Reborn in 2006, I met Mr. Zhou from the past.
Chapter 191 New Year's Eve Dinner
"You've all worked so hard these past few days..." Su Fengnan's eyes were full of relief. She picked up the teapot on the table, poured Yanzi a cup of warm water and handed it to her, then pulled her to sit down by the stove. "Sit down and warm yourself by the fire, it must be cold outside."
Holding the warm water cup in both hands, Yanzi sat down by the stove, her eyes full of joy, and responded crisply, "Mmm~".
"Then in a few days when we start work, I'll settle the accounts between you and Hai Ge. I left in a hurry before the New Year and didn't have time to settle the accounts with you in detail," Su Fengnan said softly.
Su Fengxia, her eyes darting around, leaned forward and teased, "Wow, Sister Yanzi is going to become a little rich woman! What nice things are you planning to buy yourself as a reward with this money?"
Yanzi took a sip of water, smiling faintly. She hadn't actually decided what to buy with the money yet. After a moment of silence, she couldn't help but sigh deeply, "Honestly, I never even dared to dream of saving so much money. I'll save it for now; it'll make me feel more at ease."
Seeing her honesty, Su Fengnan nodded inwardly and tentatively asked in a soft voice, "Yanzi, have you ever thought about... enrolling in night school? Like learning accounting or something."
"Huh?" Yanzi suddenly looked up, her face full of surprise and unease, her voice even lowering, "I... I didn't even graduate from junior high school, can I do it?"
"If you want to learn, why not?" Su Fengnan's tone was firm, her gaze gentle yet powerful. "Society will develop faster and faster in the future, and even I feel I need to keep learning to keep up." She paused, her gaze sweeping over her two adorable younger sisters, a smile playing on her lips. "If our shop grows bigger and bigger, we'll definitely need you to manage people. If you don't have some real skills, how can your subordinates respect you?"
These words resonated deeply. Yanzi, holding her water glass, looked thoughtful as her eyes flickered.
Su Fengnan looked at her, but she had other plans in mind. She hoped that Yanzi could learn more so that even if Yanzi didn't want to work for her anymore in the future, she could still rely on her skills and management experience to stand on her own and not live too badly.
Yanzi pondered for a moment, then finally raised her head, her eyes brightening slightly: "Then... I'll think about it carefully first, and tell you when I've made up my mind."
"Okay, sure," Su Fengnan replied with a smile.
During their casual conversation, Su Fengnan seemed to remember something and casually asked, "By the way, did your brother come back for the Chinese New Year this year?"
She was referring to her cousin, Su Fenghua. In Su Fengnan's memory, although her cousin was introverted and not good at speaking, he was down-to-earth and hardworking, and always reliable.
"He missed it this year, but he'll be able to go home next year," Yanzi replied casually.
"He couldn't even make it back for the New Year. Is he doing alright out there?" Su Fengnan asked with concern.
"That's great. I heard there are some people from their hometown working at their factory, and they all get together to celebrate the New Year. It's quite lively," Yanzi said in a relaxed tone.
Su Fengnan nodded, but a hint of regret crept into her heart. She had originally planned that if Brother Hua came back this time, she could take the opportunity to help him out and do something together. Now it seemed that she could only wait for another opportunity.
Under the bright lights, the three sisters chatted idly for a long time, catching up on everything under the sun. Before they knew it, the clock struck twelve, and fireworks suddenly burst into the sky from their village and the neighboring village, exploding spectacularly against the dark night. The three ran out of the house and stood in the courtyard, watching the final dazzling display before Yanzi went home. Only then did Su Fengnan and her sister return to their rooms to sleep.
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, Su Guoyuan and Wen Xiaofen got up and cooked a pot of hot glutinous rice balls in the kitchen.
Su Fengnan was still asleep when the crackling sound of firecrackers in the yard jolted her awake. She rubbed her eyes, remembering that she had to go to the city today, and even though she was too sleepy to keep her eyes open, she forced herself to get up.
"Dad, Mom, you're up way too early." Su Fengnan walked into the kitchen wearing a coat and bumped into her parents eating glutinous rice balls at the table.
"Xiao Nan, why don't you sleep a little longer? It's the first day of the lunar new year. We weren't planning to wake you up; we wanted you to sleep in a bit longer." Wen Xiaofen quickly put down her chopsticks and got up to serve her daughter some glutinous rice balls.
Su Fengnan walked to the stove and took the bowl from her mother's hand: "Mom, I can do it myself, you go and eat yours."
She ladled out a bowl of glutinous rice balls, and after taking just one bite, Su Guoyuan chuckled and teased, "Xiao Nan, you're up so early, are you planning to go to the cemetery with your dad to wish your grandparents a Happy New Year?"
Su Fengnan was stunned for a moment before she suddenly realized that today was the first day of the Lunar New Year, and according to the customs of her hometown, she had to go up the mountain to pay respects to her ancestors.
Following her father's lead, she smiled, her eyes crinkling, "Yes, that's right! I'll also pray to our ancestors to bless our family with peace, health, and that we'll earn more money in the new year!"
"It's so cold out there, and the wind is so strong up the mountain. You shouldn't go. Just stay home," Wen Xiaofen advised with concern.
"If the child wants to go, let her go. It's the Lunar New Year, and as a grandchild, she should go and kowtow to her ancestors." Su Guoyuan waved his hand, making the final decision.
Seeing her husband say this, Wen Xiaofen didn't try to persuade them any further. She just told them to wear warm clothes and let the father and daughter go out.
On the other side, the cemetery was still shrouded in a thin layer of morning mist. Zhou Chenyu had breakfast with his grandmother early in the morning, and then drove over to wish his grandfather and mother a Happy New Year.
They first went to Xie's maternal grandfather's grave, respectfully offered incense and paid their respects for the New Year, before slowly walking to Zhou Chenyu's mother's grave.
Zhou Chenyu stood quietly before the tombstone, his gaze fixed intently on his mother's gentle, smiling face in the photograph. He silently murmured in his heart: "Mom, I've begun to avenge you. But those people are organized and premeditated; it will take some time. If you are watching over me from heaven, please tell me in a dream what they want from you, okay?"
"Ya Ya," Grandma stepped forward, arranging the offerings she had brought one by one, and murmured softly, her voice filled with relief, "Yu'er has a girlfriend now. Even if this old woman is no longer here, he'll have someone to keep him company. That girl is very good, a well-behaved and sensible child. You can rest assured."
"Grandma, you still have to see us get married and have children, so you mustn't say things like that again." Zhou Chenyu's heart tightened, and she quickly interrupted her, her tone revealing a hint of stubbornness and urgency, "I want you to stay with me forever."
Upon hearing this, Grandma's eyes warmed. She gently patted Zhou Chenyu's arm and comforted him with a smile, "Silly child, Grandma is old. Birth, aging, sickness, and death are inevitable. You should take it easy."
After saying that, the old lady turned around, pulled her coat tighter, and said softly, "Let's go, let's go back."
Zhou Chenyu had just accompanied his grandmother into the house when his phone vibrated. It was Su Fengnan calling; her parents, mindful that it wasn't auspicious to visit others on the first day of the lunar new year, had insisted on keeping her at home. Even through the phone, Zhou Chenyu could almost see her disappointed expression. Despite his immense reluctance, he could only suppress his feelings and leave that concern for tomorrow.
