But then Han Yingying called.

"Don't you find it strange?" Her voice was very low on the other end of the phone. "It's too quiet."

"The calm before the storm?"

"I checked the data. Over the past six weeks, there have been an average of seventeen documented bizarre incidents per week. But this week—zero."

"zero?"

"Not a single one. Not just decreased, but completely disappeared. This is not normal."

Zhou Lang stood by the dormitory window, holding his phone and looking out. The streetlights on campus were on, and students walked by in twos and threes; everything seemed perfectly ordinary.

"you mean--"

"I didn't mean anything by it. I was just saying that the log I saw in the manor's basement last time said that the strange infiltration was carried out through a vulnerability. If the vulnerability is accumulating energy—"

She didn't continue.

Zhou Lang understood her reasoning. The strange events hadn't disappeared; they were brewing. When they erupted again, their intensity would far exceed anything seen before.

"Be careful," he said.

Zhou Lang pushed open the door to room 103. The room was empty except for a photograph pinned to the wall.

The photo shows a little girl, about seven or eight years old, with a ponytail. Her eyes have been crossed out with a black marker.

The caption below the photo reads: "I just want to find my way home."

Zhou Lang peeled off the photo and turned it over to the back, where a code was printed: BUG-0.0.7.

It's 0.0.7 again.

He took a picture and put it in his pocket.
