Just then, a mountain breeze passed between the two of them.

Shi Luyu looked at him for a long time, then suddenly laughed: "Brother knows so much."

"You only realized that now?" Xu Yuanjia raised an eyebrow, clearly quite pleased with her praise.

A mountain breeze blew in from the other end of the field, ruffling his thick, black, fluffy hair. His already exceptionally handsome face appeared even more flamboyant in the interplay of light and shadow.

Shi Luyu looked up at him for a few seconds, as if she was really thinking seriously, "I only knew you were bad before."

"Oh?" The man lowered his eyes, a lazy smile still playing on his lips. "And now?"

"Now..." she deliberately dragged out the sound.

Xu Yuanjia didn't urge her, but just lowered his eyes and waited for her, even leaning down slightly to look like he was listening attentively.

Shi Luyu suppressed a laugh until the expectation in the man's eyes became increasingly obvious, then slowly finished the second half of her sentence:

"I've discovered you're both wicked and narcissistic."

The air was silent for a moment.

"Stone, dew, jade."

Xu Yuanjia narrowed his eyes and called her name slowly and deliberately.

The girl was prepared. Before he could reach out, she smiled and dodged behind her, her high ponytail swinging lightly in an arc behind her head, and then she turned and ran.

"You'd better run faster."

The man stood still, not in a hurry to chase after her. He lazily put his hands into the pockets of his windbreaker and watched the light yellow figure run further and further away.

He finally chuckled softly, looking down. "I'll cry again if I get caught."

"No way!" Shi Luyu turned around and made a face at him.

In that instant, it felt as if she had truly returned to the past.

Before she knew who he was or that the name "Xu Jia" was stolen, she would deliberately provoke him, laugh and run away after angering him, and be certain that he would never really be angry with her.

Xu Yuanjia had obviously thought of that as well.

He didn't chase after her immediately, but just stood there, watching the girl's high ponytail sway with her steps, watching her smile with her eyes crinkling, her light yellow windbreaker moving through the lush green forest.

The casual smile in the man's eyes gradually softened.

It had been a long time since he'd seen her like this. So long that he'd almost forgotten that Shi Luyu had always been like this in front of him.

She laughs, makes a fuss, and clings to him, calling him "brother."

Instead of thinking about how to escape from him every time she looks back.

Xu Yuanjia's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, but in the end he said nothing. He simply took long strides and slowly chased after her.

When Shi Luyu saw him coming, she smiled and ran a few steps forward.

But in the few seconds that she turned around and completely turned her back to him, the bright smile on her lips faded silently for a moment.

It was as fast as a cloud that swept across the mountaintop.

The next second, Xu Yuanjia caught up from behind and grabbed her waist.

Shi Luyu exclaimed and laughed.

"Gotcha." The man's deep, pleased voice rang in her ear.

He pulled her into his arms, and she smiled again, "Brother is being a liar."

The mountain breeze rustled the hem of their clothes.

In the distance, the sky, which had been bright just moments before, had been completely swallowed up by large swathes of gray-blue clouds.

The rain still hadn't started.

The atmosphere afterwards was so relaxed it was almost like a real date.

Xu Yuanjia didn't rush her to continue; instead, he personally demonstrated once first.

Shi Luyu stood to the side, watching intently.

When a man gets into the zone, he becomes a completely different person than usual.

He is usually lazy, has no proper posture when standing, and when sitting, he will lean back rather than sit up straight.

Even his speech often has a drawn-out tone.

But when you really get serious, all your laxity disappears in a very short time.

Only an extremely quiet focus remained.

Shi Luyu knew that Xu Yuanjia was powerful before, but knowing it was completely different from seeing it with her own eyes.

Several sounds echoed along the valley, but the results on the electronic screen remained almost perfectly stable, almost frighteningly so.

He handed the items to a staff member nearby and walked towards her. "How is it?"

Shi Luyu readily agreed, saying, "Very handsome."

