Ms. Gojo thought she was dating an ordinary person's boyfriend.
Chapter 25 "The doctor even comforted me instead"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone.
Kikawa Sumi lowered her eyes, her gaze still fixed on the pink-haired boy in the center of the crowd.
The child in the boy's arms had already been taken by his mother, who was crying uncontrollably, while the mother trembled and repeatedly thanked her.
The pink-haired boy knelt on the ground, his arms scraped and his knees bruised. His sleeves were dusty, and there was a bloody mark from where his palm had been pressed against the ground.
But he didn't seem flustered at all.
They were even comforting the child who was crying so hard he could hardly breathe.
"It's okay, it's okay, I'm fine now." The boy waved his hand with a smile. "Look, I'm fine too, I'm perfectly healthy!"
The child cried even harder.
The boy panicked immediately: "Huh? Why are you crying even harder? Is something hurting? Oh, or are you scared?"
Kikawa Sumi looked away and said to the person on the other end of the phone, "I'm fine, I'm far away."
Send me your location.
Gojo Satoru's voice had completely lost its previous lightness.
He usually spoke with a smile, as if he could easily brush aside anything. But at this moment, all those playful undertones disappeared.
Sumire Kawakawa paused for a moment.
He could tell that Gojo Satoru was worried.
So he said directly, "Okay. I'll handle the scene first and wait for the emergency personnel to arrive."
Gojo Satoru's voice softened slightly.
Don't force yourself.
"I know," said Sumi Kichikawa. "I'll check if it's safe first."
"Okay," Gojo Satoru said, "So send me the location."
"Okay, I'll send it to you," he said. "Don't worry, I'm really fine."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, then Gojo Satoru chuckled softly and spoke in a slightly gentler tone.
"The doctor actually comforted me instead?"
"Because you sound like you need comforting."
"That's too much."
"I'm just stating the facts."
After finishing speaking, Sumire Kichikawa hung up the phone, sent the location, and then dialed the emergency number.
People nearby had already called the police, and others had gathered around to check on the truck driver.
The driver was slumped over the steering wheel, looking somewhat dizzy, but still conscious. He staggered out of the car, and it seemed that some of his colleagues had already surrounded him to ask him questions.
The guardrail was bent from the impact, the front of the car was dented, and the air was filled with the acrid smell of rubber from friction.
Sumi Kichikawa quickly scanned the scene.
The vehicle has come to a complete stop, there is no risk of a secondary collision, and there is no obvious fuel leak on the ground.
Although the crowd was chaotic, some passersby had already begun to maintain social distancing.
After confirming these things, he quickly walked through the crowd.
"Excuse me, could you move aside?" His voice wasn't loud, but it was steady. "I'm a doctor."
The crowd automatically parted a little.
The pink-haired boy was trying to stand up.
Kikawa Sumi knelt down in front of him and gently pressed her hand on his shoulder.
"Don't move yet."
The boy paused for a moment, then looked up at him.
Those were very bright eyes.
Amber in color, clean, with a hint of bewilderment from not yet fully comprehending the situation.
His short pink hair was messed up from his earlier movements, his cheeks were smudged with dust, and his arm was still bleeding, but when he saw Sumi Kichikawa, his first reaction was to smile a little embarrassedly.
"Oh, Doctor?"
"Yes." Sumi Kikawa looked into his eyes. "I'm a doctor at Tokyo Metropolitan Hospital. Can you answer a few questions for me first?"
The boy immediately nodded: "Okay!"
"name?"
"Hiruhito Itadori," the boy replied quickly.
"age?"
"Fourteen... ah, no, almost fifteen." Yuuji Itadori paused for a moment, then added, "It's still fourteen."
Sumi Kichikawa couldn't help but smile.
"Okay, fifteen-year-old Itadori-kun," he said, "did you bump your head just now?"
Hisahito Itadori immediately shook his head: "No, no! I just wiped it, it's really nothing."
"Do you experience dizziness, nausea, or blurred vision?"
"no."
Chest pain? Difficulty breathing?
"no."
"My hands and feet are numb? Where can I not move?"
"No, not at all."
While asking questions, Sumire Kichikawa checked his pupil response and also confirmed the movement of his neck, shoulders, and limbs.
There were indeed no obvious signs of fracture.
Breathing is steady.
His heart rate remained quite stable despite the stress following the accident.
The child rushed into the lane at that speed, then, holding another child, forcibly changed direction and tumbled to the ground in front of the out-of-control vehicle. Even a normal person could do that; the impact would have resulted in far more than just these abrasions.
But Hisahito Itadori's condition is too good.
It's abnormally good.
Kikawa Sumi lowered her eyes and took out disposable gloves, disinfectant wipes, and sterile gauze from her bag.
"I need to treat my wound; it'll hurt a bit," he said. "If it hurts, just say so. Don't pretend it's nothing."
Yuji Itadori paused for a moment.
Then he scratched his face a little embarrassedly.
"Do I look like I'm pretending nothing's wrong?"
Kikawa Sumi unfolded the cotton pad and said gently, "Do you know that you just said 'I'm really okay' three times?"
Japanese knotweed Hisahito: "..."
Kikawa Sumi looked up at him, a faint smile in her eyes.
"Doctors usually interpret this as indicating that the person is under close observation."
Hisahito Itadori couldn't help but laugh.
"The doctor is amazing."
"It's not that impressive, it's just experience," said Sumi Kichikawa. "Especially for kids your age, eight out of ten will say they're fine after falling down."
Hisahito Itadori immediately protested, "Fifteen years old isn't a child anymore, is it?"
"In the pediatric clinic, 15-year-olds are still considered part of my patient range."
Hisahito Itadori was shocked: "Eh—"
Sumi Kichikawa applied the alcohol swab to his wound.
Hisahito Itadori immediately hissed.
"Don't you still consider yourself a child?"
Yuji Itadori hesitated for two seconds before finally admitting honestly, "...It's a bit like it when it hurts."
The smile in Sumire's eyes became more pronounced.
"Then sit down, little one."
"Doctor!"
Yuji Itadori protested verbally, but his body language betrayed him by sitting up a little more steadily.
Sumi Kikawa cleaned the abrasions on his arm.
The wound was not deep, and the bleeding was not much.
Logically, his arms and knees should have suffered considerable impact from falling to the ground like that, but his wounds do not show that.
Strong physical fitness.
They are also physically strong.
He's incredibly strong, unlike any ordinary person.
Sumi Kichikawa did not voice this unusual detail.
He simply continued, "Have you had any underlying medical conditions recently? Asthma, heart disease, hypoglycemia?"
"No," Hisahito Itadori said. "I've always been in good health."
"That speed just now..." Sumire Kichikawa paused, then changed to a more natural way of saying, "Do you exercise a lot?"
"Hmm!" Yuuji Itadori immediately perked up. "I'm pretty good at sports. The track and field club used to invite me, but I wasn't a member."
"Not a member and yet so fast?"
"My grandfather used to say I had amazing stamina," Yuji Itadori laughed. "But I really didn't think too much about it just now; I just rushed over when I saw the kids there."
"If you see someone, go and rescue them" is something that requires absolutely no hesitation.
Sumi Kichikawa's hand movements slowed down for a moment.
He looked at Hisahito Itadori.
The boy was still covered in dust, his arm bandaged, but his gaze kept drifting to the little girl being held by her mother. He visibly relaxed when he confirmed that the little girl's crying had subsided.
"Is she alright?" Hisahito Itadori asked.
"It looks like he was just startled," Sumi Kikawa said. "The paramedics will check him again later."
"That's good."
