So what if you have a fever?

It wasn't her who made him stand in the rain in the middle of the night...

Qi He paused for only a moment before neatly shifting the blame back to Shang Jue, and then began to struggle with a sense of righteous indignation.

She gripped Shang Jue's clothes tightly with both hands, pulling them outwards with all her might, her legs kicking and pushing against him restlessly. She struggled and yelled angrily, "Let go! Let go! I can't breathe!"

She struggled for a while but couldn't break free. In a fit of anger, she lowered her head and bit his shoulder, leaving a tooth mark through his clothes.

She held his tongue for a long time without moving, then let go, placed her hands on his shoulders, and pushed him away. Surprisingly, she managed to push him away.

Qi He hurriedly scrambled off the bed, his panicked state resembling that of someone being chased by a ferocious beast.

She only felt confident when her feet were on the ground, and her first thought was to call someone to take her back.

She had just taken two steps toward the door when she heard a muffled thud behind her, as if something had fallen heavily to the ground.

She turned her head and saw Shang Jue lying on the ground, pale-faced, his right hand instinctively pressing against his abdomen, his brows furrowed.

Qi He was stunned for a moment, wondering if she had really used that much force in her attack.

Could it be an act?

But Shang Jue's complexion was really not good. He stayed up until midnight last night, and was rained on all day without eating a single grain of rice. Bringing Qi He back had exhausted his last bit of strength.

With Qi He's push, he could no longer hold on.

Shang Jue gave a low "hmm".

Qi He stopped in her tracks as she was heading towards the door. She covered her face and resignedly turned back, bending down to hug Shang Jue's shoulders, trying to get him back onto the bed.

What did that dog eat to grow so heavy?

It took her a lot of effort to lift his upper body; the man's weight was almost entirely on her, making her sway.

Qi He was puzzled. How could Shang Jue usually pick her up with one hand? Was this person made of stone?

And he seems to be getting heavier.

She couldn't steady herself, and Shang Jue's hand rested on her shoulder. His burning lips brushed against her cheek several times, touching her briefly before pulling away.

Qi He felt a tingling sensation where the object was touched, and even her ears turned red.

If Shang Jue weren't currently delirious from the fever, she would definitely suspect that he did it on purpose.

She dragged Shang Jue back to the bed, covered him with blankets, sat on the edge of the bed to catch her breath, stared at his pale face for a while, and her anger flared up again.

That scoundrel is just putting on an act.

She clenched her fists and gestured a few times in front of his closed eyes, then, still not satisfied, made a gesture as if she were choking him. She went back and forth in several fierce poses, but ultimately couldn't find a suitable place to strike.

After a while, she was amused by her own childish behavior and was about to withdraw her hand when Shang Jue suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Qi He was startled and quickly looked at his face.

Shang Jue was still asleep, his eyes closed. He simply held her wrist and gently pressed her hand against his chest.

"Knock knock, knock knock."

A steady heartbeat traveled through her clothes to her palm.

Shang Jue's voice was low and muffled: "Stop fooling around."

Qi He suddenly fell silent.

She tried to pull her hand away, but couldn't.

"Hey, Shang Jue, let go," she warned in a low voice.

Shang Jue didn't move, still holding her hand tightly.

After a moment, Qi He spoke first: "I'm not leaving."

With his eyes closed, Shang Jue asked, "Really not leaving?"

The sound was very soft.

Qi He turned her face away irritably at his question, and stubbornly replied, "I'm afraid no one will collect your body after I'm gone."

Shang Jue replied softly, "I remember writing 'deceased husband' on the tombstone."

Qi He laughed in exasperation. "You're so sick and you still have the energy to talk back? You should just go and rest in peace!"

She stood up expressionlessly and went downstairs to rummage through her medicine box.

Not knowing what medicine to give him, she simply brought up all the bottles and jars labeled "fever reducer".

Shang Jue recovered somewhat, but his breathing was still unstable.

When she got closer, she could feel the heat emanating from his body, and she couldn't help but wonder if something bad would happen if he kept burning up like that.

She opened a packet of medicine, mixed it with warm water, and handed it to him.

Shang Jue reluctantly swallowed the medicine, and stared at her before going to sleep.

