She refused to marry.

Chapter 35 Prosperity Chapter 35

The Su family has a few more members, making it quite lively.

Especially after Su Jinning arrived, she got together with Su Yaoyue and Su Zhiyin, making so much noise that even the sparrows in the yard got tired of it and moved away.

The three of them rushed into Su Xian's courtyard, causing complete chaos.

Su Jinse of the West Chamber was a quiet person who spent her days studying cosmetics and practicing music, chess, calligraphy, and painting.

Zhao hired a tutor for her, who came to the mansion to teach every day.

That day, Lu Huai'an came to find her. Su Wanwan was at Zhiyuan Pavilion, watching Su Jinning teach her third sister to ride a horse.

"Who is this person? He's come to our door four or five times in just half a month," Su Yaoyue asked curiously.

"A salt merchant, with whom I have some business dealings," Su Wanwan replied.

"I've seen her before, she's so pretty, and she even brought me lots of food." Su Zhiyin moved closer to her sister, "Second sister, you definitely won't skimp on me today."

"Greedy." Su Wanwan held her little hand.

The two walked to the door and saw Lu Huai'an standing there in a white robe, surrounded by a clear breeze and bright moon.

"Brother Lu!" Su Zhiyin greeted him.

Lu Huai'an took the food box from the carriage. "This is for you."

"Thank you, Brother Lu." Su Zhiyin took the food box, opened it, and exclaimed, "Wow, it's sweet beans! I love them the most!"

"You've spoiled her with your words, making her quite picky," Su Wanwan said, patting Zhiyin's head.

"It's only right that I visit after so long."

Suddenly, a series of "tsk tsk" sounds came from behind.

Su Wanwan turned around and saw four heads standing at the door watching the show.

Su Xian pressed down on Su Jinning's shoulder and whistled at Lu Huai'an.

Su Jinse's gaze fell on Lu Huai'an's face, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.

"You've met Yaoyue before. These three are from Third Uncle's family. The one with the fan is Su Jinse, and the two in front are twins, Su Xian and Su Jinning, who are very mischievous." Su Wanwan turned to her sisters and said, "This is Lu Huai'an, Young Master Lu."

"Oh, Young Master Lu~~"

Everyone sighed in unison.

"Hey, don't do anything reckless." Su Wanwan gestured angrily.

"Yes, yes." Su Xian joked, shoving her sisters inside, then turning back to say, "Young Master Lu~~"

"Go in!" Su Wanwan waved her fist.

Lu Huai'an smiled indulgently, "Why didn't you tell me you had guests? We didn't prepare enough today."

"Don't make a fuss, it wouldn't be good if Father and Mother misunderstood," Su Wanwan said, bowing her head.

"What misunderstanding?" Lu Huai'an asked with a mischievous grin.

"Nothing. What have you been busy with lately? I never see you." Su Wanwan looked up at him, shielding her eyes from the glaring sunlight with her hand.

Lu Huai'an lowered his eyes: "The Crown Prince of Changxin has come to the capital. I'm busy handing over the account books from last time to him."

Su Wanwan's eyes lit up: "I heard that you live in the Changxin Prince's Mansion?"

"Yes." Lu Huai'an nodded. "I work at his residence."

Su Wanwan nodded, fiddling with the jade pendant tassel at her waist: "Then you must be careful. The Crown Prince and Lord Fengchen are eyeing Prince Changxin covetously; you mustn't get caught in the crossfire."

Lu Huai'an's lips curved slightly: "It's alright. Although the young master is weak, he is surrounded by many experts."

"Weak?" Su Wanwan looked up at him. "Prince Changxin is far to the north, constantly at war. Although it's remote there, how could people who are constantly on the battlefield be weak?"

She moved closer to Lu Huai'an, her voice softening slightly: "I guess the young master is returning to the capital this time to do something big."

Lu Huai'an's hand tightened, but his expression remained calm: "What's the big deal?"

