were children, and didn't think anything was wrong.

Yu Tingyu was someone he had taken care of since childhood, so it was perfectly normal for him to hug her.

But in the eyes of Yu Tingyu, who coveted Wen Huaixu, it was a completely different story.

After getting into the car, Wen Huaixu clearly noticed that Yu Tingyu's expression was off.

He frowned. "Where do you feel unwell?"

Her cheeks looked flushed, as if she had a fever again.

"No." Yu Tingyu was carefully folding his suit jacket when she heard this, and quickly shook her head, the heat on her face dissipating somewhat in the cold wind. "I'm fine."

Wen Huaixu scoffed lightly: "If you wear this little again next time, I won't send you any clothes."

The moment he finished speaking, the smile on his lips faded slightly.

Even if he didn't offer it, many men would still rush to hand Yu Tingyu the clothes, just like Zhao Xiao did today.

"Second brother wouldn't do that."

Yu Tingyu knew that Wen Huaixu had a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Over the years, he was the only one who cared about her the most. If she had a headache or fever, he would be more anxious than anyone else.

So Yu Tingyu didn't want to upset him anymore, and obediently said, "I was wrong this time, I'll definitely listen to you next time."

Wen Huaixu gave a low hum, but didn't say anything.

The car door opened, and Wen Huaixu's secretary returned, holding an umbrella and carrying two cups of warm tea.

"Miss, Mr. Wen was worried you'd get cold, so he asked me to quickly buy you something to warm you up."

The secretary handed tea to Wen Huaixu and Yu Tingyu respectively, but Wen Huaixu did not take it and told him to take it himself.

"Thank you for your hard work, Secretary Wang." Yu Tingyu nodded. The warmth from her palm did make her feel much better. She looked at Wen Huaixu and whispered, "Thank you, brother."

Wen Huaixu reached out and tapped her forehead with his knuckles, as if to reprimand her for being too formal. He then looked up at the driver's seat and calmly ordered, "Drive."

Yu Tingyu glared at him and pretended to rub her skin, but Wen Huaixu didn't use any force at all, and it didn't hurt at all.

Watching the black Cullinan gradually drive away from the school gate, she feigned curiosity and asked, "Second Brother, why didn't you let Miss Chen get in the car just now?"

What Yu Tingyu really wanted to ask was what exactly happened that night that Chen Xuning mentioned.

But she had no right to interfere. Given her status, Wen Huaixu's private life was not something she should pry into. She always behaved herself and never crossed that red line.

Wen Huaixu crossed his long legs, leaned back in his chair with a straight posture, his eyelids lowered, and his dark, deep eyes fixed on Yu Tingyu's face as he retorted, "Why should I let her get in the car?"

Yu Tingyu tried to keep her tone as that of an observer, saying casually, "...They all say that Miss Chen is your future marriage partner."

"Who said that?" Wen Huaixu remained noncommittal, neither denying nor nodding, but instead asked her.

"It's just..." Yu Tingyu paused, momentarily unable to recall the name, or even when she had heard it, only remembering that it happened. "Anyway, that's what everyone says."

Wen Huaixu raised an eyebrow: "Does Xiaoyu think so too?"

"I..." Yu Tingyu was burned by his gaze. She looked away and lowered her voice, "I don't know."

Even if it's not this Miss Chen, there could be Miss Qian, Miss Sun, or Miss Li, but it will never be her, so what difference does it make?

Wen Huaixu didn't speak, staring at her for a long time. His eyes were like a misty sea, unfathomable.

He also had many questions to ask, such as whether she was in a relationship with Zhao Xiao.

But Yu Tingyu is indeed a grown woman, and even if she is in a relationship, he doesn't seem to have any right to stop her.

But it felt as if a huge stone was pressing down on him, making it hard for him to breathe and causing him discomfort.

Not wanting to ask her directly, Wen Huaixu changed his approach, slowly opening his lips: "Have you been hiding anything from me lately?"

