The Mysterious Night of Beijing

She couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart; it was a little sour, a little bewildering, but also a cold sense of security.

This is power. A single word or glance can render the arrogant Jiang Chiye speechless, and she is currently protected by this power.

Jiang Chiye, left standing there, was trembling with anger.

"Brother! Look at his attitude! He actually treated me like this for a woman!" He lowered his voice and shouted at Jiang Xian'an.

Jiang Xian'an's expression was also very unpleasant.

Lin Lengyan stood to the side, biting her lip, her eyes red.

Her pitiful appearance softened Jiang Xian'an's heart instantly.

He patted her on the back.

"It's none of your business," he said softly. "It's Lin Chuxiu's own fault for not being proper."

He watched Meng Huizhou and Lin Chuxiu's departing figures, his eyes turning cold. He admitted that he had underestimated Lin Chuxiu's methods, but he didn't believe that Meng Huizhou would be truly sincere towards her.

For someone like Meng Huizhou, standing at the top of the pyramid, what kind of woman hasn't he seen? In his eyes, Lin Chuxiu is nothing more than a new toy. Once he gets tired of her, she will be nothing to him.

Meng Huizhou took a plate, picked out a few light-looking pastries, and handed them to Lin Chuxiu.

Her mind was in turmoil. What she had just witnessed made her realize her situation even more clearly. Her deal with Meng Huizhou was far more profitable, but also far more dangerous, than she had imagined.

Lin Lengyan's voice rang out from behind again.

Lin Chuxiu turned around and saw her carrying two glasses of red wine, walking over with Jiang Xian'an. Lin Lengyan's face once again wore that innocent yet worried expression.

"Sister, I'm sorry about earlier. That's just how Brother Chi Ye is. Please don't take it to heart."

As she spoke, she handed one of the glasses of wine to Lin Chuxiu, "I apologize to you on his behalf. Let's have a drink, sister and sister, and forget about all the unhappy things, okay?"

She spoke so eloquently, as if she were truly a kind younger sister who cared for her older sister.

The surrounding guests gathered around, ready to watch the show.

Lin Chuxiu looked at the wine glass that she was offered, but did not take it.

"I don't drink alcohol," she said.

Lin Lengyan's smile froze for a moment.

"Sister, are you unwilling to forgive me?"

Her tears were about to fall again. "I know you've been wronged by what happened at school. Yang Jiayu was too impulsive."

"I've already scolded her, but sister, you can't demean yourself like this just because of Brother Xian'an."

She abruptly changed the subject, directly targeting the relationship between Lin Chuxiu and Jiang Xian'an.

"You two are engaged. You've gotten so close to Mr. Meng, hoping to make him regret it. Sister, this is wrong of you."

The surrounding chatter started again.

"So that's how it is. She harbored resentment out of love and found a man to get revenge on her ex-boyfriend?"

Jiang Xian'an stood aside, coldly watching Lin Chuxiu, his eyes full of amusement. He tacitly agreed with Lin Lengyan's statement.

Lin Chuxiu laughed in anger. She had witnessed firsthand how someone could twist the truth and call a deer a horse.

Looking at the couple in front of her, so engrossed in their performance, she suddenly felt it was pointless; arguing with them would be a waste of her breath.

She put down her plate, looked at Lin Lengyan, and spoke clearly, word by word.

"First, Yang Jiayu plagiarized my paper. The evidence is conclusive, and the school has already disciplined her. This cannot be summed up by your simple statement of impulsiveness."

"Secondly, whether I've been harassing Jiang Xian'an or not, he knows perfectly well. But you, do I need to remind you who lost too much blood after the car accident, and who was forcibly had their blood drawn?"

"Third," Lin Chuxiu paused, her gaze sweeping over Jiang Xian'an before finally settling on Lin Lengyan's pale face, "despising yourself because of you and those two scumbags? Lin Lengyan, aren't you overestimating yourself?"

After she finished speaking, she ignored them and turned to leave.

"Lin Chuxiu!" Jiang Xian'an finally couldn't help but speak up and stop her.

He stepped forward, shielding the pale-faced Lin Lengyan behind him, his eyes filled with disgust and coldness as he looked at Lin Chuxiu.

"Have you made enough of a scene?"

"Yanyan kindly apologized to you, and this is your attitude? Where is your upbringing?"

"We're not holding your actions against you because you're also a member of the Lin family. Don't push your luck."

Lin Chuxiu stopped and turned to look at him.

"Jiang Xian'an, we've already broken up. My affairs are none of your business, and please, don't bother me anymore."

After she finished speaking, she left without looking back.

Meng Huizhou was no longer in the dining area at some point. She walked alone through the crowd to the terrace outside the banquet hall; she needed some fresh air.

After she left, the atmosphere in the banquet hall became very strange. Everyone looked at Jiang Xian'an and Lin Lengyan with various speculations in their eyes.

Meng Huizhou's assistant, Bai Xin, stood in an inconspicuous corner, put away the phone that was recording in his pocket, pushed up his glasses, and squinted his eyes behind the lenses.

After the banquet, the car was deathly silent on the way back to the manor.

Lin Chuxiu leaned against the car window, watching the neon lights rushing past outside. She felt like she was in a ridiculous dream. From being a rat that everyone wanted to kill to being Mr. Meng's female companion that no one dared to mess with, all in just a few hours, this contrast made her feel very uneasy.

She knew that it was all fake, all borrowed, and that once Meng Huizhou withdrew his protection, she would fall even harder than before.

In the end, she was the one who broke the silence first.

The car drove back to the hillside estate and stopped in front of the villa. The two of them walked in one after the other.
