Once the bedroom was quiet, Fu Yan asked softly, "Would you like to get up and have breakfast?"

Wenren Lei glared at him, then rolled over and burrowed into the blankets, leaving her backside facing him. Fu Yan was the worst kind of man; he only knew how to avoid the important issues.

Fu Yan wasn't sure if this was anger or an invitation, so he suppressed a laugh and said, "I promise I won't make you cry again."

Wenren Lei actually quite enjoyed that overwhelming thrill, but now he wanted to throw a little tantrum and muttered, "You're just lying."

"From now on, I'll do whatever you tell me to do."

Wenren Lei poked her head out and looked back: "Really?"

"Of course."

"I'd like to be up there too?"

Fu Yan almost laughed and said, "Of course, that would be very pleasing to the eye."

Wenren Lei and Fu Yan were clearly not on the same wavelength. He crawled out from under the covers and asked Fu Yan for a promise: "It's a deal, next time I'll be on top."

"It's a deal." Fu Yan gently flicked the tip of his nose. "Can we go have breakfast now?"

Wenren clenched her fists, then got out of bed and said, "Let's go."

Fu Yan glanced down at himself, then turned and went into the bathroom.

Wenren Lei was starving, so she sat down at the table and devoured three large sandwiches to fill her stomach.

He then slumped in the dining chair, rubbing his belly, and slowly drank a glass of warm milk.

Fu Yan emerged from the bedroom, still damp from the shower. Wenren Lei asked, "Why are you taking a shower again?"

Fu Yan sat down beside him: "Guess."

At this moment, A1-V reported: "Master, the surveillance footage has been transmitted back."

"Hmm." Wenren Lei temporarily let Fu Yan off the hook and said lazily, "Open it and take a look."

The surveillance footage was projected into the air.

The scene shows a hotel room. The room is very messy, and the four men from the research institute are lying haphazardly on the bed and sofa, looking very peaceful.

Wenren Lei looked at it for a while, then asked, "Is it asleep or dead?"

"They're already dead," Fu Yan said. "Their chests aren't rising and falling."

"You're kidding me, right?" Wenren Lei found it hard to accept that his clues were dead. He ordered A1-V, "Have your little flies prick them."

A1-V randomly picked someone and stabbed him around the nose several times with a sharp fly leg, but the person didn't even flinch.

Wenren Lei stroked his chin and said, "No reaction at such a sensitive spot? Is he really dead?" He added, "Turn on the microphone."

"Opened".

Wenren Lei cleared her throat: "Brothers, eggs downstairs are free! First come, first served. Supermarket price, rock bottom! We're not making a profit, we're just trying to attract customers. This opportunity doesn't come every day, so seize it while you can! A gift for everyone who enters, and a chance to win big prizes with your purchase..."

He shouted at the top of his lungs for a minute, and the zombies in the hotel corridor broke down the doors, but the people from the research institute still didn't make a move.

The zombie that broke in caught the noisy fly, stuffed it into its mouth, chewed it to dust, and then lay on the corpse to eat its buffet.

Wenren Lei took a sip of milk and said with certainty, "It seems he's dead."

Fu Yan chimed in, "He's really dead?"

"Hmm." Wenren Lei had neither done anything meritorious nor worked hard, but he was so tired that he was a little short of breath. He slowly said, "Let's go and see which divine being has cut off my clues."

"Okay." Fu Yan picked up Wenren Lei and walked out.

As he got out of the car, Fu Yan turned back to Wanzi, who was following him, and said, "Kid, watch the house."

"Woof!" Maruko wagged her fluffy tail and plopped down on the door of the RV.

The two quickly arrived at the hotel where the research team was staying. A1-V said they were staying on the seventh floor, and Fu Yan immediately jumped in through the window with Wenren Lei in his arms.

Fu Yan kicked the glass and shattered it. He used the windowsill for leverage and jumped onto the windowsill, where he half-squatted.

Wenren Lei nestled in Fu Yan's arms and peeked into the room.

The room was poorly lit and filled with a strong smell of smoke. In the center was a small iron basin upside down, and around it were a few pieces of smoldering charcoal.

Six zombies were engrossed in eating when the sound of breaking glass startled them, and they all looked up.

Wenren Lei waved and greeted everyone: "Brothers and sisters, we're eating."

The zombies, smelling the scent of fresh humans, roared and charged forward.

But they were instinctively afraid of their own kind who were of higher rank, and when they were about to rush up to him, they silently retreated because of Fu Yan's presence.

After taking a few steps back, they rushed forward again upon smelling the human scent, only to retreat in fear when they reached them. The six zombies swayed back and forth rhythmically.

"They're very hospitable, there's even a welcome dance." Wenren Lei conjured a flowing pistol and coaxed the enthusiastic zombies to sleep one by one.

He jumped off Fu Yan and walked to the bedside to examine the body: "It's hideous. How did he die?" He glanced at the charcoal on the floor. "Was it carbon monoxide poisoning?"

Fu Yan walked over: "It doesn't seem like it." He leaned close to Wenren Lei's back and looked down. "From the surveillance footage, there were no obvious external injuries on their bodies. Judging from the state of the bed sheet, they must have struggled violently before they died."

Wenren Lei nodded. Most hotel sheets had the corners firmly tucked under the mattress, but here the sheets were all crumpled and lifted up. He pointed to one of the relatively intact corpses: "Even if bitten by a zombie, it wouldn't turn purple, right?"

Fu Yan said, "It will turn gray."

"Then why is it purple? It's almost bluish."

Fu Yan leaned over to examine the body closely. The skin of the corpse was a very light purple, which was difficult to see from the surveillance footage.

He took out disposable gloves from his spatial storage, put them on, and pried open the corpse's eyelids to look inside. The mucous membrane in the eye sockets clearly showed an eerie blue-purple color.

"It's most likely death by suffocation." Fu Yan took off his gloves and threw them on the ground.

Wenren Lei asked in confusion, "But there are no marks on their necks."

Fu Yan pondered for a moment: "Psychic-type ability users can do this, such as remotely extracting oxygen or directly suffocating people."

Wenren Lei was terrified and jumped onto Fu Yan, wrapping her arms and legs tightly around him: "Brother, save me!"

Fu Yan held him firmly by the buttocks and chuckled softly, "I activated the shielding ability when we got close to the hotel."

Wenren Lei nuzzled against his chest and said sweetly, "Mmm~ Brother Yan, you're so good~"

Fu Yan chuckled, pressed his head down, and whispered a warning: "Someone's coming closer."

Wenren Lei immediately became alert and asked in a low voice, "Which direction?"

"Emergency staircase, we've reached the fourth floor, five people."

"Could they be the ones who killed the people at the research institute?"

"Very likely," Fu Yan said. "Arrest him and question him."

"Good idea." Wenren Lei had another inspiration and whispered a plan in Fu Yan's ear.

Fu Yan smiled and said, "Okay."

After saying that, he picked up Wenren Lei and climbed out of the window. With one arm tightly wrapped around the person in his arms, he used the other hand to grip a small protrusion on the building, using the wall as leverage to move quickly to one side of the building.
