Director Jiang, don't let the divorce get out of control.

Chapter 26 You've already arrived?

"Hmm? Why are you telling me this?" Wen Ruan looked at her suspiciously.

She has no relationship with Ji Shiyan.

Lin Xia smiled and said, "I just thought you two knew each other, so I wanted to tell you."

"Thank you, but no need. I'm not very familiar with him."

"I see. Well then, you go ahead with your work, senior. There's a cocktail party after this."

"I know."

Wen Ruan put the water bottle aside and put her headphones back on.

Soon it was the second half, and when the foreign representative got to the seventh point, a slight static noise popped into Wen Ruan's earpiece, lasting less than half a second.

Wen Ruan was puzzled, but calmly translated the rest of the text.

Before long, the meeting ended. Wen Ruan went around to the back of the equipment to check it, but there was nothing strange.

But why is there background noise?

Wen Ruan accompanied the party as a translator in the evening.

She changed into a black knee-length skirt, stood in the corner holding a glass of sparkling water, and didn't seem to want to socialize.

While Suti and several foreign representatives were chatting animatedly on the other side, she finally got some peace and quiet.

Just then, a slow, unhurried male voice came from behind her.

"Director Jiang didn't come?"

Wen Ruan turned around and saw Ji Shiyan holding a glass of champagne, looking at her with a half-smile.

"He's still away on a business trip. Does President Ji need to speak with him?"

"Business trip? Where did you go?"

Wen Ruan frowned slightly. "Does President Ji usually care so much about other people's family affairs?"

"No, I'm just curious, did you know who your husband took with him during his three-day stay in Country D?"

Wen Ruan's fingers tightened slightly around the cup, but she said calmly, "Does President Ji know better than I do who the Director of the Foreign Affairs Department took on his business trip? Does President Ji have influence even within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?"

"That's a bit of an overstatement," Ji Shiyan said casually. "I just heard from a friend of mine in Country D a few days ago that he saw your husband and that reporter Jiang waiting to board their plane at the airport, chatting quite animatedly."

"Why did you go to all this trouble to find out my husband's whereabouts? Are you trying to sow discord between us? Or are you just bored?"

Ji Shiyan's smile faltered slightly, and he narrowed his eyes scrutinizingly. "I'm just warning you. Back then, you broke off your engagement with me but insisted on marrying him. I thought you had picked a certain kind of person."

"After getting married, he went on a business trip with someone else, and you were left alone at home. Wen Ruan, it seems your taste in men isn't very good."

Wen Ruan looked up at him and said calmly, "Mr. Ji is so concerned about my marriage, anyone who doesn't know better would think you still have feelings for me."

Ji Shiyan's smile froze, and the nonchalant look in his eyes instantly turned cold. "Wen Ruan, you—"

"I suggest you save your energy. My relationship with my husband is none of your concern. If you're really free, you can spend more time on your work."

After saying that, Wen Ruan turned and left unhurriedly.

Ji Shiyan's knuckles turned white as he gripped the cup, his face grim as he stared at her retreating figure.

It wasn't until his assistant cautiously approached him and said, "Mr. Ji, the foreign business partners want to speak with you."

Ji Shiyan withdrew his gaze and placed the cup on the table expressionlessly.

"Walk."

Wen Ruan walked out of the reception hall, went to the restroom to wash her face, and slowly exhaled the pent-up frustration in her chest.

Just then, her phone vibrated.

Jiang Yubai: [Is the party over? Do you need me to come pick you up?]

Wen Ruan: [You're back already?]

A flicker of surprise crossed her mind.

But then he remembered that he was on a business trip with Jiang Wanxing, and what Ji Shiyan had just said, and his joy instantly faded a bit.

Jiang Yubai: [Yeah, just got off the plane and am on my way home.]

Wen Ruan: [I'm almost done here. I'll take a taxi home. You should go home first and get some rest.]

Jiang Yubai did not reply, and a fleeting look of disappointment crossed Wen Ruan's eyes.

She forced herself not to think about him and instead opened Shen Yicheng's chat interface.

Wen Ruan: [Director Shen, there was a slight background noise in the simultaneous interpretation channel today, about half a second before the key sentence. Is the technical team able to find the log?]

Shen Yicheng quickly replied: "I'll have the technicians adjust it tomorrow. Are you sure it's an equipment problem?"

Wen Ruan frowned, thinking carefully. "I'm not sure. But it happened once before."

Shen Yicheng: [Okay, I'll have someone investigate.]

Wen Ruan put away her phone, hoping it wasn't done intentionally, otherwise it would be troublesome.

As the party ended, Wen Ruan walked out with the crowd.

The cool night breeze of early autumn brushed against her face. She looked down at her phone to call a car, and just as she opened the app, she caught a glimpse of a familiar black Rolls-Royce parked in front of the hotel.

Wen Ruan was taken aback. That looked like Jiang Yubai's car. Had he arrived?

Just as she was about to step forward to confirm, the rear door of the Rolls-Royce opened from the inside, and Jiang Yu loosened a button on her collar, her face showing signs of fatigue from a long flight.

He looked up and saw her, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Is it over?"

Wen Ruan looked at him, a mix of emotions welling up inside her. "Why are you here? Didn't I tell you to go home first?"

"It's on my way." His deep voice carried a hint of weariness. "Get in the car, let's go home."

"Mm." Wen Ruan nodded. When she got to the car, she subconsciously glanced at the passenger seat.

The dark glass reflected the streetlights, making it impossible to see if anyone was still inside.

She couldn't help but recall the scene when she bumped into Jiang Wanxing sitting in the passenger seat of the car last time, and her fingernails unconsciously pinched her palm.

Jiang Yubai reached out and opened the back door. Wen Ruan got into the car and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

She then smiled helplessly to herself, that scene seemingly becoming a shadow.

"Have you eaten?" Wen Ruan turned to look at him.

They hadn't seen each other for three days. It seemed he was really busy during his trip to Country D, as there were faint dark circles under his eyes.

"I ate on the plane, you haven't eaten yet, have you? I had someone send you food."

"Hmm..." Wen Ruan nodded, unable to resist asking, "Did the business trip go smoothly?"

"Not bad, have you finished discussing everything that needed to be discussed?"

"Oh." Wen Ruan hesitated, wanting to ask if Jiang Wanxing had gone along, but in the end she swallowed her words.

Asking would make it seem like she's jealous, which is really unnecessary.

"You rest now, I'll call you when we get home."

Jiang Yubai did not refuse and closed his eyes to rest.

Wen Ruan glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, feeling a pang of heartache and sadness.

The following afternoon, Wen Ruan arrived at Shen Yicheng's office.

"Director Shen, you wanted to see me?"

Shen Yicheng waved to her and pointed to a screenshot of a channel log on the computer, saying, "At the time you mentioned yesterday, the channel signal fluctuated for 0.8 seconds."

"The technical department determined that it was not a equipment malfunction, but more likely that there was an external signal rapidly turning the device on and off at close range."

Wen Ruan leaned closer for a look, her expression grave. "Can you trace the source?"

"At the time, no other equipment near the simultaneous interpretation booth was recording."

Shen Yicheng turned the page down, "But at the same time, the surveillance cameras on the east side of the venue captured Lin Xia walking out of the emergency exit, about twelve meters away from the simultaneous interpretation booth."

"Besides that, there were two other cleaners, about ten meters away..."
