Reborn in 2006, I met Mr. Zhou from the past.

Chapter 131 Confessing His Background

"Well, we'll see. I'll come over when you need my help." Su Fengnan sat in the chair, blinking at him.

Zhou Chenyu thought for a moment and said, "Why don't you come stay at my place?"

"Oh? This isn't appropriate." Su Fengnan's face flushed instantly, and she quickly lowered her eyes.

"My place is very close to the library. Why don't you consider it? It'll be convenient for you to look up any information you need for your studies."

Actually, when Su Fengnan decided to rent that house, Zhou Chenyu was already thinking about how to lure his little girl to his home. After much thought, only the "library" was the most appealing reason for her.

Hearing Zhou Chenyu say this, Su Fengnan was indeed a little tempted, but only a little.

Since Brother Zhou has a house in the city center, why does he still live in Zijiang? And he's just a photographer. And what about last night's explosion? Did he offend someone? He doesn't seem as simple as he appears.

As Su Fengnan thought about it, she couldn't help but feel worried again.

Overwhelmed with worry, she looked up at Zhou Chenyu and cautiously asked, "Brother Zhou, have you offended someone?"

Zhou Chenyu was taken aback. He knew there were some things he shouldn't keep from his little girl, but now wasn't the time to tell her. However, he still needed to give her a sense of security.

He walked over, sat down next to Su Fengnan, took her hand in his, looked into her eyes, and said earnestly, "Nan'er, don't worry. I haven't offended anyone, but some things are wrong even if you haven't offended anyone."

Su Fengnan's heart clenched, and her brows furrowed. What did she mean by "it's still a mistake even if you haven't offended anyone"?

"Don't worry, I'll handle it. Everything will be fine. Don't overthink it."

"Really?" Su Fengnan asked again to confirm.

"How can I be a good boyfriend if I can't even handle this little thing? Don't worry, I'll take care of it."

Zhou Chenyu pulled Su Fengnan into his arms, letting her lean gently against his shoulder. A confident smile played on his lips, and his eyes held an air of certainty that victory was assured.

Hearing him say that, Su Fengnan's tense heart finally relaxed a little, and she replied softly, "Well, that's good."

Feeling the girl in his arms completely relax, Zhou Chenyu also breathed a sigh of relief. He really didn't want the little girl to worry about these undercurrents of trouble.

"Nan'er, would you like to hear about my family?" he asked in a low voice.

Su Fengnan was slightly taken aback. She never liked to pry into other people's privacy, even if it was her boyfriend. But if he was willing to talk, she would always be his most loyal listener.

"Is it okay?" she asked softly.

"Fool, what's wrong with that?"

Zhou Chenyu had actually forgotten many things from the past. Only recently have those long-buried memories slowly resurfaced like a tide, bringing with them the pain that had been deliberately buried back into focus.

If Su Fengnan weren't the only salvation in his dark past, he would never have been willing to reopen those bloody wounds.

"My mother passed away when I was ten years old. Later, I got sick and had no one to take care of me, so I was sent to live with my maternal grandmother, where we have been relying on each other ever since."

Su Fengnan was somewhat surprised and stared at him intently.

Zhou Chenyu turned to look out the window, her gaze deep: "Before, my grandmother was the most important person to me in this world. Now that I have you, I will be content as long as you are by my side."

After speaking, he turned around, met Su Fengnan's gaze tenderly, and smiled slightly.

Listening to his story, Su Fengnan felt a surge of indescribable bitterness in her heart.

"Brother Zhou..." she called softly.

Zhou Chenyu chuckled softly, reached out and pulled her back into his arms, gently rubbing his chin against the top of her head, his voice low and gentle: "I'm fine... it's all over now."

"My mother is a scientist, simple-minded, and only wants to do scientific research. Back then, she married that man against the wishes of her whole family. Unfortunately, she didn't know that the love she rushed into was just a carefully calculated scheme by someone else."

Recalling the simple, cheerful woman in his memory, and how she happily learned to make curry rice for him just because he casually mentioned liking it, Zhou Chenyu's tone softened involuntarily.

"However, that marriage ultimately did not nourish her, but instead became her death warrant. All I know is that they say she was driven to illness by a major mistake at work, and eventually passed away."

Zhou Chenyu dared not tell Su Fengnan the cruelest truth; he could bear those bloody scenes alone.

"That man later married someone else through a marriage alliance, and I never went back. Of course, he never cared about me again."

A marriage alliance. Su Fengnan instantly understood who that person he didn't want to mention was. This was indeed a typical feud within a wealthy family.

"Will that person come looking for you again?" she asked cautiously.

"I did look for him. After graduation, he wanted me to go back and arrange a marriage."

Su Fengnan jumped to her feet, her eyes wide: "You're not someone's fiancé, are you?"

"How could that be?" Zhou Chenyu was amused by her exaggerated reaction. He got up and hugged her again. "I refused outright. Later, he sent someone to mediate, but I didn't even meet them. It's my life's most important decision, and no one can dictate it to me."

He tightened his arms around her, his voice low and firm: "Nan'er, don't overthink it, I'm yours."

Su Fengnan hugged him back, buried her face in his chest, and responded with a muffled "Mmm".

Zhou Chenyu gently patted her back and continued, "My mother is my maternal grandmother's only daughter. She has two older brothers. From a young age, she was pampered like a little princess and was so well protected that even in her mid-twenties, she was still simple-minded and stubborn. So when she met that person, she insisted on marrying him and even cut off ties with her family."

"After she passed away, I was taken to live with my maternal grandmother. After graduating, I started a business with a friend in City B, and now the company is on track and I don't need to keep an eye on it all the time. So this time I came back to spend more time with my grandmother. Her health hasn't been very good for the past year or so."

Su Fengnan looked up, her eyes filled with worry: "Is she sick?"

A bitter look flashed across Zhou Chenyu's eyes: "Grandma has Alzheimer's disease. She'll only get worse at remembering people, and I don't know... if she'll even live to see my wedding day."

He paused, his voice becoming even softer: "When we get back to Zijiang, I want to take you to meet your grandmother."

"Okay." Su Fengnan nodded vigorously. "What does Grandma usually like to eat? Tell me, and I'll bring her some delicious food."

Seeing her serious expression, Zhou Chenyu's eyes lit up with a smile: "Okay."

"On my maternal grandmother's side, she's all alone now. My two uncles unfortunately passed away during those turbulent ten years. So when my mother wanted to get married, my maternal grandmother and uncles strongly opposed it, which caused my maternal grandfather to fall seriously ill in anger, and he passed away a couple of years later as well."

"Now, my maternal uncle from another branch of the family is helping me take care of my grandmother. He can only help out a little when I'm not around."

After settling things off at home, Zhou Chenyu asked softly, "I'm going back to Zijiang tonight. Are you coming back with me, or do you want to stay here for a couple more days?"

Su Fengnan thought about what she had missed these past two days and nodded: "Yeah, let's go back. I haven't done a lot of homework."
