The scope of the investigation was suddenly narrowed down to less than thirty people.

Li Jian looked at the report in his hand and sighed.

"What a genius."

She took off her sunglasses and called out to Chen Ziming in the crowd.

This sound made everyone in the Chinese delegation, who were about to board the bus, stop in their tracks and turn to look at it.

Cheng Yao saw it too. She tightened her grip on her luggage and looked at the flashy sports car and the equally flashy woman inside. She couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart.

Inside the car, Lin Yuxin was in a good mood, humming a song as she drove.

Chen Ziming put on his blindfold, preparing to use the time on the road to earn some points.

"Hey, don't fall asleep!"

Lin Yuxin reached out and removed his blindfold.

"Have a chat with me."

"What are you going to talk about?"

Chen Ziming thought she was very noisy.

"Let's just talk... does your Zero Point Lab need someone to serve tea and water?"

Lin Yuxin was joking.

"We don't lack anything."

Chen Ziming said,

"The lab has automatic coffee machines and water dispensers, but the labor costs are too high."

Talking to this man always makes me furious.

As the car drove onto the suburban highway, the rain intensified, and even the wipers at their fastest speed were of little use. Suddenly, the car shook, making a piercing noise, and then the engine stalled.

She started to panic. There was no village or shop in sight, the rain was so heavy, and her cell phone signal was only one bar.

Chen Ziming unbuckled his seatbelt and pushed open the door to get out of the car.

"Car repair."

"How are you going to fix it in this heavy rain?"

Lin Yuxin looked at the dark woods outside the window, feeling a little scared.

"And...didn't you hear that? It sounded like something."

"I heard you."

Chen Ziming said,

"There was a metallic cracking sound at the connection between the suspension link and the steering knuckle arm of the left front wheel. It should be because the impact was too great when we drove over the puddle, causing it to break."

Lin Yuxin was completely confused, but that wasn't her focus.

"That's not the sound."

She lowered her voice and nervously gripped Chen Ziming's arm.

Chen Ziming glanced at her, then looked up at the roof of the car.

"Those are tree branches, blown by the wind and stuck to the roof of the car."

He explained calmly,

"The sound you heard is the high-frequency vibration produced by the friction between the tree branch tip and the car paint. There's nothing to be afraid of."

Lin Yuxin was still scared, and she practically clung to Chen Ziming.

Chen Ziming felt that she was in his way and was getting him out of the car, so he reached out and simply pressed Lin Yuxin's head onto his shoulder, while covering her ears with his other hand.

"Don't speak, and don't move."

Lin Yuxin was stunned by his sudden action. She smelled soap on him and his palms were hot. She was no longer afraid, and her heart started to beat faster.

Taking advantage of her quietness, Chen Ziming pushed open the car door and got out. The icy rain instantly soaked him through. He walked to the front of the car, and without even opening the hood, he lay down on the ground and crawled under the car.

Lin Yuxin sat in the car, watching him struggle in the mud, feeling both touched and heartbroken.

In less than five minutes, Chen Ziming crawled out from under the car, covered in mud and water, looking like a potato just dug out of the ground. He got back into the car and started it again.

With a roar, the car really started.

"You...you fixed it already?"

Lin Yuxin couldn't believe it.

"Um."

Chen Ziming took a small sensor connector out of his pocket.

"The sensor wiring harness that controls the transmission has been knocked out; just plug it back in."

Looking at his calm face, Lin Yuxin suddenly felt that with this man around, she had nothing to fear.

The car drove all the way back to the military industrial base.

The rain has stopped.

The car stopped downstairs at the dormitory building, and Chen Ziming unbuckled his seatbelt to get out.

"I have arrived."

He said to Lin Yuxin, who was standing next to him.

Lin Yuxin leaned back in her seat, her eyes closed, as if she had fallen asleep.

Chen Ziming glanced at her; her breathing was steady, but her eyelashes were trembling slightly, and her heart rate was 15 percent faster than during normal sleep.