Su Wanwan gave him a sly smile: "Of course you'll come back to get married and have children!"

Lu Huai'an shook his head helplessly: "Don't talk nonsense."

Su Wanwan stopped laughing: "Now the Crown Prince is incompetent, and the Eldest Princess is making the court unstable in order to control the court."

Prince Changxin is ambitious; how could he be content to remain in the northern border? The Crown Prince's return is naturally to obtain something that can command an army.

Lu Huai'an glanced at her; there was no hint of a joke in her eyes.

He suddenly realized that this woman was much smarter than he had imagined.

"How did you figure that out?"

Su Wanwan blinked: "Just guessing. That's how it's written in storybooks."

Lu Huai'an stared at her for a couple of moments, then suddenly smiled.

"Su Wanwan," he called her name.

"Hmm?" Su Wanwan shielded her eyes from the sun with her sleeve.

After waiting for a long time, I still didn't hear the second half of his sentence.

Out of the corner of her eye, she felt Lu Huai'an's gaze linger on her face for a long time.

This feeling made her somewhat uncomfortable; she felt like prey locked in a trap by a hunter.

"Wanwan." Lu Huai'an called her name again, this time more gently than before.

"Um?"

"Don't say those things to others casually in the future."

Su Wanwan tilted her head: "What words?"

Lu Huai'an glared at her, then flicked her nose. "It's too sunny today, I won't take you out to play. Let's go home."

"Yes, it's really inconvenient to go out in this sun." Su Wanwan turned and went back into the mansion.

Chunhua was waiting at the door. When she saw her come in, she leaned over and asked, "Miss, what did Young Master Lu say to you? He talked for so long."

"It's nothing." Su Wanwan walked inside, then stopped after a couple of steps. "Chunhua."

"Um?"

"Tell me, how could a salt merchant who works for the prince have that kind of look in his eyes?"

Chunhua looked bewildered: "What kind of look is that?"

Su Wanwan didn't answer, waved her hand, and headed towards Jinxiu Hall.

The way Lu Huai'an looked at her just now seemed like he was weighing something.

As if weighing her in one's heart.

She just wanted to tell Lu Huai'an that if he followed the male lead of the future and did great things, he would definitely get promoted and become rich.

Su Wanwan found Su Xian and had just stepped into the inner courtyard when she heard Su Jinse's voice, "She's just a lowly merchant, what's there to ask about?"

"Young Master Lu is such a handsome man. Even if he's a lowly merchant, if Sister Wan likes him, we like him too." Su Jinning tickled Su Yaoyue's waist when she wasn't paying attention.

The two started arguing again.

Su Wanwan turned back and went to Su Xian's room, took the scriptures he had copied the night before, got into the carriage, and headed to the Princess's residence.

We entered the East Garden.

Su Wanwan entered the study.

She happened to run into a guard who was reporting something to Feng Chenjun. When he saw her, their conversation came to an abrupt halt.

Su Wanwan wisely withdrew.

"Come in," Xiao Xuanjing said calmly.

A guard came to report that she was associating with the men of Prince Changxin, and that he didn't know what kind of trouble she was doing.

The guard withdrew.

Su Wanwan went inside and placed the scriptures in front of the emperor.

Xiao Xuanjing watched for a while.

"Did you write this?" Xiao Xuanjing finally spoke, his voice devoid of emotion.

"Yes." Su Wanwan nodded, her voice full of conviction.

Xiao Xuanjing turned the folded book around and pushed it in front of her, pointing to one of the lines with his fingertip: "What's the pronunciation of this character?"

Su Wanwan leaned closer to take a look.

She recognized it; it was the traditional form of the character "羡".

"What about this one?" Xiao Xuanjing pointed to another character next to the signature.

Su Wanwan's eyes widened in surprise.

Su Xian, you're a pig! Who copies scriptures and even writes a signature?!
