A bizarre and terrifying experience; I messed up the dungeon world.
Chapter 527 You are already dead
There is a mirror on the bedside table.
Su Wan picked up the mirror. Her face was reflected in the mirror.
Then she saw something else.
In the mirror, she was wearing a white hospital gown, her long hair cascading down. Her mouth was moving, as if she were saying something.
Su Wan leaned closer.
The woman in the mirror silently repeated a sentence. Su Wan watched it several times before finally deciphering her lip movements—
"You are dead."
Su Wan placed the mirror face down on the bed and took a step back.
Her heart was racing. Her palms were sweating. But she didn't scream, she didn't panic.
Three seconds later, she turned the mirror over and looked at herself again. The mirror only showed her current reflection: wearing pajamas and with her hair tied up.
"Hallucination," she whispered.
But she knew it wasn't.
Fragments of memory swirled through her mind. A white corridor, the pungent smell of disinfectant, someone speaking in her ear—"The seventh experiment failed." "Try again." "Her consciousness is relatively stable."
Su Wan leaned against the wall, her temples throbbing.
"Su Wan".
Gu Shen stood at the door.
"You don't look well," he said.
"It's nothing." Su Wan released her grip on the wall. "It's probably because this instance has a mental interference effect."
Gu Shen walked in, not intending to ask any further questions, but he didn't leave either. He stood at the door, as if to make sure she was really alright.
Su Wan gave him a forced smile: "It's really nothing. Let's go, it'll probably reset soon."
The two returned to the hall.
Jiang Yu was standing behind the nurses' station, studying something. Wang Lei and Fang Qing were huddled together, flipping through medical records.
"I've found a pattern." Jiang Yu held up a piece of paper. "The safe zone changes every time it resets. But there's one area where ghosts will never appear—that's the room marked with this symbol."
She pointed to a circle drawn on the paper with a cross in the middle.
Su Wan recognized the mark.
She didn't know why she recognized him.
"Okay," Su Wan said, "Then we—"
A flash of white light appeared.
The reset has begun.
Su Wan opened her eyes again and found herself standing alone in the corridor. Her number was 087.
As expected, things were disrupted.
She looked down at the doors around her. Door 087 didn't have the circle-cross mark. Door 088 did.
Su Wan pushed open door 088 and went inside.
It was an empty hospital room, nothing special. But at least it was safe.
She sat on the edge of the bed, using the time to sort through the fragments of memory she had just recalled.
"The seventh experiment," she murmured. What experiment? Who's conducting it? Is she the subject?
She couldn't remember anything more. Those memories slipped through her fingers like water, the more she tried to grasp them, the less she could hold onto them.
The door was pushed open.
Su Wan stood up abruptly, assuming a fighting stance.
Fang Qing came in.
"I'm all alone." Fang Qing raised her hands to indicate that she was harmless. "I came in because I saw the mark."
Su Wan relaxed.
Fang Qing sat on another bed, remained silent for a few seconds, and then suddenly said, "Su Wan, the way you just determined the safe zone..."
"Um?"
"It looks like someone."
Su Wan looked at her.
Fang Qing pursed her lips: "There's a very famous expert on the horror game forum, whose ID is 'Zero'. Nobody knows her real identity, but she's posted a lot of dungeon guides, and her reasoning logic is very similar to yours. She always looks at the environmental details first and then gives a conclusion directly, never explaining the reasoning process in between."
Su Wan raised an eyebrow: "You think I'm that person?"
"I'm not sure," Fang Qing said, "but if it is, you should be much stronger than an A-rank dungeon."
Su Wan didn't reply.
She genuinely didn't know who "Zero" was. But the characteristics Fang Qing described—looking at details first, giving conclusions directly, and not explaining the reasoning process—perfectly matched her behavior in the dungeon.
This made her even more uneasy.
If she used to be a very skilled player, why doesn't she remember anything now?
The door opened again, and this time Gu Shen and Jiang Yu entered.
"Where's Wang Lei?" Su Wan asked.
"We should be able to find him after the next reset," Jiang Yu said. "I've roughly figured out the pattern of this dungeon. After three resets, the exit will appear at the end of the corridor. We just need to survive three resets."
"The premise is that we don't get caught by the ghost," Gu Shen said.
"Of course." Jiang Yu glanced at his watch—it was still ticking—"Four more minutes. Let's take a break."
The four people were waiting in the ward.
The second reset has arrived.
This time, Su Wan and Gu Shen were assigned to the same group.
The corridor was quiet, with only the sound of their footsteps.
"What are you investigating?" Su Wan asked.
Gu Shen turned his head to look at her.
"I know you've been looking into something lately," Su Wan said. "When you enter a dungeon, you're always observing things outside the system interface."
Gu Shen remained silent for a few seconds.
"You're right," he said. "I'm looking into something. But I can't say anything yet."
"Okay." Su Wan didn't ask any more questions.
Gu Shen clearly hadn't expected her reaction. He looked at her for several seconds, as if waiting for her to ask further questions.
But Su Wan just kept walking forward, as if the conversation had just been mentioned casually.
Gu Shen followed her.
He felt uneasy. Su Wanming sensed that he was hiding something but didn't intend to delve into it. This trust made him feel a strange sense of guilt.
After the third reset, the five finally reunited. Wang Lei's left hand was wrapped in bandages; he appeared to have suffered a minor injury, but his spirits were good.
"The exit is over there," Jiang Yu said, pointing to a glowing door at the end of the corridor.
The five people walked over.
There was a ghost standing at the door.
A three-star ghost. It's shaped like a nurse, but its neck is twisted 180 degrees, and its face is turned backward. It stands motionless in front of the door.
"We have to call them," Su Wan said.
She stretched out her hand. A dark red light shone from her fingertips.
That's her skill—[Deconstruction]. It allows her to dismantle the material structure of ghosts and monsters in a short time.
A dark red light shone on the nurse ghost. The ghost's body began to disintegrate, scattering like sand.
Solved within ten seconds.
Wang Lei and Fang Qing stood behind, their mouths agape.
Fang Qing whispered to Wang Lei, "I was right, wasn't I?"
Wang Lei nodded vigorously.
The five people passed through the glowing door.
A white flashed by.
The dungeon settlement screen appeared.
Su Wan didn't look at the reward immediately; she was thinking about those fragments of memory from earlier.
"Seventh experiment" "Her consciousness is still relatively stable" "You are already dead."
She needs to figure out what these things mean.
After the settlement, the five people stood in the white space outside the instance.
"Thanks." Wang Lei rubbed his hands together. "If it weren't for you guys, I definitely wouldn't have made it."
Su Wan looked at him and Fang Qing: "Do you two want to officially form a team? You can go into dungeons together from now on."
Wang Lei and Fang Qing exchanged a glance.
"Uh..." Wang Lei said, "It's not that we don't want to team up with you, but we're too weak. If we follow you, we'll just be dragging you down."
Fang Qing also shook her head: "Let's talk about it when we're stronger."
Su Wan didn't press the issue: "Okay. But if you encounter any difficulties, you can contact me."
The two nodded and left the white space.
Jiang Yu yawned: "I'm going back. My apple is still on the table; it's probably oxidized by now."
