A bizarre and terrifying experience; I messed up the dungeon world.
Chapter 25 Basement Monster
The basement was so damp it was nauseating, the walls were covered in black mold, and it smelled of decay.
Zhou Lang walked forward, holding an oil lamp. The green light illuminated a narrow passage. Iron chains were nailed to the walls on both sides, with dried bloodstains still hanging on them.
"What exactly was locked up here?" Zhao Qiang's voice trembled.
"Don't speak," Zhou Lang said in a low voice. "Something's moving."
At the end of the passage appeared a second door. The door was unlocked, and there was only a palm-sized groove filled with dark red liquid.
Blood Lock.
Zhou Lang remembered what the bandaged man had said: it required the blood of a ghost to open it. He glanced at his bandaged right hand, hesitated for a moment, and then cut open his palm.
Blood dripped into the groove, and the door clicked open slowly.
"Are you crazy?!" Han Yingying tried to stop her, but it was too late.
"It's alright, my blood is considered ghost blood now too." Zhou Lang shook his hand; the wound had already healed.
Behind the door was a larger space, like an operating room. In the center was a rusty operating table with a corpse strapped to it.
No, it's not a corpse.
That thing is moving.
Zhou Lang raised the oil lamp and saw clearly what was on the operating table.
It was a pieced-together humanoid figure, with a child's head, an adult's body, and limbs from different people; the stitching marks were horrifying. Most terrifyingly, this thing was alive, its chest heaving, its eyes wide open, staring intently at them.
"Help...me..."
The assembler made muffled sounds, his mouth open and stuffed with needles and thread.
Zhao Qiang vomited immediately.
Han Yingying covered her mouth, her face pale.
Zhou Lang forced himself to stay awake and approached, noticing a notebook next to the operating table. He opened to the first page, which read:
"Experiment log day 1: Successfully pieced together three corpses, but could not be revived."
"Day 7 of the experiment: Attempt to use living human organs, but the results were still unsatisfactory."
"Experimental record on day 30: It was found that only people who died in extreme fear could retain their organs."
Zhou Lang grew increasingly horrified as he read on. How many people had this mad director killed in his quest to resurrect someone?
"Day 90 of the experiment: She finally opened her eyes, but quickly closed them again. I need more materials, more perfect materials."
"Experiment Log Day 120: The game has begun, and materials will be delivered to my door in an endless stream. I'm sure I'll succeed."
That concludes my notes.
Zhou Lang closed his notebook and looked at the assembled mannequin on the operating table. This thing must have been one of the dean's experiments, but it had obviously failed.
"We have to go," Han Yingying said, tugging at Zhou Lang's sleeve. "It's too scary here."
"Wait a minute." Zhou Lang noticed a cabinet under the operating table. He opened it and found various organs neatly arranged inside, all soaked in formalin.
There was a roll of white bandage inside.
Zhou Lang picked up the bandage; it was what he had promised the bandage-wearing man he would find.
"Let's go." He turned to leave, only to find that a third door had appeared on the other side of the operating room at some point.
The door was black, without any decoration, and stood there quietly.
Heart lock.
Zhou Lang walked to the door and reached out to push it open, but the door didn't budge.
"Make yourself believe that what you want most is behind the door..." he murmured to himself.
What do you want most?
Survive? Find her sister? Or leave this awful place?
Zhou Lang closed his eyes, and his sister's face appeared in his mind. She always smiled, patted his head, and said, "Langlang, don't be afraid, your sister is here."
But now my sister is gone.
She disappeared in a horror game, her fate unknown.
Zhou Lang wanted to find her, to know if she was dead or alive, and to hear her call out "Lang Lang" again.
The thought grew stronger and stronger, so strong that he felt he could see his sister as soon as he pushed open the door.
The door opened. It was completely dark inside; you couldn't see anything.
Zhou Lang carried the oil lamp inside. Zhao Qiang and Han Yingying wanted to follow, but they were blocked by an invisible force.
"Zhou Lang!" Han Yingying pounded on the door. "Can you hear me?!"
But Zhou Lang could no longer hear it.
He walked into the darkness, and the light of the oil lamp grew dimmer and dimmer until it went out completely.
A deathly silence fell over the surroundings.
"Sister?" Zhou Lang called out tentatively.
no respond.
He continued walking forward, and heard the sound of water under his feet. Looking down, he saw a layer of blood on the ground.
The blood seeped deeper and deeper, from the ankle to the calf, and then to the knee.
Zhou Lang wanted to go back, but found that the door behind him had disappeared.
"Damn it," he cursed, but could only keep going.
Blood rose to his waist, and a tremendous pulling force came from below, as if something was tugging at his legs.
Zhou Lang struggled to float to the surface, but the force was too great, and he was dragged into the bloody water.
A feeling of suffocation washed over him, and the cries of countless people filled his ears, the sounds overlapping and piercing his head.
Just when he thought he was going to die, his feet touched solid ground.
The blood stopped flowing, and Zhou Lang lay on the ground coughing violently, spitting out several mouthfuls of blood.
When he calmed down, he found himself in a room.
The room was small, containing only a bed, a wardrobe, and a dressing table. The walls were covered with faded wallpaper with small floral patterns.
This room... Zhou Lang felt it looked very familiar.
He walked to the dressing table, where a photograph was displayed. The photograph showed a young woman with a gentle smile.
Zhou Lang's hands began to tremble.
This is his mother.
"No..." He shook his head. "This isn't true. My mother died a long time ago."
"Yes, I'm dead."
A voice came from behind him, and Zhou Lang turned around abruptly. He saw the woman standing at the door, still the same as in the photo, wearing a floral dress and smiling gently.
"So you should die too, Langlang."
The woman walked over and reached out to touch Zhou Lang's face, causing Zhou Lang to instinctively step back.
"You are not my mother."
"Of course I am," the woman laughed. "Have you forgotten? You were right there watching your father and I die."
Zhou Lang's expression changed.
That was the last thing he wanted to remember.
His parents died in a car accident. He sat in the back seat and watched helplessly as the car plunged off the cliff and his parents struggled in the flames, but he could do nothing about it.
"You watched us die, yet you survived." The woman's smile turned sinister. "Don't you feel any guilt?"
"I..." Zhou Lang opened his mouth, but couldn't say anything.
"Come on, Langlang." The woman stretched out her hand. "Come with your mother, and our family will be reunited."
Zhou Lang stared at the hand, his mind a complete mess.
He knew it was an illusion.
But those memories were so real that he couldn't distinguish between reality and illusion.
Just as he hesitated, the bandage on his right hand suddenly moved.
"Wake up! This is a test of your heart!" The bandaged man's voice exploded in my mind. "It's exploiting your guilt! Don't be fooled!"
Zhou Lang suddenly snapped out of his daze, his eyes turning icy as he looked at the woman in front of him.
"My mom wouldn't say something like that."
He raised his right hand, and the bandage flew out, wrapping around the woman's neck.
The woman's face began to contort, her skin cracked, revealing rotting flesh inside.
"How...did you...find out...?"
"Because my mom never calls me Langlang." Zhou Lang pulled hard, and the woman's head fell off, her body turning into black mist and dissipating.
The room began to collapse, the walls cracked, revealing the true scene behind it.