Yu Tingyu's mind was still preoccupied with Chen Xuning when she suddenly heard his question. Her heart skipped a beat, and she couldn't maintain any semblance of composure.

In the past, Yu Tingyu always had a clear and open mind.

But ever since she discovered that she had fallen in love with Wen Huaixu, she seemed to be hiding a big secret. Even when she looked at him, she didn't seem as confident as before.

Could it be...?

impossible!

She kept these feelings buried deep in her heart and never overstepped the bounds, so he could never have discovered them.

Yu Tingyu steadied herself and smiled at him: "...Why did you suddenly ask that, Second Brother? What could I possibly be hiding from you? I'm busy studying and performing every day, there's really no room for anything else in my mind."

That's what she said, but Wen Huaixu saw her surprised and nervous face right away. What else was there that he didn't understand? His guess was confirmed, and his heart was suddenly gripped tightly.

For a moment, he felt all the blood rushing to his head, making him dizzy, but he forcefully suppressed it.

Why didn't Yu Tingyu tell him about her relationship? Did she not trust him, or did she feel there was no need to tell him at all?

But none of them made Wen Huaixu feel comfortable.

It felt like something was pushing me off course, and I couldn't pull it back.

Wen Huaixu couldn't help but laugh at himself, thinking that he was probably getting more and more long-winded as he got older.

He couldn't contain himself at the slightest sound of movement.

This is unlike him.

Wen Huaixu lifted his eyes, captured her gaze, and stared at her quietly for a while.

Yu Tingyu's throat went dry from nervousness, but she saw that Wen Huaixu had returned to his usual self, even more gentle. His previous seriousness seemed like Yu Tingyu's illusion: "You should relax. Grandpa and the others are going to Beidaihe to escape the summer heat next month, and you'll be going with them."

These retired cadres have time to recuperate and relax every year, so this is a good opportunity to give Yu Tingyu a mental refreshment.

"Will you go?" Yu Tingyu asked subconsciously, then regretted it as soon as she asked.

I promised to keep my distance from him, and I was even looking for a place to live outside, so why am I still clinging to my brother like this?

Yu Tingyu inwardly berated herself.

"We'll see." Wen Huaixu raised an eyebrow. "What? If I don't go, you're going to run around wildly with Shen Sihe and the others?"

"Am I that kind of person?" Yu Tingyu snorted twice, feigning anger. "It would be best if you didn't go, then no one would bother me."

"You, you," Wen Huaixu said, seemingly having moved on from the previous topic. He pointed at Yu Tingyu and scoffed, "You little ingrate."

Yu Tingyu stuck out her tongue, picked up her hot tea and drank it, then said nothing more.

Silence returned to the car, and everything seemed peaceful, but only they knew what they were really thinking.

-

Upon arriving at their destination, they happened to run into Zhao Xiao's car and entered the parking lot together.

Yu Tingyu greeted Wen Huaixu and got out of the car, then went into the hotel with Zhao Xiao and Shen Sihe.

Sitting in the car, Wen Huaixu saw Yu Tingyu talking to Zhao Xiao through the car window. They were not far apart. His eyes darkened, and he couldn't help but light a cigarette.

Actually, he wasn't a heavy smoker; he would only smoke one when he was really anxious.

Grayish-white smoke swirled around his fingertips as he spoke in a deep, hoarse voice, "How's the matter I asked you to investigate going?"

Even though he already knew that Yu Tingyu was dating Zhao Xiao, he still wanted to know if any other men had been hanging around her lately.

Wang Hang has been Wen Huaixu's secretary for seven years, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him his confidant.

"Indeed, there is one." Wang Hang reported truthfully, "But we didn't find any particularly special men. We just heard that this young master of the Chu family often goes to Miss's concerts and always sits in the VIP section. He seems to be quite supportive."

"Chu Lingyu's younger brother?" Wen Huaixu narrowed his eyes.

"Exactly." Wang Hang nodded.

Wen Huaixu sneered.

One Zhao Xiao isn't enough? All sorts of nobodies and scoundrels have come.
