Chapter 307 What are you looking at! A bunch of trash!
Enraged, Wang Meng slammed his fist into the strange creature's head. The creature's head shattered like a watermelon, splattering black blood everywhere.
The temperature in the carriage plummeted. All the strange passengers simultaneously raised their heads and stared intently at Wang Meng.
"What are you looking at! A bunch of trash!" Wang Meng, relying on his enhanced strength, was fearless.
The doors closed, the bus started moving again, and drove into the depths of the thick fog.
The carriage was eerily quiet. Li Fei huddled in a corner, trembling.
Han Yingying sat by the window, observing the thick fog outside.
Suddenly, a strange woman sitting in front of Li Fei turned her head. Her neck twisted 180 degrees, her long hair fell down, and her blood-red eyes stared at Li Fei.
The woman eerily stretched out her pale hand and slowly reached for Li Fei's face.
Li Fei was so frightened that he couldn't make a sound and his whole body stiffened.
Seeing this, Han Yingying instinctively tried to stand up to help. The moment she moved, a hand pressed down on her shoulder.
It was that hooded man named Zhou Shui. He had somehow ended up sitting in the row behind her.
"Don't move," Zhou Shui said in a very low voice. "The rules haven't been broken."
Han Yingying turned to look at him. Under the hood was an ordinary face, but his eyes were exceptionally bright.
"What rules?" Han Yingying asked in a low voice.
"The driver said to go inside and find a seat. He didn't say anything about not being seen. As long as the passengers are seated, it's safe," Zhou Shui explained succinctly.
Sure enough, the woman's eerie hand stopped an inch in front of Li Fei's nose, unable to go any further. Li Fei rolled his eyes and fainted. The woman turned her head away, bored.
Han Yingying sat up straight again. This Zhou Shui has a very keen eye for observation; he's definitely not a newbie.
The bus drove through the fog for about half an hour before stopping in front of a dilapidated three-story wooden building.
"Final stop, Horrifying B&B. Everyone get off." The driver said coldly.
The six players got off the bus one after another. The wooden building looked eerie and terrifying in the night, with two white lanterns hanging in front of the door, bearing the words "Terrifying".
The door opened from the inside, and a woman wearing a red cheongsam stepped out. The woman had a voluptuous figure, her face was covered in thick white powder, and her lips were bright red.
"Welcome to the Horrifying B&B, everyone. I'm the proprietress." The woman's voice was alluring, yet carried a chilling undertone. "Your rooms are ready. Your ID cards are on the table in the lobby; please pick them up and play your roles. Remember, the B&B does not provide room service at night, so don't open the door if you hear a knock."
Six people entered the hall. Six cards were placed on the table.
Han Yingying picked up a piece of paper that read: [Art student. Visiting the guesthouse to gather inspiration. Task: Draw a picture that will satisfy the landlady.]
The others also received their respective identity cards.
Chen Shu is a novelist, Wang Meng is a construction worker, Red Rose is an online celebrity, Li Fei is a lost student, and Zhou Shui is a repairman.
"Everyone, go back to your rooms and rest. We'll exchange clues tomorrow during the day," Chen Shu suggested.
Everyone took their keys and went upstairs.
Han Yingying's room was at the end of the corridor on the second floor. Pushing open the door, the room was simply furnished with a bed, a table, and an easel in the corner.
There was an unfinished painting on the easel. It depicted the back of the guesthouse, but many heads were vaguely visible through the windows.
Han Yingying covered the painting with a cloth. She sat on the edge of the bed, sorting out her thoughts.
This instance is strange in every way. The proprietress, the identity card, the easel.
The next morning, the players gathered in the lobby.
The proprietress brought out breakfast: several plates of boiled pork slices and several bowls of red soup.
No one dared to touch their chopsticks.
Han Yingying stared at the proprietress and activated her deception skills: "Proprietress, this meat smells delicious. Did you hunt it yourself in the back mountain?"
The proprietress chuckled, "You little girl, you have such a sweet tongue. This is top-quality ingredient; there's plenty of it in the woods behind the mountain. But you'd better not go there; there are unclean things buried there."
Successfully extracted the information. There's a clue in the woods behind the mountain.
After having "breakfast," Han Yingying carried her drawing board out the door, using the excuse of going to sketch, and headed straight for the back mountain.
The woods behind the mountain are dense, and sunlight cannot penetrate the tree canopy, making it dark and damp.
After walking for a while, an open space appeared ahead. Several blank tombstones stood in the open space.
Han Yingying approached and observed that the soil in front of the tombstone showed signs of being disturbed.
She found a tree branch and was about to clear away the soil when she suddenly heard a strange noise behind her.
Looking back, she saw a monster covered in black fur lunging at her. The monster was incredibly fast, leaving behind a nauseating, foul stench.
Han Yingying couldn't dodge in time and was about to be disemboweled by the sharp claws.
A chainsaw appeared out of nowhere and blocked Han Yingying's path.
The ear-piercing roar of the motor filled the air as the saw blade clashed with the monster's claws, sparks flying everywhere.
Zhou Shui, the hooded man, gripped the chainsaw and swung it forcefully, forcing the monster back.
"This thing is immune to physical damage." Zhou Shui pulled an old oil lamp from his pocket and lit it.
The green light spread out, the monster let out a miserable scream, and turned into a pool of black water.
Han Yingying looked at the chainsaw and oil lamp, and several fragmented images flashed through her mind.
"Zhou Lang?" she blurted out.
Zhou Shui removed his hood, revealing Zhou Lang's familiar face. He was wrapped in several old bandages, exuding a faint, chilling aura.
"You have amnesia?" Zhou Lang put away the chainsaw, his tone calm. "That door to the basement is a spatial trap. Zhao Qiang fell into another instance, and you were kicked back to reality."
"Then what are you doing here?" Han Yingying asked.
"I used some tricks to get here." Zhou Lang patted the bandages on his body. "This instance is not simple; there's an S-rank mystery hidden behind it."
"S-rank?" Han Yingying gasped. C-rank was deadly enough, S-rank was practically a death sentence.
"So we need to form an alliance." Zhou Lang looked at her. "Your con artist skills are very useful. I'll handle the force, and you'll handle extracting information about the rules."
The two reached an agreement.
Zhou Lang pointed to the black water on the ground: "This monster is the resentment of the previous owner of the guesthouse. What is the proprietress trying to cover up?"
They dug down the tombstone and unearthed several skeletons. Each skeleton had a round hole in its skull, as if something had sucked out its brain matter.
"It sucks out brain marrow. This matches the characteristics of a brain-eating child." Zhou Lang analyzed, "S-level bizarre brain-eating children usually live in some kind of container."
Back at the guesthouse, Han Yingying continued to play the role of an art student. She took her easel and drew in the lobby, using the opportunity to observe the landlady.
The proprietress always carried a red ceramic jar in her arms, never leaving it.
into the night.
Zhou Lang sneaked into Han Yingying's room.
"That jar is the key," Han Yingying said in a low voice. "The proprietress values it more than her own life."
"Let's go check things out tonight," Zhou Lang said, taking out an oil lamp.
The two quietly approached the room of the landlady on the first floor.
Chewing sounds came from the room.
Zhou Lang peered through the crack in the door. The landlady opened the ceramic jar, and a baby covered in bluish-purple crawled out. The baby was clutching a skull fragment, which it didn't know where it had gotten from, and was gnawing on it.