Xu Yuanjia raised an eyebrow. "Anything else?"

"sharp."

"besides."

"That's all."

"Tsk." The man walked up to her and pinched her cheek. "Little thing, trying to fool me."

Shi Luyu finally managed to salvage her face and rubbed it.

Then suddenly she stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the chin.

Xu Yuanjia stopped abruptly, the casual smile in his eyes seemed to vanish from her presence, and he lowered his eyes, staring at her for a full two seconds.

He then pressed his tongue against his cheek, turned his head and chuckled softly, as if he had been coaxed into a comfortable state, or as if he was helpless against her for the moment, the joy in his eyes was so intense that he could not hide it.

Shi Luyu had already retreated, and asked with a smile, "And now?"

The man stared at her. "..."

"Still giving me the runaround?"

"Come here." With that, Xu Yuanjia made a gesture as if to bend down and kiss her.

"No!" Shi Luyu turned and ran.

A mountain breeze swept across the area, and suddenly a flock of birds, some unknown species, took flight from the treetops in the distance, a dark mass, flapping their wings and soaring through the gray-blue sky.

Several staff members looked up simultaneously. "Is it going to rain?"

"The forecast says this afternoon."

"These clouds came so fast."

As soon as he finished speaking, a muffled thunderclap faintly echoed from afar, rumbling across the mountains.

But the two people in the center of the shooting range seemed not to have heard a thing.

When it was Shi Luyu's turn to practice again, Xu Yuanjia resumed his role as the teacher.

This time, she was no longer faced with the simulation equipment used in indoor training.

A mountain breeze blew in from the end of the open shooting lane, carrying the humid and rich scent of tropical rainforest vegetation. Dark clouds had already covered half of the mountain, obscuring the sunlight intermittently. In the distance, the layers of tree canopies sank into a deep green, and occasionally an unknown bird would be startled from the forest, flapping its wings and skimming over the low-pressure clouds.

When Shi Luyu stood in front of the firing position, she was noticeably quieter than before.

Xu Yuanjia stopped teasing her. He stood beside her, checked her protective gear again, and then gently brushed away the stray hairs that were pinned down by the edge of her goggles.

Behind the clear lenses, the girl's bright, dark brown eyes shone through. She was clearly a little nervous, and even blinked at him, trying to appear calm.

Xu Yuanjia saw right through him. "Nervous?"

"A little," Shi Luyu said honestly this time, without trying to be defiant.

The man's lips curled into a half-smile, and he gently tapped her earmuff twice. "Don't be afraid, brother won't let anything happen to Lulu."

Shi Luyu calmed down a bit, nodded, and looked into the distance again.

Standing in an outdoor live-fire range is a completely different experience from watching Hsu Yuan-chia demonstrate from a distance.

The wind brushed against my cheeks, and the distant target stood alone amidst the vast expanse of deep green forest.

Even though she had practiced it many times before, her shoulders and back still tensed up unconsciously when she actually stood here.

Xu Yuanjia saw her, walked up behind her, and said, "Lulu."

The man placed his palm on her shoulder and pressed down gently. "Relax here."

Shi Luyu relaxed as instructed, but tensed up again in less than two seconds.

Xu Yuanjia: "..."

"I can't control myself." She realized it herself.

Xu Yuanjia looked down at her, his expression serious. "It's okay, it's always like this the first time."

He paused, then added in a low voice, "Don't be so hard on yourself."

Shi Luyu looked at him and felt inexplicably at ease. "Then don't stay too far away from me."

Xu Yuanjia's eyebrows twitched slightly. "Okay."

He stood diagonally behind her. "Brother, don't leave."

Shi Luyu took a deep breath and looked ahead again.

The surroundings gradually quieted down.

She was still recalling what Xu Yuanjia had taught her before.

The next second—

boom!

The first gunshot rang out without warning.

A tremendous sound suddenly echoed out along the empty mountain valley.