Qi He looked away from him, saying, "I'll leave once you're asleep."

The fever-reducing medication worked quickly, and Shang Jue's breathing gradually calmed down, his furrowed brows relaxed.

Qi He then pulled her wrist back. Her skin was thin, and after he dragged her all the way back from the east of the city, her wrist was already red.

By noon, Qi He had learned her lesson and stopped thinking about cooking for herself, instead having someone bring her food from outside.

Shang Jue was still fast asleep, so she ate something casually and started thinking about returning to the east of the city.

But leaving a sick person at home unattended seems too immoral.

Even if Qi He refused to admit it, she knew that Shang Jue's illness was caused by her.

She hesitated for a long time, thinking she would wait until he woke up before saying anything.

She quietly walked to the door of Shang Jue's room and peeked inside.

A light, cold rain began to fall outside the window again. The winter rain in the south is dense and needle-like, gloomy and cold, chilling you to the bone. Running away from home in this kind of weather certainly takes some courage.

When she woke up again, she was no longer on the low stool by the bed, but had somehow rolled onto Shang Jue's bed, with half of the quilt covering her.

It was already completely dark outside the window, and a few lanterns in the garden shone with a dim yellow light in the rain and mist.

Qi He froze for a moment, then let out a silent wail. How could she possibly sleep on her ex-husband's bed while they were getting a divorce?!

She quickly got up and ran outside, but as soon as she reached the hall, she smelled the aroma of food.

Shang Jue had already prepared several home-style dishes, which were placed on the table.

Qi He suddenly found herself unable to move.

Shang Jue seemed to have forgotten the unpleasantness of the morning, and only glanced at her: "Eat first."

Qi He really wanted to retort with pride, "Who wants to eat your cooking?", but the food just smelled so good.

She comforted herself, saying that the food was not wrong, and it wouldn't be too late to leave after finishing this meal.

She hadn't eaten much at noon, so she was indeed hungry now.

Although he did not answer Shang Jue's question, his body language betrayed him as he sat down at the table.

The meal was finished in silence.

After eating and drinking his fill, Qi He finally remembered his business.

It's already this late, we should go.

She took two steps toward the door, eager to try, but her steps faltered. After all, it wouldn't be right to turn her back on someone right after eating their meal.

Running away from home is something that can only be done once in a while; once it's done, it weakens, and once it's done, it's exhausted. If you drag it out a few times, it just seems pretentious.

While Shang Jue was clearing the dishes, she secretly sent a letter to Hu Ying, subtly revealing her intention to leave.

Hu Ying's reply came quickly, beginning with the question: "What are you two up to now?"

But before Qi He could even get angry, another letter arrived: "Why is Baby leaving? What did that bastard do this time?!"

Qi He replied that it was a long story, and asked Hu Ying if she could smooth things over for her.

Hu Ying, who had nothing else to do, replied that she would take care of it.

Qi He finally breathed a sigh of relief and waited patiently for someone to come and pick her up.

Anyway, she didn't want to live under the same roof with this jerk anymore.

Half an hour later, Hu Ying arrived at the entrance of Qianjin Tower in a carriage, but before she could enter, she was stopped by Shang Jue in the corridor.

"Miss Hu, is there something urgent that comes so late?" Shang Jue asked indifferently, without any emotion.

Hu Ying was taken aback by his calm and collected demeanor, and her earlier accusatory spirit dissipated considerably. She stammered, "Uh, I came to find Qi He."

Shang Jue remained expressionless: "She's resting."

Hu Ying shrank back: "Then... I'll come again tomorrow?"

"She will go out with me tomorrow."

"And the day after tomorrow?"

"The day after tomorrow is Lunar New Year's Eve."

Hu Ying was speechless, glancing at the candlelight shining from upstairs through the porch, and silently sighed for Qi He.

Qi Xiaohe, it's not that I don't want to help you, it's just that your husband is too scary.

She reluctantly boarded the carriage and sent a letter in reply.

The letter contained only one line: "The door gods in your house are too fierce."

Qi He unfolded the letter, remained silent for a long while, and then gritted her teeth.

"You bastard!"

But do you think that will stop me from running away from home?
