"What are you doing?" Wen Ruan was bewildered.

Jiang Yubai calmly placed another plate of spicy stir-fried chicken in front of himself and explained casually, "Your mouth is sore, and spicy food can easily cause inflammation. Eat something bland for the next few days."

Wen Ruan watched as he ate the chopped chili fish coated in red oil without batting an eye, and then looked at the two dishes in front of her that didn't have a single chili pepper. For a moment, she didn't know what to say.

"I'm fine. It's just a small cut. It'll definitely be healed after a good night's sleep," she said softly.

"Mm." Jiang Yubai looked up at her, a barely perceptible smile appearing in his eyes. "I'll eat for you first."

Wen Ruan: "..."

How come she never noticed before that this person had such a cunning and childish side?

A few days have passed in the blink of an eye, and tomorrow is the opening ceremony of the foreign affairs visit.

Wen Ruan had been busy since morning, going over the speech draft several times.

Simultaneous interpreting has an extremely low margin for error; even a few seconds of pausing or a difference in terminology can lead to a major mistake.

When Jiang Yubai returned from his official duties, he found no one in the living room and assumed that Wen Ruan had already gone to sleep.

He went into the bedroom, only to find that the bed was empty.

Jiang Yubai frowned slightly, glancing out of the corner of his eye at a sliver of light shining through the study door.

He quietly pushed open the door and entered.

Wen Ruan was completely absorbed in her work and didn't notice anyone coming in.

Until the man's deep, magnetic voice rang in my ear.

"Why aren't you asleep yet?"

Wen Ruan was startled and turned around with lingering fear. She breathed a sigh of relief after seeing that it was Jiang Yubai.

"You're back?"

Wen Ruan glanced at the time in the lower right corner of the computer screen.

It's 10:30.

"Don't be nervous, just treat it normally." Jiang Yubai walked to her side.

"The speech is a bit long, so I want to familiarize myself with it a few more times."

"Get some rest early, otherwise you'll feel even worse tomorrow."

Wen Ruan blinked, only then realizing that her shoulders were terribly sore and her eyelids were heavy.

"it is good."

Just as Wen Ruan was about to stand up, two gentle hands suddenly landed on her shoulders, massaging her stiff muscles with just the right amount of force.

"Ugh..." The pain spread along her shoulder and neck, and she couldn't help but groan, quickly gritting her teeth to suppress it.

"My shoulders are so stiff." Jiang Yubai's gentle voice sounded especially pleasant in my ears.

Wen Ruan lowered her eyes, a faint blush creeping up her ears. "Thank you..."

Jiang Yubai patiently massaged her for fifteen minutes before withdrawing his hand. "Go wash up and go to bed."

"Hmm." Wen Ruan hurriedly turned off the computer, got up, and left the study without daring to look at him.

Unbeknownst to them, a faint smile appeared in Jiang Yubai's eyes behind his glasses.

The following morning, Wen Ruan arrived at the venue an hour early.

Inside the private simultaneous interpretation booth, she immediately set up the translation equipment. The test audio from the technicians came through her headphones, clear and without any background noise.

The floor-to-ceiling windows of the cubicles offer a panoramic view of the entire venue.

At 8:40, the attendees took their seats one after another. Her gaze swept across the room and accurately spotted Jiang Yubai in the second seat on the left.

Wearing a well-tailored black suit, with deep-set features and gold-rimmed glasses perched on his high nose, he exuded a cool and aloof air, making him stand out in the crowd.

Jiang Wanxing stood beside him. They were a perfect match, a handsome man and a beautiful woman.

Jiang Yubai listened intently to Jiang Wanxing's words, her expression one of tenderness she had never seen before.

Many staff members around them were saying that they were a perfect match.

Wen Ruan lowered her eyelashes, concealing the sadness in her eyes.

She felt like the third party in their relationship.

The opening ceremony began at 9:00 AM sharp.

Representatives from various countries took turns to the stage.

Wen Ruan lightly touched the translation button with her fingertips, and the moment the speaker on stage finished speaking, she simultaneously output a translation in German, French, and English, with perfect rhythm and without any mistakes.

"Miss Wen, you're quite impressive."

Seeing that Jiang Yubai's gaze remained fixed on Wen Ruan, Jiang Wanxing suppressed the jealousy in her eyes and smiled.

"She's always been amazing." Jiang Yubai stared intently at Wen Ruan's beautiful face.

