Zhang Wenying, hiding in the corner, watched in stunned silence, almost bursting out laughing.

She originally thought that Li Wenjun would be completely under Pan Wenfang's control as usual, but she didn't expect him to pull this stunt.

This Li Lao Er finally acted like a real man for once.

Pan Wenfang covered her face, and tears finally fell. They weren't faked; they were from pain and anger.

She bit her lip, her voice trembling, "Brother Wenjun, you...you actually hit me?"

"I told you, I'm tired."

Also, go back and pay me back the money I spent on you over the past two years.

Pan Wenfang seemed to have heard the funniest joke in the world. Forgetting even the pain on her face, she widened her eyes and shouted in a shrill voice, "You want me to pay you back? Li Wenjun, you're a grown man, asking a woman for money you spent before? Have you no shame?!"

Li Wenjun turned around, his face no longer showing any of the previous infatuation and gentleness. He said coldly, "The money I spent on you was all my hard-earned money, saved penny by penny. Since you don't want to live with me, why don't you pay it back?"

"Either you promise me you'll get the marriage certificate before saving the person, or you return the money to me, and we'll be even, and never have anything to do with each other again."

Zhang Wenying, who was hiding outside the door, nodded secretly. She finally felt relieved. Her son had finally woken up. All the love she had given him had been worthwhile.

Pan Wenfang was speechless, covering her face and sobbing, "You were lying to me all along! You never liked me!"

"I did like you before, but I couldn't stand that you kept treating me like a fool."

Li Wenjun smirked, his tone full of sarcasm.

"You were so focused on Wang Dabao arranging a job for you, treating me like a fool. Now that things have gone wrong, you come to me without wanting to pay any price. There's no such thing as a free lunch!"

Seeing that crying was useless, Pan Wenfang decided to try a hard approach. She wiped away her tears, straightened her back, and her tone turned cold: "Li Wenjun, don't push your luck. I'm telling you this now: if you don't help me get my family out and don't give my brother a letter of forgiveness," she paused, her eyes full of threat, "if you don't agree, I won't talk to you anymore."

Li Wenjun didn't turn around, his voice several degrees colder, "If you don't leave, I'm going to call the nurse."

Pan Wenfang's hand froze in mid-air, her pitiful expression vanished, and she felt both angry and anxious, but dared not lash out.

She could tell that Li Wenjun was really getting impatient. If she continued to pester him, he might really turn on her, and then there would be no room for maneuver.

She bit her lip, swallowing back the words that were on the tip of her tongue. She picked up the bag of apples she hadn't given away and said softly, "Then, Brother Wenjun, you should rest well. I'll come see you again tomorrow."

After saying that, Pan Wenfang walked out of the ward, looking back every few steps, her pace very slow, waiting for Li Wenjun to call her back.

But Li Wenjun didn't say a word until she walked out the door.

The ward door was gently closed, and it remained quiet inside.

Zhang Wenying, who had been hiding outside the door, had already moved elsewhere, her eyes lighting up.

Hey, this idiot, he's finally starting to get it!

She didn't go in immediately. She watched Pan Wenfang walk away dejectedly with her head down before straightening her clothes and pushing open the door to the ward.

Li Wenjun was lying in the hospital bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Hearing the noise, he turned around, saw Zhang Wenying, and looked a little awkward. He called out sheepishly, "Mom, why haven't you left yet?"

Zhang Wenying walked to the bedside, glanced at him, and said, "Well done, at least you didn't make me worry for nothing."

Li Wenjun touched his nose and didn't say anything.

When Pan Wenfang pounced on him just now, he almost softened, but Zhang Wenying's words, "You're just a hat seller," kept replaying in his mind. Thinking about what Pan Wenfang had done before, he realized she had no sincerity towards him at all; she was just using him as a fool.

He then asked to get a marriage certificate, but Pan Wenfang kept making excuses, which finally brought him to his senses.

Pan Wenfang had been making empty promises to him, and he had been happy to accept them.

But now, he doesn't want to eat anymore.

Seeing Li Wenjun's expression, Zhang Wenying knew he had figured things out, and breathed a sigh of relief. She sat down and poured him a cup of hot water: "It's good that you've come to your senses. It's better to wake up sooner than to be stuck in this mess for the rest of your life."

"You can't outmaneuver a woman like Pan Wenfang. Break up with her as soon as possible." Li Wenjun took the water glass, nodded, and said in a low voice, "Mom, I understand."

If it weren't for his mother, he really wouldn't have been able to resist Pan Wenfang's sweet talk.

When He Caifeng returned home, she looked depressed.

Before she could even convince Zhang Wenying to benefit, her second brother and sister-in-law came to her house with their two children the next day after get off work.

"Caifeng, the children miss their grandma and insisted on coming to see her."

Fearing that He Caifeng would be unhappy, He's mother quickly pushed the two children forward and said with a smile, "Look, Da Bao and Xiao Bao have been talking about you for days, saying they miss their aunt."

Looking at her two nephews, He Caifeng knew perfectly well that her mother was using the children to play the emotional card.

"Auntie, I miss Auntie."

The two children had been taught by the adults, and they greeted the children sweetly as soon as they entered the door. No matter how annoyed He Caifeng was, she couldn't show it in front of the children. She could only force a smile, squat down and pat their heads: "Big Bao and Little Bao, be good. Auntie missed you too."

Upon seeing this, He's mother quickly brought out the prepared food.

He Caifeng took a look and exclaimed, "Wow! Braised pork, crispy duck, and a steamed sea bass—all hearty dishes!"

She sneered inwardly, but said nothing aloud, and invited everyone to sit down and eat.

This feast is better than when that old geezer was alive.

Even after the two children had eaten and drunk their fill, they still clamored for White Rabbit candy.

He Caifeng pretended not to hear, but her mother had already deftly pulled a handful of candy from her pocket and stuffed it into the child's hand: "Eat, eat, eat, Grandma has some here."

He Ersao rolled her eyes at He Caifeng and said sarcastically, "Oh, Mom, you really dote on your grandson. Unlike some people who earn so much money, they can't even bear to buy their nephew a piece of candy."

He Caifeng paused with her chopsticks and looked up at He Ersao.

"Second sister-in-law, what are you saying? The White Rabbit candy in Mom's pocket was bought by Wenhai and me. How did it become that I was reluctant to buy it?"

He Ersao was taken aback, her expression changed, but she still said with a fawning smile, "That's right, this is your home."

However, too much sugar is bad for teeth, so children should eat less of it.

"Baby, I saw a dumpling shop at the street corner. Let's go eat there when Auntie is free. It won't hurt your teeth."

Upon hearing this, the two children rushed over and knelt beside He Caifeng's legs: "Auntie, really? We want to eat dumplings!"

He Caifeng met the children's bright eyes, her heart softened, and she nodded: "Really, when you have time off this weekend, Auntie will take you to eat."
