Chapter 258 Shopping Spree on Antique Street
The first item was bought smoothly and quickly, and everyone's spirits immediately soared.
Jason waved his hand and led the group into the next house.
The shop's storefront was even smaller than Uncle Liu's. After going inside and turning two corners, the owner finally emerged from the back room carrying something. Upon seeing it, Jiang Zhiyu immediately started calling out "Seventeen!" in her mind.
Seventeen.
A thought struck her.
"How about this one?"
Seventeen flapped its little wings and scanned the thing from top to bottom, its voice tinged with disappointment.
"Host, I didn't sense any energy fluctuations from this item. It also doesn't contain any special elemental components. It's just a legitimate old object, with all the necessary age, but it doesn't match the type we're looking for."
Jiang Zhiyu nodded, looked up at Jason, and gently shook her head.
Jason immediately understood, gave the boss a laugh, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then led everyone out.
Jason walked at the front, counting on his fingers as he went.
"It's alright, we still have a few more. We'll scan them one by one, and we'll surely find one that suits your taste."
Jiang Zhiyu followed his words and made a mental calculation.
Along the way, she didn't just rely on Jason's intelligence; she also secretly exerted her own efforts. Every time she entered a shop, she would use her mental energy to scan through all the items hidden at the bottom of cabinets, deep in storerooms, and in the old shopkeeper's private drawers.
The owners of the shops Jason led the way to were all willing to give her face and bring out their most prized possessions. But when she scanned a few old shops that weren't on the list with her spiritual power, she was surprised to find that many of the shop owners had more hidden treasures than they had on the surface.
However, despite the large number of items, only a few caught her eye.
Most of them were gold and silver items, exquisitely crafted, but lacking the quality she wanted.
Seventeen was playing out in her mind to the fullest, and she kept muttering about it as she walked.
"This won't work."
"This one won't do either. It's old enough, but it's just an ordinary piece of old jade."
"This is interesting—hmm, no, let's scan it again, it still doesn't work."
Jiang Zhiyu chuckled inwardly as it was read aloud, but remained outwardly composed. She actually managed to pick out seven or eight items that caught her eye. Without wasting words, she nodded at each item she liked, her actions becoming more and more decisive each time, without any hesitation whatsoever.
The three guys watching from the side had their eyelids twitching.
Later on, even Prince Heng didn't dare to stand in front of her anymore.
"If I had stood any closer to my cousin today, I'm afraid I would have asked my dad for living expenses and gotten a beating from him for asking too much."
After saying that, he winked at Lin Youan.
Lin Youan adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, maintaining his usual calm demeanor.
"You should calculate your own weight before deciding how much you want!"
Su Wenhao, on the other hand, was extremely proud, standing up straight as if he were a tycoon himself.
They walked and swept along, and Jason led them through most of the antique street. The sun was beginning to set, and their legs were starting to ache.
When you reach the end of the street, there's only one shop left.
Jason glanced at the half-open wooden door from afar and shook his head.
"Let's skip this one."
He lowered his voice.
"That old British man is really strange. He never looks at the goods before setting a price, and he always tries to rip off unfamiliar items. Last time, a friend of mine went in and took a look around. He asked for $60,000 for a small famille rose bowl from the mid-Qing dynasty, which made him so angry that he slammed the door and left. Let's not go and make ourselves miserable."
Jiang Zhiyu hadn't planned to go in anyway, and was about to turn around as he suggested.
Out of habit, he still swept his mental energy over there.
Her brows furrowed as soon as she glanced at it.
The items displayed in the shop were all pretty much the same, nothing new. But when her spiritual power probed deeper, beneath a layer of floor tiles, there was a low basement where a person was imprisoned.
It's not closed.
It was locked in an iron cage.
The iron cage was old. Inside, a figure was curled up, motionless, its breath so weak it seemed it could die at any moment.
Jiang Zhiyu paused for a moment.
Seventeen immediately became alert in her mind.
"Host?"
Jiang Zhiyu remained silent. She was not one to meddle in other people's business. In the current situation, it wasn't worth causing trouble for a stranger. She had already made up her mind: she would go around to a phone booth, call the police, and they would find out the truth as soon as they came in.
