Chapter 347 Welcoming Grandparents
They could just pack up and go.
Driven by Ms. Song's wish, Jiang Zhiyu set off without hesitation this time. However, she knew in her heart that picking up her maternal grandparents in the US was the top priority, and she needed to find a time gap. Since becoming pregnant, she had only delivered ore to Qian Weiguo's side twice, and hadn't had time to do so since. This time, she could take advantage of the break while picking up the grandparents to finish up the mining business as well.
She teleported once again to that uninhabited Gobi Desert.
She had already excavated part of this mining area, with the rest buried deep underground. Jiang Zhiyu stood in this uninhabited area, surrounded by the sound of wind and the soft rustling of sand. The heat wave distorted the distant horizon, and the air was filled with a dry and scorching atmosphere.
This time she was determined not to stay.
She cut off a portion, but some pieces were still exposed outside the rock strata. What if the US really discovered the anomaly of the mineral vein one day and came back to investigate? Wouldn't she be disgusted? She might as well use her space to cut it all clean and store it in the space piece by piece. It would be a hundred times more reassuring than leaving it outside.
Jiang Zhiyu took a deep breath, simultaneously unleashing her spatial abilities and mental power, cutting along the vein inch by inch. Huge blocks of rock were silently peeled away, gathered, and sunk into the depths of her space. After cutting through a wave, she would stop to catch her breath. When her mental power was exhausted, she would crawl into her space to sleep, and when she woke up, she would continue digging. When she was hungry, she would grab some dry rations from her space and eat a few bites, and when she was thirsty, she would drink spiritual spring water.
He worked alone on the Gobi Desert for a whole week, keeping his head down and working tirelessly.
On the evening of the seventh day, Seventeen's voice rang in her mind.
"Host, it's basically all gone. The entire vein has been completely looted. You really went all out! Look at you now, you're no different from a miner. You were supposed to come more than thirty times, but you only came four or five times a day. Do you know how many tons of ore that is? Seventy million tons!"
Jiang Zhiyu wiped her face, her hands covered in dust, and said irritably, "Nonsense, try spending a week in the Gobi Desert. But considering all this, it was worth it."
She looked down at herself; her trousers were covered in dry, hardened mud, her shoes and cuffs were all dusty, and she looked as if she had just crawled out of a kiln. Fortunately, the mine was now completely under her control, and the timing was just right for her to pick up her grandparents.
"Host, you'd better get yourself ready. If you go out like this, you might scare your grandparents and uncle's family."
Jiang Zhiyu thought Seventeen's words made sense, and she flashed into the space.
She stood before the bronze mirror by the spring and looked at herself. Good heavens, she was covered in dirt, especially her black trousers, where layers of dust were particularly noticeable. Her lips were chapped and peeling; even though she had been drinking spring water for the past few days, the Gobi Desert was just too dry, and her skin and lips were still dehydrated and irritated.
She took off her clothes and jumped into the spiritual spring, soaking for two whole hours. The warm water seeped into her pores, and her dry, cracked skin was gradually nourished and healed. When she came out of the spring, she was completely different. Her skin became moisturized and radiant again, and her lips no longer looked like they had been abused, though they were still a little dry.
She changed into clean clothes, tidied her hair, and after getting herself ready, she teleported directly to the gate of her grandmother's manor.
......
The manor's wrought iron gate was ajar, and the gardenias in the courtyard were in full bloom, filling the air with a sweet fragrance. Jiang Zhiyu pushed open the gate and went inside, but before she even reached the main house, Shen Peiyu heard the noise.
The old lady peeked out of the house, saw her granddaughter standing in the yard, paused for a moment, then smiled and took Jiang Zhiyu's hand and led her into the house.
"You silly girl, why didn't you call ahead again? You always just pop up out of nowhere. If you had told me a few days earlier, I would have prepared something nice for you."
"Grandma, I don't need anything." Jiang Zhiyu smiled as her grandmother pulled her into the living room, where she sat down on the sofa. She glanced around and asked, "Haven't Uncle and the others come back yet?"
She glanced down at her watch; her uncle should have been off work long ago.
As Shen Peiyu poured her tea, she waved her hand, "Hey, things have been really busy at the company these past few days. Your uncle's been coming home an hour or two late each time. Let's not worry about him, let's eat first. Grandma's going to cook you a bowl of noodles."
Jiang Zhiyu didn't stand on ceremony; she ate whatever her grandmother served. Shen Peiyu quickly cooked a bowl of chicken noodle soup and brought it over. The soup was golden in color and topped with bright green scallions. She picked up the bowl and slurped it all down. After putting the bowl down, her grandmother was about to bring her other food when Jiang Zhiyu quickly stopped her.
"Just have a bite to eat first, we'll eat together when Uncle gets back."
Shen Peiyu had no choice but to give up, sit back on the sofa, take her granddaughter's hand, and look her up and down.
"Are your parents alright? It's already difficult to contact them, and your grandfather and I are just worrying about them."
Jiang Zhiyu nodded. "My parents are both doing well. My mom is on summer vacation and is resting at home."
"How have you all been feeling lately? Don't hesitate to use the medicinal herbs I left for you."
Shen Peiyu glared at her, "Do your grandfather and I look sick to you? Do we need to take medicine every day?"
"You little rascal, you've gotten thinner and a bit darker this time!"
Jiang Zhiyu scratched her head. She couldn't very well tell her grandmother that she had spent a week mining in the Gobi Desert.
"Yeah, it's a bit sunny here, but I'll be back to normal in less than a week."
Actually, she's just a little thinner now. She's been mentally exhausted from mining these past few days, and her complexion isn't very good. Plus, she hasn't been eating properly these past few days, so she's lost weight.