Jiang Wanxing's smile faded slightly, but she didn't say anything more.

……

With ten minutes left, Wen Ruan stared intently at the manuscript the entire time, never glancing at the audience again.

As the last sentence concluded, applause erupted from all directions of the venue.

Wen Ruan took off her noise-canceling headphones, rubbed her ears, put the manuscript into a folder, and let out a long sigh of relief.

After finishing her work, she left through the side door and bumped into Jiang Wanxing as soon as she got around the crowd.

She was wearing a white business suit today, with a media pass pinned to her chest. When she saw Wen Ruan, she immediately greeted her with a beaming smile.

"Ruan Ruan, you've worked hard today. I listened to your simultaneous interpretation from below, and it was so steady that I couldn't find a single flaw. You're really amazing."

Wen Ruan smiled politely, "It's just my job."

"Don't be modest. I've been stationed abroad for many years and have met countless professional translators. Very few can match your level of synchronization accuracy. It's clear that you've put in a lot of effort."

Jiang Wanxing spoke sincerely, then changed the subject as if casually bringing up the past.

"Speaking of which, at that summit in Country X, Yu Bai told me that a simultaneous interpreter mistranslated a core technical term, which almost caused an international conflict."

"That's just how he is. He's very demanding when it comes to work, and sometimes it's no use trying to persuade him... He's been very stubborn since he was a child."

Her tone was familiar yet helpless.

Wen Ruan clenched her fists tightly, her expression unchanged: "It's fine."

Jiang Wanxing sighed softly, tucked a stray hair behind her ear, and continued to casually reminisce about the past: "It's not just work; he's used to bearing everything on his own, no matter what happens."

"Back then, when he was working long hours in Country X, I noticed something was wrong with his complexion and dragged him to the hospital for a checkup. That's when we found out he had a stomach hemorrhage. If we had gone any later..."

As Jiang Wanxing hesitated to speak, Wen Ruan's heart pounded in her chest, but she couldn't help but feel relieved that he was alright.

She would never have known about things like being able to block bullets or suffering from stomach bleeding if they hadn't come from Jiang Wanxing's mouth.

Wen Ruan realized more clearly that her understanding of Jiang Yubai was far less than that of Jiang Wanxing.

Perhaps it was because he allowed Jiang Wanxing into his world.

"Ruan Ruan, Yu Bai didn't tell you all this, did he? Did I say something wrong?" Jiang Wanxing realized belatedly.

Wen Ruan loosened her clenched fist, looked up at Jiang Wanxing, and said in a calm but firm tone, "No. However, Miss Jiang, you don't need to tell me everything in the future. Jiang Yubai has his reasons for not telling me."

Jiang Wanxing's expression froze for a moment, but she quickly recovered. "Okay, I was too talkative."

"fine."

"I'm going to find Yu Bai first."

"Um."

Jiang Wanxing walked past her, and Wen Ruan left the corridor with a normal expression.

Only after turning into an empty passage did he slowly loosen his palm, revealing several nail marks embedded in his flesh.

As she passed the entrance to the main hall, her peripheral vision caught a glimpse of the podium.

Jiang Yubai had finished his speech and stepped down from the stage; he was talking to Jiang Wanxing.

Wen Ruan didn't want to look anymore, so she looked away and walked quickly towards the entrance of the venue.

Inside the hall, Jiang Yubai glanced up at the door and caught a glimpse of Wen Ruan's hurried departure, his eyes darkening slightly.

He could tell she was down, but there were still a group of foreign guests to entertain, so she couldn't leave for the time being.

Wen Ruan took a taxi straight home.

Throughout the journey, Jiang Wanxing's words kept replaying in her mind.

That evening, Jiang Yubai declined the invitation to social engagements and returned home.

Pushing open the bedroom door, I saw Wen Ruan curled up on the bed, fast asleep.

He walked to the bedside, lowered his eyes to gaze at her sleeping face, his heart stirred slightly, and as if possessed, he reached out and gently touched her cheek.

The moment their fingertips touched, Wen Ruan opened her eyes.

"Sorry, did I wake you up?"

Wen Ruan shook her head, her gaze unconsciously shifting downwards to his stomach.

Jiang Yubai noticed her expression. "What's wrong?"

Wen Ruan pursed her lips, propped herself up on her elbows, and asked softly, "You've had stomach bleeding before?"