The thought had barely formed in his mind.
Her spiritual energy swept along the iron cage, then upwards, passing over the man's eyebrows and eyes.
In that instant, her gaze darkened.
Jiang Zhiyu's hand, hanging by her side, slowly tightened its knuckles.
A murderous intent rose instantly, but her expression remained unchanged. Jason, who was standing closest to her, suddenly shuddered.
"Ouch--"
He shrank back and glanced back at the wooden door.
"Why do I suddenly feel a chill in this area?"
Wang Ziheng also reached out and hugged his arm.
"A little."
He clicked his tongue.
"I said that old man always has a gloomy face; I bet even the wind blowing through the door has picked up his bad habits."
Lin Youan frowned slightly, his gaze lingered on Jiang Zhiyu for a moment, then subtly shifted away.
Su Wenhao was completely oblivious to what was going on. He was still preoccupied with figuring out how many items his cousin had brought in that day, and he leaned over to whisper to her.
"Cousin, are we really not going into this place?"
Jiang Zhiyu slowly raised her eyes, completely concealing any murderous intent, and her face returned to its usual smile.
"No more shots. Jason said no, so we'll listen to him."
She smiled slightly at Jason.
"Let's talk about it next time."
Jason was amused by her smile.
"That's right. We swept so much today, enough for Uncle Liu and his family to brag about in their circle for half a month. I can finally be a big shot, haha! My extravagant little cousin is the one I brought."
Jiang Zhiyu followed the group as they turned around, and without stopping, went straight out of the antique street.
As she walked out of the street corner, she didn't look back, but she had already memorized the location of that shop clearly in her mind.
After leaving the antique street, it was already quite late. Jiang Zhiyu wasn't stingy; he took his four buddies to a nearby Chinese restaurant, booked a private room on the second floor, and ordered a large table of dishes in a lively atmosphere.
After a few rounds of drinks, she took out four envelopes from her bag, one for each person, and pushed them in front of the group.
"This is just a small token of my appreciation."
Her tone was casual.
"The information my three cousins provided was really useful. They even accompanied me to search the entire street today; they really worked hard. If we get any new leads in the next few days, the price will be the same."
Jason took it first, and as soon as he felt the pressure, his eyes narrowed.
"Cousin, you're too kind."
He tucked the envelope into his pocket and laughed until his eyes disappeared.
"Don't mention it. The pay is generous. I kept my word from yesterday."
Wang Ziheng quickly followed suit, stuffing one into his pocket as well, looking around furtively like a thief.
Lin Youan was a beat slow; he weighed the envelope in his hand and looked up.
"Cousin, don't be so formal."
"It's what you should give."
Jiang Zhiyu nodded to him.
"It's true that you are my cousin's friends, but this trip has been exhausting and arduous."
Lin Youan stopped refusing, put the envelope away, and nodded slightly to him.
The dinner table was lively for a while, but Jiang Zhiyu put down her chopsticks before the dessert was even served.
She placed the napkin on the edge of the table.
"I have some personal matters to attend to, and I'd like to stroll around the area a bit more later."
Su Wenhao immediately tried to get up as well.
"I'll stay with you."
"Need not."
Jiang Zhiyu smiled and patted his shoulder.
"I'm just wandering around by myself, hoping to find some trinkets. I'll go home by myself tonight."
Su Wenhao muttered a couple of things before Jason and Wang Ziheng pressed him back into his chair from either side.
"Your cousin said you don't need to go with her, so don't go with her."
Jason waved his hand.
"Come on, I'll finish this meal with you today, and then Ziheng will take you home."
The group of people at the table were making a ruckus, their laughter drowning out the sounds of carriages and horses outside. The four guys chatted for a while, then walked away arm in arm.
Jiang Zhiyu was the only one left in the private room.
The waiter quietly refilled the last cup of tea and left.
The door clicked shut.
Jiang Zhiyu remained seated, her fingers slowly tracing the rim of her cup.
The relaxed smile she had at the dinner table gradually disappeared from her face.
She looked up and saw that the streetlights outside the window were already on.
Seventeen.
She kept her voice very low.
"It's time to go and meet the owner of that shop."
