Chapter 312 Heading to San Du Ao
The news reached the courtyard early the next morning.
Jiang Zhiyu didn't delay; she tidied herself up and went out. Old Gao and Old Li were still waiting for her in the conference room. The two of them didn't waste any time and explained the decision to choose Sandu'ao as the location, as well as the advantages and disadvantages.
She nodded after listening.
Seventeen thought to himself, "Host, the location they chose is excellent. The surrounding islands are perfect for you to cultivate a plant barrier without interfering with the researchers."
"Yes, it's really good."
Old Gao patted her on the shoulder.
"Go ahead, Comrade Jiang, the helicopter is already waiting."
Jiang Zhiyu didn't mince words and followed the two guards straight to the military airport.
..............................
The plane kept stopping and starting along the way, requiring frequent refueling. At each military airfield, the flight mission had to be reported up the chain of command, and the entire flight path was monitored by the military. After more than ten hours in the helicopter, she was dizzy and her hearing was almost failing.
Upon arrival at the destination, the pilot circled over Sandu Bay and, after confirming that it was safe, landed on a secluded island tarmac.
When Jiang Zhiyu got off the helicopter, her legs were weak, her head was buzzing, and her vision was blurry. She desperately needed rest.
Upon arriving at the camp, she found a high-ranking military unit already stationed there, judging by its personnel and weaponry. Staff members led her directly to the work and rest area provided for her.
The room wasn't big, but it was clean and tidy, with a cot, a table, a chair, and a metal cabinet in the corner.
Seventeen exclaimed, "Host, the people here are really good at digging tunnels. From the outside, where would you see such a large cave in here? I've discovered that Chinese people really love digging."
Jiang Zhiyu wasn't in the mood to argue with it. She flopped onto the bed, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.
Midway through the flight, a guard knocked on the door to bring her food, but she turned over and waved her hand, unable to eat a single bite. The plane had been turbulent for over ten hours, leaving her stomach churning; even drinking the spiritual spring water didn't help much.
I slept soundly until the next morning.
When she woke up, her mind was still foggy, and her temples were throbbing. She drank another cup of spiritual spring water, and it took a while before she felt a little better.
There was a knock on the door.
"Comrade Jiang, are you up?"
Jiang Zhiyu got up and opened the door. Standing outside was a soldier in his thirties, with a straight posture and tanned skin.
"Hello, Comrade Jiang. I am Lu Zhenting, the battalion commander of the Anlan Garrison."
Behind him was a soldier, also in his thirties, who was half a head shorter than the one in front of him.
"This is our instructor, Gu Wenbin."
"Let's go to the cafeteria for lunch first, and I'll give you a rundown of the place while we're at it."
Jiang Zhiyu nodded and followed the two towards the cafeteria.
Lu Zhenting introduced the topic as he walked.
"Our current base is called the East China Sea Fleet's Sandu'ao Ship Equipment Testing and Defense Base, a covert designation used externally. Nearby fishermen only know it's a military industrial site on the back hill; the official information is that the Sansha Bay coastal defense restricted area has radiation and is off-limits."
He paused, then continued.
"We have two core defense zones here. One is the outer sea area's warning zone, and the other is the island's aircraft carrier berthing and research area."
Jiang Zhiyu nodded.
"Well arranged, this place is well chosen."
When they arrived at the mess hall, breakfast time had already passed, and there weren't many people inside. When the cooks saw the battalion commander and political instructor arrive, they quickly brought out the food they had prepared in advance.
The dishes were simple: a pot of seafood porridge and a few small dishes of pickles whose names I didn't know.
Jiang Zhiyu glanced at the bowl of seafood porridge and wrinkled her nose.
"Do you have plain white congee? I'm not used to seafood congee."
Master Tang immediately nodded, turned around and went into the kitchen to bring out a bowl of steaming hot white porridge.
Jiang Zhiyu ate two bowls of plain porridge with those few small dishes of pickles, and her stomach finally felt a little better.
She put down the bowl and looked up at Lu Zhenting.
"The higher-ups should have already told you. You don't need to follow me when I go out."
Lu Zhenting nodded.
"It was specifically instructed from above. There's a speedboat here for you to use."
"Okay, you guys go ahead and get busy. I'm going out for a walk and check out the surroundings."
...
Jiang Zhiyu sailed out to sea in the speedboat.
A sea breeze swept away most of the fatigue from the past few days. The sea view here is truly beautiful; the azure surface shimmers like scattered gold under the sunlight. Scattered around are many unnamed islands of varying sizes, all covered in lush, verdant vegetation.
She slowed the speedboat down and drove it in circles along the edge of the bay, her eyes scanning each island.
"It can indeed accelerate the growth of plants on the surrounding islands. The pervasive poisonous miasma will keep many ships away. They really chose an excellent location."
Seventeen chimed in, "There's practically no one here, and the situation on the island is complicated. Since it's a deserted island with dense jungle, no one would suspect anything."
"It seems the country has put in a lot of effort these past two months."
She stopped her speedboat near a secluded island and closed her eyes to sense the surrounding terrain.
"Let's set up an anchor point here. That way, if there's any emergency next time, we can teleport here faster. This place is quite large."
She restarted the speedboat and drove forward until she reached the estuary.
Dongchongkou is indeed narrow. Looking across from this side, there are cliffs and precipices, with seawater gushing out from the opening, which is more than two kilometers wide.
"This is it. You can cultivate some poisonous plants around here to create a miasma atmosphere."
"Yes, it's a good place."
She turned the boat around, and the speedboat drew a white arc on the sea.
"Alright, let's head back. We can launch the aircraft carrier tonight."
Seventeen reminded her, "Host, this commotion will be quite loud."
"There's nothing we can do. Fortunately, this area is already under the control of the military region, and the higher-ups have specifically informed them."
"Alright then, let the aircraft carrier go into the water tonight. Host, be careful when you release it; these things are very precious these days."
"I understand. I reckon those old researchers are already on their way here."
Jiang Zhiyu drove the speedboat back to the hidden dock, tied the mooring rope, and looked back at the bay as she went ashore.
The setting sun dyed the entire Sandu Bay orange-red, with the nineteen small islands scattered across the water like an unfinished game of chess.
She withdrew her gaze and strode towards the camp.
