Chapter 347 Darkness
Zhao Qiang rolled inside.
Zhao Qiang's experience at the scene was more thrilling than he had imagined.
"The Last Metro" is a mockumentary about the last subway train, with the camera following a woman traveling alone. The train arrives at the station, announces the station name, opens the doors, closes the doors—everything is normal, except that at each station an extra passenger gets on.
The first stop was a boy in a school uniform.
The second stop was an elderly man using a cane.
The third stop—
"It got off the train." Zhao Qiang's face was still green as he described it afterward. "When the third stop opened, that boy in the school uniform walked out of the screen. Not a shadow, but a real person. He stood in the aisle, tilted his head and looked at me for about thirty seconds, then walked out of the screening room."
"Did they go outside?" Lin Yuan asked.
"He went out. He disappeared."
The annotation says, "It will get off at the third stop." Getting off doesn't mean getting off in the movie, but rather stepping off the screen and out of the theater.
This message is important.
Lin Yuan's 2 PM screening of "Farewell" was even more direct. The film tells the story of a woman crying at a funeral. She cries so hard her makeup is ruined. The caption reads "Don't cry"—meaning the audience shouldn't cry.
"I almost couldn't hold back," Lin Yuan said, a little embarrassed. "That scene... it had a certain infectious quality, it wasn't a normal emotion, it was something forced in. My throat tightened, my eyes welled up, and my whole emotion felt like someone was holding the steering wheel."
"and then?"
"Then I pinched my thigh." He rolled up his trouser leg, revealing a bruise on his thigh. "I couldn't cry when it hurt."
Han Yingying compiled this information. The common thread among the first three films was that as long as the instructions in the annotations were followed, they would be safe. The things in the movies could indeed come out, but there were rules governing them.
The problem lies in the last two parts.
The annotations have been crossed out.
Zhou Lang's three o'clock performance is about to begin.
"Are you sure?" Han Yingying asked him at the entrance of screening room C.
"While we may not be certain, we have a solution."
"What method?"
"Scare it back."
Han Yingying watched him walk in, the lights went out, and the door closed.
There were only four people left outside the screening room. Zhao Qiang sat on a bench in the corridor, shaking his leg; Lin Yuan stood against the wall; and Su Ke was looking at information on the system panel.
Waiting is the most agonizing part.
From 3 a.m. to 4 a.m., a full hour.
There was no movement at the door of screening room C. No sound, nothing unusual, as quiet as a grave.
At 4:01, the door opened.
Zhou Lang came out. His clothes were intact, without any marks, and his expression was no different from when he went in. Only his hair was a little messier than before.
"How is it?" Zhao Qiang was the first to rush forward.
"The movie is called 'It's Always Watching You,' and it only has one eye. The whole movie is like a giant eye staring at the audience for an hour."
"Then?"
"Then I went back to watching."
"……that's all?"
"When I was staring at it for the fortieth minute, an eye emerged from the screen. An eyeball connected to blood vessels and nerves was suspended in mid-air, about twenty centimeters from my face."
Zhao Qiang didn't want to listen anymore, but his legs wouldn't obey him and he couldn't move.
"I shouted at it," Zhou Lang said.
"What are you shouting for?"
"What are you looking at? Haven't you ever seen a handsome guy before?"
Quiet.
The entire corridor was silent for a full five seconds.
Su Ke pushed up her glasses and said expressionlessly, "So you scared it away."
"After it retracted into the screen, the movie screen went completely black. Nothing was shown for the remaining twenty minutes."
Han Yingying couldn't help but laugh. This person was really treating a horror movie like a comedy.
But after she finished laughing, she noticed that Zhou Lang glanced in the direction of the projection room on his way back. It was a very quick glance; if she hadn't been observing him at the time, she wouldn't have noticed it at all.
He was looking at something in the projection room.
The 5 PM showing is the last one – "Don't Look Back".
Su Ke has the tickets for this movie.
Su Ke didn't go in immediately. She stood at the entrance of screening room A, took off her glasses, wiped them, and put them back on.
"The annotations in the last part have been crossed out," she said.
"I have a guess," Han Yingying said, walking over. "The movie title is a hint. 'Don't Look Back'—there might be something behind you once you go in. No matter what happens, don't look back."
Su Ke thought for a moment, nodded, and went inside.
From five to six o'clock.
This time the wait was longer than the last. It wasn't that time had changed; it was that everyone's nerves were stretched to the limit.
At 5:40, sound came from the screening room.
Footsteps. Not just one person's footsteps, but the footsteps of many people, chaotic and disorderly, treading on the wooden floor.
Then came Su Ke's voice—she was shouting, but it was impossible to hear what she was shouting.
Lin Yuan made a move.
He rushed to the door and put his hand on the doorknob—the rules said that you couldn't leave the screening room during the screening, but they didn't say that people outside couldn't come in.
"Wait a minute." Han Yingying grabbed him. "Once you're inside, you have to follow the rules of that hall. You can't turn back after you go in. Can you do that?"
Lin Yuan's hands were trembling.
"I don't know," he said. "But she's inside alone."
Zhou Lang walked around from the side and patted Lin Yuan on the shoulder: "You stay at the door and keep watch. I'll go in."
He pushed open the door.
Chaos reigned in screening room A. The screen displayed an endless corridor, and in front of the screen, in the middle of the seating area, and along both sides of the aisle, stood figures as if they had stepped out of the movie. They faced the screen, their backs to the seating area, but their steps were slowly retreating—retreating towards Su Ke.
Su Ke sat in the last row, staring intently ahead. She didn't turn around. But the figures were getting closer and closer.
Zhou Lang walked to Su Ke's side and glanced at the figures. They all had their backs to him, their long hair hanging down in front of their faces—if they had faces.
He took out the oil lamp.
Green light illuminated the entire screening room. The figures became transparent in the light, their edges beginning to dissolve, like ink dripping into clear water.
But they didn't disappear; they just stopped moving.
The effectiveness of the oil lamp was diminished here.
"It seems that relying solely on lamps is not enough." Zhou Lang put away the oil lamp and changed his strategy.
He walked into the middle of the figures and cleared his throat.
"Everyone—"
The figure remained completely still.
"The movie's over," he said in an extremely serious tone. "You're blocking the exit."
The screening room fell silent for a moment.
Then the figures began to move.
They weren't heading towards Su Ke, but towards the screen. One by one, they walked back into the screen, into that endless corridor, and disappeared into the depths of the image.
As the last figure walked onto the screen, the picture went dark.