Shen Peiyu stared at her stomach for a moment, then asked, "Hmm, you're recovering well. Is the baby alright?"
"They're fine, just two little rascals, always making a ruckus."
Just then, the sound of a car engine came from outside; Su Lixing and his family had returned.
"Yuyu is back!"
Su Lixing pushed open the door and saw his niece sitting on the sofa. His face immediately lit up with a smile, and he strode over to stare at his niece.
"Are your parents alright?"
"I was just telling my grandparents that they're both doing well."
Su Lixing stared at her face again, "Is the baby alright?"
"I'm fine, Uncle, don't worry, everything is alright."
Su Wenhao heard his cousin's voice from outside and rushed in through the back door, grabbing Jiang Zhiyu's arm.
"I told you I heard my cousin's voice, I can't believe you actually came back! Oh my! I missed you so much, why haven't you been back for so long?"
"I'm back now, aren't I?" Jiang Zhiyu laughed as he shook her.
......
After everyone was seated, Su Jinglun asked the cook to add a few more dishes, and the family sat around the table in the dining room.
Jiang Zhiyu then spoke, "Grandpa and Grandma, my parents bought a courtyard house near the school, and it's all furnished. They want me to take you back to live with them."
Upon hearing this, Shen Peiyu and Su Jinglun's eyes lit up simultaneously.
They dream of going back. Staying here doesn't feel like home; the cultural differences are too great, the food isn't good, and there's hardly anyone to talk to. If it weren't for the fact that they have a cook in the family who can cook Chinese food, the elderly couple would almost be depressed. Every holiday season, thinking of their relatives and friends back home makes them feel uneasy.
"Yuyu, are you serious? We can really go back?" Shen Peiyu grabbed her granddaughter's hand, her voice trembling slightly.
Su Wenhao jumped three feet high, leaping off his chair. "Great! I can go back now, right?"
Su Wenbin looked helplessly at his silly younger brother, who never cared about him at all. He spent his days walking the cat and playing with the dog or riding his motorcycle. His father had beaten him countless times since he was little, but the guy never learned his lesson. He would repeat the same mistake after being beaten this time, and he never learned anything.
Jiang Zhiyu nodded with a smile, "Grandpa, Grandma, and Wenhao can all go back."
Su Jinglun put down his chopsticks, pondered for a moment, and said, "Yes, your uncle and I emigrated overseas many years ago, and our household registration in China was cancelled long ago when we left. Now that we're returning to settle down in China, are there any procedures we need to complete?"
Jiang Zhiyu had already found out about this matter, and had even asked relevant people before coming.
"Just take your passport and submit your settlement application to the local overseas Chinese affairs office. However, there will be several layers of background checks, and the overseas Chinese affairs office will issue an official letter approving your return to settle in China. But I've already taken care of all of that for you. They've investigated your background eight hundred times over, so all you need to do is bring your passport."
Su Jinglun finally breathed a sigh of relief, picked up his teacup, and took a sip.
Shen Peiyu asked curiously, "Why did they investigate our backgrounds eight hundred times?"
Jiang Zhiyu smiled. "Do you think they didn't check when my uncle transported things back the first time? There's another reason, too, because of me."
Su Wenhao slyly approached Jiang Zhiyu and asked in a low voice, "Cousin, what do you do for a living? How are you so amazing?"
Su Lixing slapped his youngest son on the back of the head. "Don't ask questions you shouldn't. Kids like you always have to ask everything, pressing for answers until you get to the bottom of things. Don't you understand state secrets?"
Su Wenhao replied listlessly with an "Oh," and shrank back into his seat.
But the thought of returning to China immediately brightened his eyes, and he tugged at Jiang Zhiyu's sleeve, "Big cousin, you have to take me with you this time!"
"Okay, I'll take you. This time, I'll just pick up your grandparents and you. The rest of them have other things to do and can't come back."
Su Lixing thought for a moment, put down his chopsticks, and said seriously, "Actually, I also want to move all the business here back to China within three years. The domestic market is bigger, with a larger share, and you're all in China; it wouldn't be right to leave me here alone."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhiyu glanced at her uncle and her tone became serious, "Uncle, the reform and opening-up policy will be implemented by the end of the year. At that time, the domestic economy will officially take off, and we must seize the opportunity."
Su Lixing and Su Wenbin exchanged a glance, their eyes lighting up. They knew Jiang Zhiyu was no ordinary person; if even she said so, it meant there was great potential for her.
Su Wenbin was the first to speak, "Dad, I've wanted to go back to China for a long time. Although my business is booming here, I always feel like there's a barrier between us."
Su Lixing nodded. "Then it's settled. I'll finish up the remaining work here and try to move everything back within three years."
Shen Peiyu looked at the table full of people, her eyes slightly red, but her lips curled up in a wide smile. "Good, good, our family can finally be reunited."
Su Jinglun patted his wife's hand, then turned to Jiang Zhiyu, "Yuyu, thank you for your trouble."
Jiang Zhiyu waved her hand, "It's no trouble at all. I can't wait to bring you all back. My mom talks about you every day."
Su Wenhao was so excited he couldn't sit still. He paced around the restaurant, muttering about what he wanted to eat, play, and watch when he got back, before Su Wenbin shoved him back into his chair.
"Sit down and eat properly, don't slouch like a monkey."
Shen Peiyu smiled and put a piece of food on her grandson's plate. "Alright, alright, you can go crazy when you get back. Finish this meal first."
The group of people at the table were chatting and laughing...
Jiang Zhiyu lowered her head and took a sip of soup. Listening to the lively chatter of the whole family, the corners of her mouth unconsciously turned up.
