Ms. Gojo thought she was dating an ordinary person's boyfriend.

Chapter 36 "Unable to Draw Normal Conclusions"

The weather in Tokyo was lovely. Sunlight streamed in through the window at the end of the corridor, falling on the old wooden floor and dappling the surface with light, which was then cut into squares by the window frame.

Gojo Satoru leaned against the vending machine, holding a can of coffee in his hand.

Of course, he didn't want to drink it himself.

He personally prefers drinks that are so sweet they make ordinary adults frown; canned black coffee simply doesn't suit his taste.

But he still bought a can, held it in his hand and shook it, as if he was waiting for someone to come back.

This is what Nanami Kento saw when he came up the stairs.

A white-haired man stood in the corridor, his posture so languid it seemed he belonged to no work setting at all. An eye mask covered his eyes, a nonchalant smile played on his lips, and the coffee can in his hand clinked softly with his movements.

Nanami Kento paused almost imperceptibly.

He then quickly regained his composure.

"Mr. Gojo."

"Nanami, you've worked hard."

Gojo Satoru raised his hand and tossed the coffee over.

Nanami Kento caught it and glanced down at it.

Black coffee.

There's not even a trace of sugar.

He paused for a second.

"Thanks."

"Am I thoughtful?"

"If you mean buying a can of coffee for someone who has just completed a survey, then let's assume that's the case."

"Wow, so indifferent."

Gojo Satoru followed in his footsteps with a smile.

Nanami Kenji didn't stop immediately, but walked all the way to a quieter meeting room.

There weren't many people at the college in the morning; the students were still in the training field or classrooms, and only a few indistinct conversations could be heard in the distance in the corridor.

Once the conference room door was closed, the sounds from outside were shut out.

Qi Haijian placed the folder in his hand on the table.

"Mr. Gojo."

"Um?"

"I have completed my investigation into the two cases of the disappearance of cursed spirits that I was asked to confirm before."

Gojo Satoru leaned against the door, his hands in his pockets, his smile unchanged.

"And the result?"

Qi Haijian opened the folder.

Inside were on-site photos, records of debris detection, reports from the supervisory team, and the original mission files sent from the other side of the window.

The conclusion is that no normal conclusion can be drawn.

Gojo Satoru raised an eyebrow slightly.

"Oh?"

Qi Haijian pushed the first report onto the table.

"The first incident occurred in an abandoned house in Suginami Ward. A level-two cursed spirit reaction was initially observed at the window, and the concentration of residual evil matched the report's description. Three non-magicians also showed signs of disappearing in succession. Mr. Gojo was originally assigned to handle the situation."

"Uh-huh."

"But the target's reaction disappeared before you arrived."

Nanami Kento turned to the next page.

"I re-entered the site yesterday and conducted a second check. There were no signs of combat, no remnants of spells, no records of accounts, and no physical damage such as ordinary fires, explosions, or collapses. The site was unbelievably clean."

Gojo asked, "What about the remaining impurities of the curse?"

"Almost none."

Nanami Kento paused for a moment.

"It's not the faint residue left after being exorcised, nor is it the dissipation after being crushed by powerful curses. It's more like... the target was never there at all."

There was a moment of silence in the conference room.

A breeze rustled through the treetops outside the window, and the shadows of the leaves swayed gently on the glass.

Gojo Satoru remained silent.

Qi Haijian continues.

"The second incident, initially classified as Quasi-Level 1, occurred in an old passageway of an underground shopping mall near Ikebukuro. The reaction recorded through the window was clearer, and two assistant supervisors confirmed the same coordinates. Ten minutes before the mission was canceled, the cursed spirit's reaction suddenly disappeared from the detection range."

"on site?"

"There were no signs of combat either."

Nanami Kento spread out the photos.

The old passageway's cement walls, dusty floors, and abandoned warning signs in the corners all remain in their long-term closed state.

There was no bloodstain, no scorch marks, no damage from the spell, and none of the lingering remnants commonly found after a cursed spirit has been exorcised.

"I checked the initial observation records over the window," said Nanami Kento. "The records showed no signs of tampering, and the auxiliary monitoring was not affected by cognitive interference. In other words, those two cursed spirits were indeed observed."

Gojo Satoru smiled.

"And then they disappeared as if they had never been there?"

"Yes."

Nanami Kento spoke with a serious tone.

"To be precise, it's not just disappearance. After they disappeared, all traces at the scene that could prove they ever existed were also erased."

Gojo Satoru lightly tapped his arm with his fingertip.

"Sounds like a spatial magic spell?"

"I've considered it."

Qi Haijian closed one of the reports.

"But if it's spatial transfer, it should still leave behind disturbances in the spell's power. Unless the spell's precision is so high that it can completely eliminate even the residual impurities, or the nature of the caster's spell's power is completely different from the existing detection system."

"The latter sounds like a lot of trouble."

"Mr. Gojo."

Nanami Kento looked up at him.

"Please don't discuss unknown techniques in a tone that sounds like you're commenting on a new dessert."

Gojo Satoru laughed out loud.

"Nanami is so strict."

Nanami Kento ignored this statement.

"There's one more thing."

He pulled out another page of information.

"According to the timeline provided by Mr. Ijichi, the time when those two cursed spirit reactions disappeared is very close to the time when you changed your itinerary."

Gojo Satoru's smile remained unchanged.

Nanami Kento looked at him.

"Mr. Gojo."

"Um?"

Do you have any leads?

After those words were spoken, the meeting room fell silent for a moment.

Gojo Satoru did not answer immediately.

He leaned against the door, still looking nonchalant, but Nanami Kento knew that this man was definitely not ignoring what he was saying.

Gojo Satoru, of course, listened to her advice.

The two cursed spirits vanished completely.

There was no filth, no battle, no trace of purification.

It's like someone gently erased it from the world record.

And this is not the first time this anomaly has occurred.

Last time, he met Sumi Kichikawa before going on a mission.

As a result, the task was canceled.

The last time, he was supposed to handle a temporary case, but ended up spending the afternoon with Sumi Kichikawa at the bookstore.

The afternoon's tasks were thus left undone.

Coincidences are cute when they happen once or twice.

If there are enough of them, they will become clues.

Gojo Satoru lowered his head, and the corners of his lips slowly curved up.

Sikawa Cheng.

Dr. Xiaocheng.

So far, there is no abnormality in his magical power.

Six eyes cannot see lies, but can see too many things.

Within the sorcerer's judgment system, Sumi Kichikawa is indeed almost as clean as ordinary.

This actually makes things more interesting.

Nanami Kento frowned slightly when he saw that he didn't speak.

"Mr. Gojo?"

Gojo Satoru raised his head.

"Nanami."

"Yes."

"If there were a kind of cursed spirit in the world," Gojo Satoru said slowly, "that would make me disappear whenever I come into contact with it, wouldn't that mean I'm so popular that even cursed spirits are shy?"

Nanami Kento: "..."

He stared at Gojo Satoru with a blank expression.

"Please be serious."

"I'm very serious."

"It doesn't look like it."

"I think it's quite obvious."

"..."