Shi Luyu's mind went blank for a moment.

What truly caught her off guard was the recoil that followed.

She was completely unaccustomed to it the first time. Her body instinctively leaned back, her center of gravity instantly went off, and she staggered, almost falling backward.

"Ah—" The short exclamation had barely left his lips.

Xu Yuanjia felt a sudden tightening around his waist and moved almost simultaneously.

The man, who had been standing diagonally behind her, seemed to have anticipated this, and quickly reached his long arm across her waist from behind, pulling her back.

Shi Luyu's back slammed solidly into his chest. "Brother!"

"Brother is here." The deep voices came down almost simultaneously.

Xu Yuanjia held her waist firmly with one hand, and used the other hand to steady her in time, telling her to stop, "Don't move."

Shi Luyu didn't dare to do anything reckless; that last scare had clearly frightened her quite a bit.

The earmuffs blocked out most of the outside noise; she could only hear her own rapid breathing and her heart pounding.

Xu Yuanjia lowered his head and immediately saw her wide-open eyes through the transparent goggles.

His originally serious face finally gave way.

The corners of the man's eyes curved up little by little.

Shi Luyu: "..."

She understood immediately. "Are you laughing at me?"

Xu Yuanjia pressed down on the corners of his lips. "No."

"You have!"

"Your brother is too worried about you to even think about it."

You were clearly smiling.

The man's Adam's apple bobbed twice, and he finally let out a low chuckle.

Shi Luyu was instantly enraged and embarrassed. She turned around and shoved him in the chest, "You're still laughing!"

"Alright, alright." Xu Yuanjia let her push him a couple of times.

Seeing that the girl was really angry, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back, saying, "Brother was wrong."

Xu Yuanjia's lips were indeed still slightly upturned. Hearing this, he simply lowered his head and gently touched the top edge of her goggles with his forehead.

"Because Lulu was so cute just now."

The tension from before gradually dissipated as the two chatted and laughed.

Xu Yuanjia waited until she recovered before asking, "Shall we continue?"

Shi Luyu looked down at her hands, then looked up into the distance.

The mountain breeze blew her high ponytail.

After a few seconds of silence, she nodded. "Yes."

Xu Yuanjia glanced at her. "Are you sure?"

"Confirmed." Shi Luyu paused, then reached out and grabbed the cuff of his dark blue windbreaker.

Her voice softened, "But my brother has to stand in the back."

"What if I fall again?"

The man looked down at her hand gripping his sleeve.

The smile in his eyes softened almost instantly. "You won't fall."

Xu Yuanjia walked back behind her, "Brother will catch you."

This time, he stood even closer than before.

The dark blue windbreaker almost clung to the girl's light yellow shoulders and back.

Xu Yuanjia leaned down slightly to help her readjust her posture, while his other hand gently protected her waist.

Shi Luyu felt the warmth of the body behind her, and the tension she had felt earlier inexplicably dissipated.

Dark clouds in the distance pressed down even lower into the valley.

Vast tracts of tropical rainforest rippled in the wind, creating waves of varying shades of green.

Standing within the protective embrace of Xu Yuanjia, Shi Luyu gazed into the distance once more.

This time, the girl was clearly more composed than before.

Xu Yuanjia never left; he stood behind her, patiently to the point of indulgence.

Watching her gradually become familiar with marksmanship, gradually lose her fear, and gradually be able to withstand the recoil of the gun on her own.

And little by little, he learned to master what was originally his.

During the lunch break, the sky became completely overcast.

The two did not return to the main building. There was a semi-open mountain-view rest area next to the private area.

The canopy extends very far out, with no walls on three sides, facing directly onto the continuous rainforest.

The staff prepared lunch.

Xu Yuanjia sat on the sofa. Shi Luyu didn't sit opposite him. Instead, she hugged her juice and squeezed next to him. "Brother, give me a sip."

