With a warehouse full of supplies, I stood alone as king in this chaotic world, gun in hand.
Chapter 556 Black Market
Upon reaching the second floor, Li Shuang whispered, "Princess, there's something wrong with this inn."
She didn't believe the innkeeper was being kind by not even checking travel permits. If the authorities came to inspect the rooms and guests didn't have travel permits, the inn would be fined.
"Don't worry, everyone. Just go back to your rooms and get some rest tonight," Nangong Wu instructed.
This innkeeper is indeed suspicious. If this inn is a shady establishment, then the owner behind it must be someone of considerable influence.
"Understood," Adeline replied.
Previously, no matter where they went or which inn they stayed at, everything was under the princess's control.
He didn't know how the princess did it, but she had this ability: no matter where she was, she would never put herself in danger.
If this innkeeper dares to lay a hand on them, then this inn, and the owner behind it, will likely be in trouble.
Nangong Wu then said, "Let's go up to the third floor first, have dinner together, and then rest."
Everyone followed them up to the third floor.
There are twelve rooms on the third floor. Li Shuang first found the largest guest room and let everyone go in.
Nangong Wu went in and looked around. The main room was indeed very large, with two rooms, a desk, a large round table and a large low tea table.
"Let's eat at three tables! If there aren't enough chairs, we can bring some from other rooms."
"Yes!" Everyone started cleaning up together.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Qiao Xiangqing opened the door and saw a shop assistant standing outside the door carrying a kettle and a rag draped over his shoulder.
"Sir, I'll bring you some tea."
Li Shuang walked over and said, "Just leave the water bottle with us. You don't need to come up unless we call for help."
"Yes, yes!" The shop assistant put down the kettle, glanced around the room as he bent down, and then turned and left.
Qiao Xiangqing brought the kettle in and closed the door.
Nangong Wu brought out the food that Eileen had helped prepare and set it on three tables.
After everyone finished eating, she told them to go back to their rooms to rest.
Li Shuang stayed at the very back. "Your Highness, I will be on guard tonight."
"No need, with Eileen here, you don't need to worry. Go and get some rest," Nangong Wu said.
Upon hearing that Eileen would be keeping watch for them, Li Shuang felt relieved and replied, "Yes!"
Nangong Wu closed the door.
Eileen emerged from the space. "The children are already asleep."
"Thank you for your hard work. You'll have to keep watch tonight," Nangong Wu said.
"There's no such thing as hardship." Eileen patted herself on the back. "As long as I'm charged, I'm full of energy."
"Alright! You can play by yourself tonight." Nangong Wu took out a few miniature drones for her and then disappeared into the space.
As night deepened, the inn quieted down, with only the occasional bark of a dog coming from the street outside.
A cold wind howled outside, and the lights in the inn's corridor had been blown out sometime earlier.
Three quarters past midnight, three figures quietly went up to the second floor and tiptoed to the window of the first guest room.
One person looked around and then took out a small bamboo tube from his pocket.
Just then, a "buzzing" sound echoed in the corridor.
The man was startled and quickly put the item into his sleeve.
The three looked up and saw a small, dark mass hovering in front of them, its two wings flapping back and forth.
"Where did this unlucky thing come from?" The group thought it was a bird that had flown into the inn, and they were so angry that they picked up whatever they were holding to hit it.
The "little bird" suddenly flew away, then stopped at the entrance of the corridor, making a "buzzing" sound.
"Damn beast!" The man chased after him.
The "little bird" moved again and flew up to the third floor.
The three of them chased it up to the third floor, but it was gone. They assumed it had run away.
The three of them stood there for a while, and seeing that nothing was amiss, they walked to the window of the room where Nangong Wu was staying and took out the bamboo tube.
Eileen was sitting in the room, holding the "little bird" in her hand, a robotic bumblebee.
A pipe pierced through the window paper and wafted in, billowing thick smoke.
After a while, the latch on the door was slowly pried open.
The door was opened, and the three men, assuming the person inside had been drugged, swaggered in.
The man said, "This is the room where that young master is staying. He must have money on him. Search carefully."
"What do we do if there are more than twenty of them?" asked Person B.
"The more people there are, the less likely you are to keep them," Person C suggested.
"Of course, it's the same old routine. They've all slit their throats and been sent to the steamed bun shop..." The man saw Eileen sitting at the table, and the words he was about to say got stuck in his throat.
"This woman is still alive?"
"Kill her." The man raised his broadsword.
"Bang!" The sound of the door closing came from behind.
"Who?"
The three of them turned around in surprise.
"Me!" Nangong Wu crossed her arms and leaned her back against the door.
"We've been tricked! Kill them!" The man with the third sword raised his blade and slashed.
Suddenly he felt a force pull him, and then it was as if he stepped into thin air, and he fell downwards.
"Bang bang bang..."
Nangong Wu threw the three of them into the space, and then brought Eileen in with her.
The three thieves panicked at the sudden change in their surroundings, feeling like they had kicked a hornet's nest.
"Who exactly are you?"
"You have no right to know who we are." Nangong Wu produced a pistol and fired six shots into the thighs of the three men.
"Bang bang bang..."
The three thieves fell to their knees in pain, screaming in agony.
"Ahhh..."
Eileen drew a dagger and brandished it against the man's neck, asking, "Tell me, who owns this inn?"
The man was terrified, his eyes darting around. "I don't know what you're talking about! The three of us lost money gambling, we just wanted to recoup some of our losses. We'll never do it again, we have elderly parents and young children to support, please let us go!"
"Just lost money gambling? Then you said you were going to slit our throats and send us to that steamed bun shop, which steamed bun shop were you referring to?"
"I don't know anything about steamed bun shops, you must have misheard me!" the man argued.
Just then, there was another knock on the door: "Master."
It was Li Shuang's voice.
Nangong Wu flashed out of the space, opened the door, and saw Li Shuang and Qiao Xiangqing standing outside.
She pulled the two of them into the room.
"Fifth Sister-in-law, we all heard someone enter your room. Are you alright?" Qiao Xiangqing asked with concern.
She noticed the three people as soon as they went up to the third floor. Hearing the door open, she came out to check out the situation and saw that Li Shuang had also come out.
"I'm fine. Now that you're here, go and arrest that shopkeeper," Nangong Wu ordered.
Li Shuang's expression changed. "The people at this inn really did attack us!"
Nangong Wu nodded slightly. "Yes, you should go and capture the shopkeeper first, but it's best not to alert the person behind him."
