What's wrong with me, a school principal, listening to students' suggestions?
Chapter 104: The Max-Level Boss's Re-entry into the Newbie Village and His Antics
"But our achievements speak for themselves, who can say anything about it?"
Su Qingyan's voice carried a hint of stubbornness.
"Grades can shut people up, but they can't stop everyone's thoughts." Teacher Bi put her hands behind her back again. "It's hard to say, hard to say."
He didn't spell it out clearly, but Su Qingyan already understood.
Liu Jianguo's downfall does not mean that the 13th Middle School will be at peace from now on.
The nail that sticks out gets hammered down, and No. 13 Middle School is now that highest-flying bird.
"Teacher Bi..." Su Qingyan wanted to say something to comfort the old man.
"Alright, alright, I've been sitting on the bus the whole way, my back is stiff." Teacher Bi waved her hand, a smile returning to her face, and then changed her tone, "Quickly take me to see your Principal Lin."
Su Qingyan put aside her thoughts and led Teacher Bi towards the administration building.
Upon reaching the second floor, the door to the principal's office was ajar.
Lin Yucai's voice could be heard coming from inside, as if he were on the phone.
Su Qingyan knocked twice on the door and then went inside.
Lin Yucai was sitting behind his desk, holding his phone in one hand and flipping through a stack of construction progress sheets with the other.
Seeing Su Qingyan bring an elderly man in, he quickly hung up the phone and stood up.
"Principal Lin, this is Teacher Bi from Bishan High School," Su Qingyan introduced. "He's a senior figure in the education field, a teacher who has dedicated his life to teaching and has compiled several textbooks."
She paused for a moment, then added, "I can vouch for Teacher Bi's teaching ability; there's no need for an interview process."
Bi Shangao was smiling as he looked around the small office.
Upon hearing Su Qingyan's last words, the old man's eyebrows immediately shot up.
What does it mean to skip the interview process?
Su Qingyan was taken aback.
"Does your school have an evaluation process when hiring teachers?"
Bi Shangao turned to Lin Yucai and asked with a serious expression.
"Yes, we will arrange a trial lecture."
Lin Yucai glanced at Su Qingyan, then at the sprightly old man in front of him, and nodded.
"Then let me give a trial lecture too!" Bi Shangao slapped his thigh. "Why should other teachers have to be tested, but I don't? That's not fair."
Su Qingyan's lips twitched slightly: "Teacher Bi, your qualifications..."
"Qualifications are qualifications, and classroom teaching is classroom teaching."
Bi Shangao waved his hand, his tone revealing a childlike stubbornness.
"What if I don't speak well? What if the students don't like me? You have to give students the right to choose."
After he finished speaking, he turned to look at Lin Yucai, his eyes sparkling.
"Principal Lin, are you saying that students are the judges during the interviews here?"
Lin Yucai was amused by the question: "That's true."
Bi Shangao straightened his back. "I just want the students to judge and see if this old geezer can still stand on the podium."
Lin Yucai sized up the old man in front of him.
With graying hair and a slender build, he wore a simple white polo shirt.
But those eyes were very clear, and there was something in them that he rarely saw in other veteran teachers.
A kind of eager excitement.
"Okay." Lin Yucai smiled. "If Teacher Bi wants to give a trial lecture, then we'll arrange it."
"But students are on summer vacation today, so there aren't many on campus." He glanced at the calendar on the wall. "How about tomorrow morning? I'll have Zhang Yang and a few others come over to be judges."
"Okay!" Bi Shangao agreed immediately, decisively and readily.
Su Qingyan stood to the side, watching the seventy-year-old man clench his fists like a boxer about to step into the ring, and couldn't help but shake her head.
The old rascal truly lives up to his name.
"Professor Bi, which subject would you like to teach?" Lin Yucai asked.
What subject are you lacking?
"We're missing Chinese, math, and English," Su Qingyan chimed in.
Bi Shangao squinted and thought for a moment: "Then tell me everything."
Lin Yucai and Su Qingyan were both stunned.
"A class is forty-five minutes long, fifteen minutes for Chinese, fifteen minutes for math, and fifteen minutes for English," Bi Shangao counted on his fingers. "Exactly."
Lin Yucai looked at Su Qingyan, and Su Qingyan looked at him as well.
The same message was written in their eyes...
This old man doesn't seem to have any good intentions.
"Okay, we'll do it your way." Lin Yucai pulled out a chair. "Teacher Bi, please have a seat and a cup of tea."
"I won't drink the tea." Bi Shangao stood in the middle of the office, his gaze suddenly falling on the building under construction outside the window. "What's that being built over there?"
"Research building".
How big?
"Three floors, twelve standard laboratories."
Bi Shangao walked to the window and looked out for a long time.
"Principal Lin," he said without turning around, his voice softening, "do you know why I came here?"
Lin Yucai remained silent, waiting for him to continue.
"I have taught all my life and have taught thousands of students."
Bi Shangao turned around, his expression calm.
"But most schools treat students as data."
"What is the percentage of students admitted to top-tier universities, 985 universities, and Tsinghua and Peking Universities?"
"When the numbers look good, the leaders are happy, and the teachers' performance improves."
"As for whether the students are happy, whether they live a tiring life, or what kind of people they will become... no one cares."
He looked at Lin Yucai.
"I've watched your videos online for six months and I've found that your school is different."
"The cafeteria, the e-sports arena, the open classes, the students as judges... everything you do is based on these kids themselves."
"That's why I came."
Bi Shangao smiled.
"I've been retired for almost ten years, but I'm really itching to teach a few more classes."
The office fell silent.
"Welcome to No. 13 Middle School, Teacher Bi."
Lin Yucai stood up and earnestly extended his right hand towards Bi Shangao.
"Don't rush, don't rush." Bi Shangao didn't reach out, but instead took a step back. "We'll talk about it after you pass the trial lecture tomorrow."
"What if the student gives me a zero?"
As he said this, the corners of his mouth turned up high, and his eyes were full of undisguised anticipation.
Looking at the old man and the young girl, Su Qingyan suddenly felt that this summer vacation at No. 13 Middle School was probably going to be lively again.
