The room was dimly lit and filled with the faint, warm fragrance of Song Qintang. Wu Haoqi tripped over something and stumbled.

He groped in the dark and kicked.

Song Qintang was startled awake by the noise, followed by the bright light shining from above, making it hard for her to open her eyes.

Slender, white fingers covered her eyes.

Wu Haoqi quietly watched Song Qintang, who had been startled awake and sat up in bed. She was without makeup, had just woken up from her sleep, and her eyes were still blurry, her appearance pure and untouched by worldly concerns.

As Jianjia said, she was using a feigned retreat to attract his attention.

And she did indeed do it.

He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, took the dress out of the bag, and spread it on her legs through the blanket: "The dress is ready for you. Come to the banquet with me on Saturday."

After waking up, Song Qintang's slightly red eyes finally adjusted to the bright light, but her heart was still pounding from the loud noise.

She looked down at the dress spread out on the quilt. She didn't need to ask to know that Long Jianjia had chosen it for her, in order to remind her of some long-buried pain in her heart.

She disliked, even hated, the bright purple color.

One year on her birthday, she prepared a cake, but Wu Haoqi spent the whole day playing with Long Jianjia instead.

When she returned, Long Jianjia gave her one of the dark purple dresses that she had received as part of her shopping list.

Of course, Song Qintang didn't know this before; it was Long Jianjia who told her and mocked her, saying that she was only fit to pick up what Song Qintang didn't want.

She didn't bring this matter to Wu Haoqi's attention.

Even if she made a scene, Wu Haoqi would only think that she was making trouble out of nothing.

She silently put it at the bottom of the box, as if nothing had happened.

She never celebrated her birthday again after that, and of course, no one remembered it.

Looking at the meaningful, deep purple dress in her hand, Song Qintang folded it and put it in the shopping bag. Then she looked at Wu Haoqi and said, "I don't like this color."

"And the size is also from Longjianjia."

"I have other things to do on Saturday, Mr. Wu, why don't you take Jianjia with you instead?"

Wu Haoqi looked at Song Qintang in confusion: "Jianjia specially picked this out for you, why don't you like it? Haven't I seen you wear this color before?"

"You used to like her, but you don't anymore. I think you're just deliberately targeting Jianjia!"

Wu Haoqi had originally intended to coax her a little, but once Long Jianjia was mentioned, he lost patience with her and stopped playing any tricks of feigning retreat.

"Because that dark purple dress was one that Long Jianjia didn't want given to me. Does Mr. Wu need me to say anything more?"

Wu Haoqi sighed, he hadn't expected her to find out about this.

But he didn't think it was a big deal. That dark purple dress was a bonus item he got through a purchase, but Long Jianjia had never worn it before.

"If you really don't like it, I'll give you something else after the banquet. Don't let Jianjia's kindness go to waste!"

As expected, even if she didn't like it, Wu Haoqi wouldn't take her to change it, simply because it was Long Jianjia's choice, and he wouldn't give Long Jianjia any chance to be sad.

As he finished speaking, his gaze fell upon Song Qintang, but he was unconsciously drawn to the fair skin on her slender shoulders.

His eyes couldn't help but linger with greed.

Even though he was covered by a blanket, he still remembered Song Qintang's exquisite curves and the delicate, silky touch that made his heart flutter.

Even though they didn't have many intimate moments, Song Qintang's body was indeed something he was obsessed with.

He swallowed hard, his voice hoarse, a dark undercurrent of desire in his eyes: "Be good, and I can give you a child. Once you have a child, you won't have these wild thoughts anymore."

As Wu Haoqi spoke, he reached out to touch Song Qintang's face.

Before he could even feel the tender warmth he had imagined, Song Qintang had already subtly dodged it. Wu Haoqi's fingertips froze in mid-air as he frowned at Song Qintang.

She never used to hide.

Song Qintang had heard countless such condescending tones, as if it were a favor that he could speak to her.

For her, married life was an immense blessing.

But now he is no longer her everything.

If you don't even want a man, why would you want a child?

She was afraid that Wu Haoqi's children would inherit his bad habits when they grew up.

Song Qintang looked down, rubbing her forehead in disgust. "President Wu, it's not appropriate for us to discuss this now."

"And I don't think that the arrival of a child will change anything between us."

After speaking, Song Qintang lowered her hand, raised her eyes to look at Wu Haoqi, and said in her usual indifferent and aloof voice, "I do have something to do on Saturday."

"I have never forced you to do anything, and please respect my wishes."

"You can bring Long Jianjia to the Gu family banquet; I support you!"

"As for our matter, you can talk to me directly. Please don't bother Director Yang anymore, because I've never discussed our private affairs with your superiors or colleagues!"

"Put yourself in my shoes. If I used your superior's influence to pressure you, could you accept it?"

"Mr. Wu may need some time to consider the divorce. I won't bother you, and I ask for your peace and quiet!"

Wu Haoqi paused abruptly, looking at Song Qintang's calm eyes with a complicated expression.

He went to see Director Yang because she was disobedient, and he couldn't do anything about it.

Why is she blaming him? They are different. As a husband, it is only right for him to go to Director Yang, but as a wife, how can Song Qintang disregard his future and go to his superior?

Not only did she threaten him, but she also told him not to bother her?

He thought he must have misheard.

Wu Haoqi found it utterly ridiculous to hear such words from Song Qintang.

His patience wore thin. He stood up, shaking his head in disappointment, "Song Qintang, I'm giving you a way out. Don't be ungrateful."

"You think you can threaten me? Go find my superiors, do you have the ability? Do you still think you're some kind of young lady from the Song family? If you continue to be so ungrateful, don't blame me for going directly to your department head!"

Song Qintang felt only sorrow. This was the person she had chosen to share her bed with; he always managed to pinpoint the most hurtful words.

During those three years, everyone in the hospital knew about her situation, but even though she was mistreated, she never publicly said a bad word about him.

But he trampled on her dignity at will!

"good!"

The simple word "good" already conveyed her exhaustion; she had endured for so long that her rebellious streak was slowly growing.

"I may lack the skills, but I have the internet!"

Song Qintang rarely spoke harshly, but her words hit the mark perfectly.

Wu Haoqi stared at her coldly for a long time, watching her pretentious act. He clenched his fist, sneered, and stepped back before turning and leaving.

Song Qintang watched Wu Haoqi's departing figure as he forcefully slammed the wooden door shut.

Actually, she wanted to do things in a respectable manner.

He needs time, and she can give him time.

But now it seems that the dignity she desires may not come to pass.

She lay back down on the bed. The night at the Wu family's house was too dark, too cold, and too unbearable.

Just as she closed her eyes, Wu Haoqi's clear and powerful footsteps echoed in Long Jianjia's room...

Not just footsteps, but also...
