After driving through the city for half a day, Wenren Lei hadn't seen a single survivor squad. He guessed that there might be no other living beings in the city besides the four of them.

Aside from large-scale migrations like zombie hordes, zombies below level three don't move very far. Hundreds of thousands of zombies remain here, making it a breeding ground for them to fight each other and level up.

Wenrenlei saw from afar that a zombie was frantically devouring the crystal cores of its own kind, with huge remains of mutated elephants and tigers piled up at its feet.

"Brother Yan," Wenren Lei called softly.

Fu Yan immediately appeared beside him, still wearing an apron: "What's wrong?"

Wenren Lei raised her chin and asked, "What level is that zombie that eats its own kind at a buffet?"

Fu Yan glanced over and said, "Level three, almost level four."

"Kill him," Wenren Lei said. "Once he reaches level four and gains rationality, he'll be harder to deal with."

"Okay." Fu Yan lowered the passenger window and said calmly, "Come here."

Fifty meters away, a level-three zombie that was tearing its own kind apart suddenly stopped, slowly turned its head and saw Fu Yan.

It immediately dropped the tattered zombie in its hand, caught up with the moving RV at an extremely eerie speed, pushed off with its legs, grabbed the window, lowered its head towards Fu Yan, and let out a hiss: "Awooo..."

Hearing the commotion, Wanzi rushed out of the doghouse, stood in front of Wenren Lei, lowered its tail, bared its teeth and glared at the zombie, letting out a low, warning growl.

Seeing this, Wenren Lei picked up the meatball and held it in her arms to comfort it: "It's okay, it's okay, let your dad beat it up."

Only then did he get a clear look at the level 3 zombie—its scalp had been completely torn off, and pieces of flesh were missing from its body.

Wenren Lei looked at Fu Yan's back. When Fu Yan had just turned into a zombie, his body was gnawed even more badly than this zombie.

Fu Yan swiftly raised his hand and plunged the silver fork into the zombie's head. A few drops of dark red blood splattered out, and it instantly lost its life, rolling off the car window.

The A1-V automatically rolls up its windows.

Fu Yan turned around and noticed that Wenren Lei's eyes were red. He quickly stepped forward and pulled her into his arms: "What's wrong? Did the smell bother you?"

Wenren, with tears welling in her eyes, asked, "Does it hurt?"

Fu Yan glanced at the spot where the zombie had fallen and instantly understood what Wenren Lei was thinking.

When Fu Xing plunged the knife into his back, he was still conscious. The feeling of his flesh being torn apart by the zombie was still vivid in his mind.

He gently stroked Wenrenlei's head with his palm: "It didn't hurt. I was already dead then, I had no feeling."

Wenren Lei said in a muffled voice, "Fu Yan, you're lying."

You love to lie to me.

Fu Yan remained silent for a while before asking, "Are you hungry?"

Wenren Lei felt a tightness in his chest; his lover had not yet learned to be honest.

Wenren Lei decided to give Fu Yan more time. He covered his mouth with the meatballs as a mask and said, "I'm not hungry now."

"Then we'll eat it later." Fu Yan took the puppy away from his mouth. "Don't kiss it, or you'll get your mouth full of dog hair."

Maruko jumped to the ground, yelled, and ran to the living room to find Wenren Yu.

Wenrenlei turned her head away, spat twice, trying to spit out the dog hair from the corner of her mouth.

Fu Yan bent down to look him in the eye and wiped the dog hair from around his mouth with a wet wipe: "Are you unhappy?"

Wenren Lei shook her head slightly, wrapped her arms around Fu Yan's neck, and leaned in to kiss him: "Is this making you happy?"

Fu Yan chuckled softly, "Good girl."

"Bang--!"

The sound of chopping bones came from the direction of the kitchen.

The two of them turned around at the same time to look behind them.

Gu Zhengming was standing in the kitchen, struggling with a large bone, seemingly venting something.

Wenren Yu sat quietly on the sofa reading a book, casually stroking Wanzi's hair with one hand.

Wenren Lei's gossipy nature was instantly ignited, and she poked Fu Yan's shoulder, asking, "What happened between them?"

Fu Yan smiled mysteriously, lifted his apron and half-squatted down beside Wenren Lei, saying succinctly, "Gu Zhengming got beaten up while chasing your brother, he even got a concussion."

"Indeed, sir." Wenren Lei's eyes lit up, and she sat up straight instantly. "Explain in detail."

Fu Yan shook his head: "I don't know anything else."

"How boring!" Wenren Lei slapped her thigh in disappointment.

The RV drove into the city center, where the density of the corpses had reached its peak, to the point where people were shoulder to shoulder and the road was completely invisible.

If someone with less skill gets here, they can leave this world painlessly.

The A1-V charged straight in, smashing its way through, and stopped in the middle of the road, calmly announcing: "The spawn point of the Corpse King has been reached."

Fu Yan took off his apron, got out of the car first, and dispersed the surrounding horde of corpses.

Wenren Lei stood up and stretched: "Brother, let's go down and take a look."

"Okay." Wenren Yu closed the book, put Wanzi into the doghouse, patted the puppy's head, and said, "Be a good boy."

Maruko let out a soft "woof," curled up into a ball, and lay down to sleep.

When the two got out of the car, there wasn't a single zombie left on the road.

Wenren Lei walked to Fu Yan's side and said with emotion, "The best way to defeat zombies is to become the Zombie King."

Fu Yan asked, "Should we have them perform a scene where they dig out their own crystal core?"

Wenren Lei waved her hand dismissively: "It's disgusting, I'm not watching."

The snow in the city center was filthy and black, all the buildings had collapsed, and the concrete ruins looked like a hedgehog with countless broken and bent steel bars standing upright on its back.

The air quality was far from good; it was so bad it was suffocating, and the stench of decay was so strong it could make you rotten.

Looking at the dilapidated scene, Wenren Yu wondered, "Why would a research institute be located in such a busy area?"

Wenren Lei, already numb from the fumes, weakly said, "It doesn't seem like it. Don't they like to hide in the suburbs or mountains?"

Fu Yan looked around and said, "Something's not right with the building remains. The foundation of this museum has even reached above ground level."

"Oh?" Wenren Lei adjusted her non-existent glasses. "That's strange. How did you know there was a museum here?"

Wenren Yu obediently removed his non-existent glasses: "Great Detective, you're standing on something."

Wenren Lei looked down and saw a plaque with the name of "Xinchen City Museum" engraved on it, which she was stepping on.

He took a step back, quickly changing the subject: "But why was the foundation brought up to the surface?"

Fu Yan half-squatted on the ground and raised his hand to touch the foundation soil: "It's like there's something underground that has forced the museum, along with its foundation, out of the soil."

This sounds absurd, but now that even plants have evolved all sorts of strange abilities, what Fu Yan said actually makes sense.

Wenren Yu nodded slowly: "So you mean that the research institute surfaced, released the Corpse King, and then shrank back into the ground."

"That's possible," Fu Yan said. "There are no other living people left in this city. Why don't we just dig up the ground and take a look?"

Wenren Lei stepped on the hard frozen soil: "I'll be exhausted after digging this."

"You don't need to lift a finger." Fu Yan took out hundreds of impact drills and engineering shovels from his spatial storage and neatly arranged them on the ground.

Gu Zhengming had just stepped out of the RV when he saw the tools scattered all over the floor. He raised an eyebrow and asked, "You've taken on this construction project?"
