Wenren Lei, holding a flashlight, pushed open several doors, only to find them all pitch black and deathly silent.

He frowned: "How could this be? Meimei has been sending supplies and corpses into the research institute. There should be people here."

The instruments in the room were covered with a thick layer of dust, and the air was filled with a musty smell from a lack of ventilation.

"Brother Yan, are there any survivors here?"

Fu Yan listened attentively for a moment: "There isn't one on this floor."

Wenren Lei raised an eyebrow: "Then let's go underground and take a look."

As the two stepped out of the room, a gust of wind brushed against Wenren Lei's cheek. He hissed, "Who?!"

Fu Yan immediately replied, "A wind elementalist."

"Yan-ge, you go after him." Before Fu Yan could refuse, Wenren Lei quickly added, "I can manage on my own, trust me."

Fu Yan patted his head and said in a deep voice, "Be careful in everything."

Another gust of wind brushed past Wenren Lei's cheek, and Fu Yan disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Wenren Lei shone her flashlight and sighed, "The wind element is really capricious."

He continued searching the other rooms with his flashlight, and finally found the sheep's conveyor belt in the room across the corridor.

It was still working tirelessly to transport supplies. This time, there were no corpses on the conveyor belt, only a box of instant noodles that had somehow appeared.

Wenren Lei followed the direction of the conveyor belt. In order to transport supplies, Meimei demolished all the walls blocking the way, and the originally separate rooms were opened up and turned into a long corridor.

"Tear down the load-bearing walls too, lest they collapse and hit me."

After Wenren Lei finished complaining, she activated her supernatural ability to create a protective shield to protect herself.

The vines meandered all the way to the stairs, and Wenrenlei followed the steps down to the basement level.

The conveyor belt entered the room at the very front of the corridor. As Wenren Lei walked to the door, a muffled thud came from inside.

Wenren Lei cautiously peeked inside. The room was filled with all sorts of supplies. The thud just now was from the instant noodle box reaching the end of the conveyor belt and falling to the ground.

It looks like this room is a supply transfer station. The sheep bring things here, and then a special person takes them away and distributes them.

Wenren Lei looked at the mountain of supplies. The supplies that Xiaoshuqiu had shown him when he led the way were still there, but the two corpses were gone.

"Only human flesh and blood are needed, not food and water?"

There were trails of blood on the ground. Wenren Lei retreated from the room and slowly walked along the trails of blood.

Wenren Lei was alone in the silent corridor. A chill ran down his spine as he regretted not bringing Wanzi with him. With the puppy around, at least he could hear something.

The further you go, the stronger the smell of blood becomes, and the bloodstains finally stop at the door of a room.

Wenren Lei had a premonition that what he was about to see was not a good scene.

The door was pushed open a crack, and a strong smell of blood and the stench of corpses forcefully entered Wenrenlei's nose. Fortunately, he was mentally prepared and managed not to vomit.

He closed the door, took a deep breath, and then pushed the door open again to go inside.

The overpowering smell brought tears to his eyes. He covered his mask with his sleeve and scanned the room with his flashlight.

This is a single dormitory room. There is a table and chairs against the wall, and a single bed in the middle. The headboard is inlaid with an iron chain, which is stained with mottled blood.

Wenren Lei slowly walked forward.

In the innermost corner of the room, piles of worn-out clothes of various styles were mixed with fragmented human bones, almost reaching the ceiling.

Wenrenlei roughly estimated that there were over a hundred people in this group.

He took out three incense sticks from his spatial ring, lit them, placed them on the ground, clasped his hands together, and bowed: "Everyone, grandpas, grandmas, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, and cousins, I apologize for disturbing you. I was just passing by and will be leaving soon."

He turned to leave the room, but paused as he passed the table. When the flashlight shone on it, he was surprised to find that there was no dust on the table and chairs.

Wenren Lei turned around and looked at her, then smiled apologetically, "Um, excuse me for disturbing you again, I'll take a look before I leave."

He pulled up a chair, sat down, and opened each of the desk drawers to check.

The owner of the table is very clean; the items in the drawers are neatly arranged, including some medical supplies such as cotton swabs and gauze, as well as lipstick and hair ties.

The bottom drawer contained a light blue softcover notebook with a ballpoint pen clipped to it.

Wenren Lei picked up the notebook and flipped through it. The title page had the words "Ling Li" written on it.

"The key item has arrived so quickly." He clasped his hands together and bowed again. "Excuse me, Sister Ling, may I take a look?"

Turning the pages, I found Ling Li's diary inside.

The preceding text describes her life before the apocalypse, where she and her younger brother Guagua lived together in a small town, making a living by running a nail salon.

The siblings had a very good relationship, and the neighbors in the small town got along well. The words conveyed a sense of peace and gentleness, and the vibrant and tranquil life in the small town was vividly portrayed.

If it weren't for the apocalypse, Wenrenlei might actually come here to stay for a while, drawn by its reputation.

"Oh no, before the apocalypse, my older brother wouldn't let me leave the Acropolis," Wenren Lei muttered to herself as she continued flipping through her diary.

What followed made him frown.

August 17, 3035, Monday, cloudy.

A new clinic has opened in town; it doesn't treat patients, it only provides free physical examinations.

This is very strange; I have to warn Guagua to stay away from this clinic.

Wenren Lei tugged at her hair: "This Cataclysmic Research Institute appeared so early?"

September 11, 3035, Friday, sunny.

Guagua got his first perfect score since starting school, so I made him a two-tiered cake as a reward.

Recently, many people in town have wanted to go to the clinic for a physical examination, but I advise them not to.

But they give out eggs as part of the medical check-up, so they don't listen to me.

There are monsters in the street.

Upon seeing this, Wenren Lei let out a soft sigh. This was the day the apocalypse broke out.

October 16, 3035, blizzard.

The townspeople were running low on food supplies, and the clinic issued a notice seeking refuge for survivors.

Everyone went.

Guagua had a high fever for a week, so I had to take him to the clinic. They should be able to cure him.

October 28, 3035, cloudy.

Guagua awakened into a purification ability user, and the clinic arranged a private room for us and treated us very well.

The clinic said he might be able to end this apocalypse and asked if I would be willing to let them take Guagua away to cooperate with the research.

I felt uneasy and did not agree.

November 1, 3035, blizzard.

They forcibly took Guagua away.

And I was locked in this room.

Wenren Lei turned his head and glanced at the iron chain at the head of the bed. He paused for a moment, then continued to rummage down.

3035...

The person who delivered the food told me that they had thrown the melon away.

Guagua was still alive, but they threw him away...

She stopped turning the pages, her fingertips tracing the paper, which bore traces of tears and blood.

He noticed that the diary hadn't recorded what day of the week it was for a long time.

He thought about it carefully and realized that he himself was also unclear about this concept.
