Falling into the rain

Chapter 24 A Mild Death by a Scale

Wen Huaixu walked in, and the room was filled with a rich fragrance, mixed with Yu Tingyu's unique scent, which wafted into Wen Huaixu's nose.

He subconsciously held his breath, but it was no use; the smell seemed to seep into his skin, melt into his blood, and flow throughout his body.

Yu Tingyu has really grown up, but it seems to have grown up too fast, making it a little hard for him to grasp. It's like he's floating in mid-air, and when he reaches out to touch him, it's just an ethereal illusion.

Wen Huaixu suppressed his emotions, sat down on the sofa, crossed his long legs, and looked up at her unhurriedly, asking, "What did you do this afternoon?"

Yu Tingyu removed her face mask and replied, "I went to the beach and a cafe with Sihe and the others. Later, we ran into Uncle Han and his daughter. His daughter is only three years old; she's so small and cute."

Uncle Han was the elder that Wen Huaixu had just met on his way to the seaside.

Wen Huaixu didn't react much, only asking, "Goed into the water?"

"No." Yu Tingyu shook her head: "You said you wouldn't let me go into the water."

"This time you're obedient." Wen Huaixu raised an eyebrow.

"Mingming has always been very obedient," Yu Tingyu muttered, clearly disagreeing with his statement.

Wen Huaixu smiled indulgently, patted the sofa next to him, and said in a low voice, "Come sit down."

Yu Tingyu obediently sat down beside him, looking at him intently, and heard him ask:

"Do you still want to stay somewhere else?"

Yu Tingyu was stunned for a moment. No matter what she said before, it was no use. Why did she suddenly change her mind?

Could it be...?

The moment that thought crossed her mind, her heart seemed to stop beating for a second. Yu Tingyu knew her smile was forced, but she couldn't pretend not to care: "Why did you suddenly ask that?"

Could it be that his relationship with Chen Xuning has taken another step forward?

Is her presence at home affecting their relationship?

"I've reconsidered," Wen Huaixu said, his long, slender fingers casually interlaced as he quietly looked at her. "It's not entirely impossible."

Yu Tingyu lowered her gaze, her long eyelashes concealing the darkness within her eyes. She didn't look at him, but simply asked, "So, what have you come to terms with?"

Ironically, when she had offered to move out and Wen Huaixu refused, she was filled with anger.

But now that he has finally given his word, Yu Tingyu feels a lump in her throat, and suddenly feels uneasy.

"When I'm too busy with school during the week, I can live near the school, but I have to go home on weekends."

This is Wen Huaixu's bottom line.

"I'll have Aunt Jing come and take care of you."

He seemed to have really thought it through. Aunt Jing was a maid in the old house, specially assigned to take care of Wen Huaixu, and she also took care of Yu Tingyu for nine years.

Hearing that her goal had been achieved, Yu Tingyu felt no joy at all.

But reason told her she had to accept it.

This is indeed what she wanted.

"Okay." Yu Tingyu nodded gently, looking at him with her bright, dark eyes. "Thank you, Second Brother."

As soon as she said that, Wen Huaixu could tell that she was unhappy. A hint of impatience flashed in his eyes. He really couldn't figure out what girls of this age were thinking.

He rubbed his fingertips together a couple of times, suddenly wanting a cigarette, but with Yu Tingyu still beside him, he had to put the thought aside.

Seeing that she had lowered her head again, Wen Huaixu asked helplessly, "Or do you have any thoughts of your own? Tell me."

He had misunderstood Yu Tingyu. As long as her wishes weren't too outrageous, he would grant them all.

Ke Yu Tingyu simply shook her head: "No, that's fine."

It's not good at all.

Her lips were almost pressed into a slit, which Wen Huaixu could see clearly.

He frowned slightly, his voice deepening: "Didn't I tell you that if you're not feeling well, you should speak up? How will others know what you're thinking if you don't speak up?"

Wen Huaixu considered himself to understand Yu Tingyu and to be the person who understood her best in the world, but her recent reactions left him uncertain and unable to figure her out.

Yu Tingyu remained silent, only watching his lips move as he spoke. He said a lot, but she seemed not to hear a word he said. Instead, her throat tightened, and she felt a heat rising from her body.

Even when I try to reason with her, her mind is wandering.

She really had a hard time holding back. Even though she saw Wen Huaixu every day, she couldn't help but keep her eyes on his back, and then secretly look away when he turned around.

Maintaining distance was her only option.

Yu Tingyu avoided his burning gaze: "No, nothing's wrong."

He was clearly still lying. Wen Huaixu wanted to say something more, but Yu Tingyu directly told him to leave.

"Second brother, you can go out first. I want to take a bath."

She feared that if he sat any longer, all her hidden thoughts would be seen through. In terms of depth of thought, she was ultimately no match for Wen Huaixu.

A few seconds after she finished speaking, Wen Huaixu still didn't move, but unexpectedly she grabbed his arm and practically pushed and shoved him to the door.

It was clear that Yu Tingyu was in a hurry and was really using force, while Wen Huaixu dared not use the same force against her and could only follow her force as he was pushed outside the door.

With a "bang," the door slammed shut.

The corridor lights were still on, falling on Wen Huaixu and casting a long shadow in front of the door. He frowned, his gaze fixed on the closed door.

A few seconds later, a barely audible deep laugh echoed in the air.

It's strange, but there were times when he was kicked out of the house.

Wen Huaixu just couldn't understand why he was still unhappy even though he had fulfilled Yu Tingyu's wish.

-

The next day, the weather was gloomy and the wind was strong at the beach, making it seem unsuitable for outdoor activities.

The group was all at the hotel. Chu Lingyu and Zhang Qi'an had arranged a gathering, but it seemed that only Wen Huaixu had arrived; the other juniors hadn't come.

"I told you they were afraid of Second Brother. Look, they don't dare to come anymore now that you're here."

This makes it sound like Wen Huaixu is some kind of monstrous flood.

Wen Huaixu remained silent, holding a cigarette between his fingers, gazing towards the door, lost in thought.

Zhang Qi'an glanced at him and immediately thought, "Did you two have another fight?"

Wen Huaixu slowly exhaled the smoke from his mouth: "It doesn't count."

It wasn't an argument, but I can't quite describe the feeling.

It is a slow and gentle form of torture.

The knife landed on his body, but no wound could be found; yet there was a painful sensation of skin being torn open.

It's more like the awkwardness that only couples have, the kind of awkwardness that they can't express.

Couple.

The moment the word came out, Wen Huaixu held his breath, and the hand holding the cigarette trembled slightly.

How did he come up with this word?
