She refused to marry.

Chapter 23 Prosperity Chapter 23

Su Wanwan followed Feng Chenjun to the teahouse.

Xiao Xuanjing ordered a pot of tea and sat on the dock, slowly sipping it.

Su Wanwan was still shaken by what had just happened. She drank several cups of tea before her mood calmed down a bit.

"Thank you, Your Majesty." She owed Feng Chenjun another debt.

"It seems like nothing good ever comes from whenever I see Miss Su."

Xiao Xuanjing's expression remained calm, but a hint of displeasure flickered in his eyes.

Su Wanwan gripped the teacup tightly, her almond-shaped eyes slightly raised. She racked her brains several times, but couldn't come up with a suitable word.

She always seems to have bad luck whenever she meets Feng Chenjun.

Now she has an even bigger question.

Why would Lord Fengchen appear in Linqing if he had nothing to do?

Could it be that he doesn't trust the Su family and came to supervise them himself?

I looked down and swirled the teacup, watching the tea leaves at the bottom of the cup spread out and then fall back down.

She looked up and examined it carefully.

Completely clueless.

Jian Qingshan walked out of the teahouse, followed by Su Hongsheng. He staggered and sweat beaded on his forehead.

When Su Hongsheng saw from afar that Su Wanwan was unharmed, his heart finally settled down.

Upon entering the teahouse, he knelt before Feng Chenjun, saying, "Thank you for your help, Your Majesty."

Feng Chenjun waved his hand, signaling him to stand up, his expression calm. "Did Magistrate Su send you on this errand?"

"Yes, Your Majesty." Su Hongsheng stood up respectfully to the side.

Seeing this, Su Wanwan also got up and walked behind her third uncle, avoiding Feng Chenjun's gaze.

"How confident are you?" Xiao Xuanjing placed his hand on the table, tapping his fingers rhythmically.

"The entire Su family is tied up here, so we dare not neglect them," Su Hongsheng said with a slight bow.

"If this matter is handled well, the Princess will reward you handsomely." Xiao Xuanjing picked up his teacup, took a sip, and glanced meaningfully at Su Wanwan. "You're taking her with you?"

"Your Majesty, Wanwan hasn't been back to Suzhou for quite some time. This time, we're just taking her back to keep Grandmother company." Su Hongsheng's shoulders and back were taut.

"It's time to find a reliable person to teach him properly." Xiao Xuanjing stood up, walked to the entrance of the teahouse, and prepared to leave.

Su Wanwan bowed and said, "Thank you, Your Majesty."

Xiao Xuanjing's thin lips curved slightly, but the smile in his eyes didn't reach its full extent. "It would be best if Miss Su never sees me again after this departure."

After saying that, he led the group toward the dock.

Su Wanwan was both angry and annoyed.

After all, it was the emperor who saved them just now, so they could only swallow their anger.

Turning back to talk to his third uncle, he noticed that his back was soaked with sweat. "Third Uncle, I'm sorry to have worried you."

Su Hongsheng sat down and wiped the fine sweat from his forehead. "We must have been followed when we came out. Who is it?"

"It's Shen Linfeng from the Shen family." Su Wanwan poured tea for her third uncle.

"The Shen family?" Su Hongsheng looked up. "They still won't let you go."

"Yes." Su Wanwan handed the handkerchief to her third uncle.

Su Hongsheng put down his tea. "Let's go, let's go quickly. We'll get you to Suzhou as soon as possible. There are plenty of us there, so we won't be afraid."

The two hurriedly boarded the boat.

There was no further stop in between.

Su Wanwan returned to her cabin and opened the window to get some fresh air, only to see Feng Chenjun and his subordinates sitting on the opposite ship.

The window was quickly closed, leaving only a tiny crack.

Su Wanwan, with her buttocks sticking out, lay prone at an odd angle, observing the other person's movements through the gap.

Feng Chenjun was lying on the chair with his eyes closed, resting.

His black hair swayed in the spring breeze, and his slender hands were casually placed at his sides. Across the river, he looked like a man straight out of a painting depicting the beauty of Jiangnan.

Su Wanwan recalled what Fengchenjun had said earlier.

Enraged, he grabbed a pillow and started hitting it wildly.

He was venting the anger that had been suffocating him from Feng Chenjun's earlier mockery.

Little did she know that the people on the distant ship, through the light, saw her silhouette and took in everything about her.

"My lord, judging from Miss Su's reaction, she must be angry with you." Jian Qingshan sat on the deck outside the window, holding his sword.

"So what if I'm annoyed?" Xiao Xuanjing put his hand to his forehead. This troublemaker was a variable in his life.

"My lord, are we really leaving like this? What will we do about the mess in the court?"

"Let it rot." Xiao Xuanjing's gaze fell on the window in the distance, where a woman had taken a wooden stick from somewhere and was pounding a pillow.

"Those people in the court appear respectful on the surface, but in reality, they are wary of the emperor." Xie Yunzhou opened the document in his hand.

"Now look what's happened. The emperor has left, His Majesty is bedridden, the crown prince is acting crazy all day long, there's no leader, and the court is in complete chaos."

"Fine, let them see clearly who truly cares about the court." Jian Qingshan said indignantly.

The woman across the way threw her pillow against the window, and it fell limply back down.

"What did the master say that made Miss Su so angry?" Xie Yunzhou peeked out and saw the scene as well.

"It sounded like he was saying something about how every time he saw her he had bad luck, and that he never wanted to see her again." Jian Qingshan scratched the back of his head.

"What you say makes sense, my lord," Xie Yunzhou nodded.

"Which woman who hangs out with the Princess every day doesn't have feelings for the Lord? Shen Qingrong from the Shen family actually tried to drug the Lord at the Princess's banquet, but the Lord..." Xie Yunzhou made a throat-slitting gesture.

"Ah? It's because of this?" Jian Qingshan was taken aback. He had thought that Shen Qingrong had been punished for plotting against His Highness.

"That Miss Su over there," Xie Yunzhou said, resting his chin on his hand, "has been quite well-behaved these past few years, not seen acting particularly outrageous. But these days she's really changed."

"With her personality, if it weren't for Shen Qingrong keeping her in check, she would have been dead long ago," Jian Qingshan said, glancing sideways.

"Have you said enough?" Xiao Xuanjing opened his eyes. "Have the letters been sent out?"

"They've all been sent out. General Xiao should have received them by now," Xie Yunzhou said, looking at the sky.

For the next few days, Feng Chenjun's ship remained facing Su Hongsheng's ship from a distance.

Su Wanwan became even more certain that Feng Chenjun was worried about the Su family and had come to monitor them.

So she never opened that window from beginning to end.

These past few days, her every move has been clearly seen by the person opposite her.

After poking the roly-poly toy's face, she hugged her pillow, turned off the light, and fell asleep.

The shadows on the window paper shrank into a ball, quiet and still.

Xiao Xuanjing sat in the chair, gazing out the window in a daze.

The Su family faced a near-death experience on this trip, and Mother was determined to eliminate the Su family.

A carrier pigeon landed on the deck in the distance. Jian Qingshan picked it up, took the bamboo slip, and handed it to his master.

"My Lord, a letter has arrived."

After reading it, Xiao Xuanjing tossed the bamboo slip in his hand into the ink box beside him.

The mother actually told the Prince of Changxin the secret of transporting copper ore.

King Changxin will surely send men to rob the copper.

The Su family is doomed.
