A bizarre and terrifying experience; I messed up the dungeon world.
Chapter 43 is dangerous
Leaving the Administration Building, Zhou Lang's feelings were complicated.
He was both happy and worried about the news about his sister. He was happy that she was still alive, but worried that she was trapped in the ghost story high school.
"Is that instance really that dangerous?" he asked the bandage in his mind.
"It's very dangerous." The bandaged man's voice was grave. "The Ghost Story High School is the closest to a real ghost realm among all the dungeons. The ghosts inside are all true evil spirits."
Have you been there?
"No," the bandaged man said, "but I've heard that only one in ten people who enter that instance comes out alive."
Zhou Lang clenched his fist. No matter how dangerous it was, he had to go.
Back at the rented room, Zhao Qiang was already waiting at the door.
"Where did you go?" Zhao Qiang asked. "I called you several times but you didn't answer."
"I went to the management bureau," Zhou Lang said. "They talked to me."
"The Administration Bureau?" Zhao Qiang was taken aback. "What's that?"
Zhou Lang briefly recounted what had just happened, and Zhao Qiang's expression turned grim after hearing it.
"You mean, your sister is trapped in the Ghost Story High School?"
"right."
"So what are you planning to do?"
"Get stronger, then go save her," Zhou Lang said. "I'm going into the next dungeon in three days, do you want to come with me?"
Zhao Qiang hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded.
"I'll stay with you," he said. "Even though I'm scared, you're my brother."
Zhou Lang patted him on the shoulder.
Thanks.
For the next three days, Zhou Lang was busy preparing.
He used all the strange abilities he obtained from the manor instance to strengthen himself, improving his physique, strength, and speed.
At the same time, he was also studying the dean's diary.
The diary contained a lot of information about ghosts and monsters, one of which caught Zhou Lang's attention.
"The power of ghosts comes from fear. The more fear humans feel, the stronger they become. But conversely, if you can make ghosts feel fear, you can weaken their power."
Zhou Lang remembered his skill. "Scare Harvest"—wasn't it about gaining rewards by instilling fear in ghosts and monsters?
It seems this skill is more useful than he imagined.
On the third night, Zhou Lang received a notification from the system.
"Player 'Wandering Wave' has been detected as meeting the entry requirements. Would you like to enter the 'Strange Tales High School' instance?"
Zhou Lang was stunned.
Wasn't it supposed to be three days before entering the next instance? How come it's already Ghost Story High School?
"Wait!" he cried out in his mind, "I'm not ready yet!"
But the system did not respond, and the white light enveloped him directly.
"Forced teleportation in progress..."
Target Dungeon: Ghost Story High School!
"Mission: Become the homeroom teacher of Class 2, Grade 3, and survive for ten days!"
"WARNING: This dungeon is S-rank difficulty with an extremely high death rate. Please proceed with caution!"
When the white light faded, Zhou Lang found himself standing at the door of a classroom.
A noisy sound came from the classroom, as if many students were talking.
Zhou Lang took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
The classroom fell silent instantly.
Dozens of eyes stared at him; some were red, some were green, and some were just empty sockets.
"The new homeroom teacher?" a girl sitting in the first row asked, her head tilted to one side, with obvious marks on her neck.
"It's me." Zhou Lang walked up to the podium. "My name is Zhou Lang, and I will be your homeroom teacher starting today."
A strange laugh erupted in the classroom.
"Another one coming to die," a boy said, his face covered in burn marks.
"The last homeroom teacher died after only three days," another girl said, tears of blood streaming from her eyes.
"How many days can this last?"
"I'll bet two days."
I'll bet a day.
The students started making bets, completely disregarding Zhou Lang.
Zhou Lang stood on the podium, scanning the students below.
Thirty-two students, each one a devil.
Moreover, judging from their aura, they were not ordinary ghosts.
"Quiet," he said.
The noise in the classroom grew even louder, and nobody paid any attention to him.
Zhou Lang smiled.
He took a chainsaw out of his pocket and placed it on the podium.
A roaring sound arose, marking the start of Chapter 8: The Secret of the Basement.
The air in the basement was so damp it felt like it was about to drip water, and the walls were covered in black mold.
Zhou Lang walked forward, holding an oil lamp. The green light illuminated a narrow passage. Iron chains were nailed to the walls on both sides, with dried bloodstains still hanging on them.
"People used to be imprisoned here." Han Yingying's voice trembled.
"It's not just about imprisoning people." Zhao Qiang pointed to the ground. "Look at those scratch marks; no human could have made those."
Zhou Lang crouched down and examined the ground carefully. The scratches were deep, as if they had been dug out with something sharp, and in some places, bone fragments could even be seen.
"Keep going."
At the end of the passage was an iron gate, unlocked, but Zhou Lang knew that this was the second gate the bandaged man had mentioned.
He took out a pair of scissors from his pocket and cut his finger. Blood seeped out and dripped onto the door.
The iron gate opened slowly with a screeching sound.
Behind the door was a larger space, like an operating room. In the center was a rusty operating table with straps strapped to it, and various surgical instruments were placed on a trolley next to it.
But what's most eye-catching are the photos hanging on the wall.
The photos are densely packed, each one showing a different person. There are men and women, young and old, but the only thing they have in common is that they are all dead.
"These are all..." Han Yingying covered her mouth.
"Previous players," Zhou Lang approached the wall, examining the photos closely, "or rather, the materials."
The photos were labeled with dates and numbers, the earliest dating back three years. Zhou Lang roughly counted at least a hundred.
"So many people have died in three years?" Zhao Qiang's voice changed.
Zhou Lang didn't speak; he found a familiar face in the photo.
That's grass.
In the photo, her eyes are open, her expression is terrified, and her body has been dismembered into several pieces and neatly arranged on the operating table.
"Damn it." Zhao Qiang turned his head away, not daring to look anymore.
Zhou Lang continued walking forward, and there was another door on the other side of the operating room. This time, there was no lock on the door, but Zhou Lang knew that this was the third door.
Heart lock.
He stood in front of the door and took a deep breath.
"Wait for me here."
"No!" Han Yingying grabbed him. "We agreed to go together."
"This door is only for one person to pass through," Zhou Lang said, looking at her. "Trust me."
Han Yingying bit her lip, but finally let go.
Zhou Lang turned to face the door, his mind replaying the bandaged man's words.
Only someone who truly wants to die can open it.
He closed his eyes, immersing himself in a certain emotion.
The day his sister disappeared, he stood in the empty room and felt despair for the first time. It felt like being thrown into the deep sea, surrounded by darkness, and no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't float to the surface.
He had thought about dying.
I really thought about it.
But he survived in the end because he knew his sister was still waiting for him.