Xu Yuanjia followed her gaze, raising an eyebrow slightly: "Aren't they the same?"

"no the same."

"What's different?"

"Yours looks tastier." Shi Luyu sat next to him, but her gaze was fixed on his plate with an air of self-righteousness, as if other people's food was inherently more delicious.

Xu Yuanjia didn't say anything, first looking at his own things, then at hers.

They are clearly the same thing.

But he seemed too lazy to reason with her. He placed his long fingers on the edge of the plate and pushed his entire portion in front of her.

"It's all yours."

Shi Luyu paused for a moment, then her eyes crinkled into a smile. "I'll just have one bite."

"eat."

"And what about you?"

Xu Yuanjia leaned back lazily on the sofa, stretching his long legs out casually, and turned his face to look at her. The dim mountain light streamed in, casting a soft glow on his fluffy black hair.

He answered matter-of-factly, "Your brother is watching you eat."

Shi Luyu pursed her lips, lowered her head, picked up a small piece and put it in her mouth, chewing slowly. After a while, she looked up at him again: "Why are you like this?"

Xu Yuanjia, who had been watching her eat, raised an eyebrow upon hearing this: "How so?"

"They really treat me like a child."

Shi Luyu complained, but her body language betrayed her. She had somehow moved from her own position to his side, and their shoulders were almost touching.

Xu Yuanjia lowered his eyes and glanced at that short distance.

It wasn't exposed.

Instead, he leaned deeper into the sofa, casually placing his arm on the back of the chair behind her, and slowly corrected, "Not a child."

"What is that?"

He turned his head to the side. "It's about supporting a wife."

Shi Luyu paused for a moment as she picked up something, a warmth creeping up her ears.

She kept her head down, pretending to be nonchalant as she continued eating, and retorted in a low voice, "Who's your wife?"

"It's only a matter of time." The man's tone was languid, yet undeniably confident.

Shi Luyu finally raised her eyes and glared at him: "I didn't agree."

"Hmm." Xu Yuanjia surprisingly nodded in agreement.

The girl was taken aback for a moment.

The next second, he added unhurriedly, "So my brother is still chasing after him."

Shi Luyu was speechless.

Xu Yuanjia, however, kept looking at her and smiling.

She simply ignored him, lowered her head and continued eating, but the corners of her mouth remained slightly curved, no matter how hard she tried to suppress it.

Just then, the phone on the table suddenly vibrated.

hum-

A short, sharp vibration broke the banter between the two.

Xu Yuanjia glanced down at the screen; it was a work phone.

He glanced at it only once before looking away, clearly not intending to take it.

Shi Luyu noticed, "You answer it."

"It's not important." Xu Yuanjia reached out and pushed the juice that was about to slide to the edge of the table back in, his expression nonchalant.

The phone is still vibrating

Shi Luyu glanced at him, then looked at him again: "What if something happens?"

Xu Yuanjia didn't even touch his phone. He was clearly determined to ignore everything today. He wrapped his long arm around her from behind and pulled her closer to him.

"I'll spend time with you today." Four simple words.

Shi Luyu raised her hand and pushed his chest, "Go quickly."

"I'm going to the restroom right now," Shi Luyu said, getting up. "You go ahead and do your work."

With that, she turned and left, her steps slow.

Only after they had passed the rest area and were completely out of his sight did the smile on their faces slowly recede like the tide.

Shi Luyu stopped in front of the sink outside the restroom.

A young and beautiful face was reflected in the mirror. The faint blush on her cheeks from chatting and laughing with Xu Yuanjia earlier still lingered, and she looked no different from before.

Just then, my phone suddenly vibrated.

Shi Luyu looked down and saw the screen light up.

An unfamiliar number without a contact name.

There were only two short messages.

She hesitated for a moment, then finally clicked.

The plan to hunt down Xu Yuanjia begins.

Be brave, little girl. Forget about your feelings, be resolute, and don't look back.
