Erbao squinted his eyes to look.

The man was wrapped in a thick, tattered black cotton-padded coat, with a worn-out baseball cap covering his head, his face completely covered. He was carrying a large net bag and was crouching down like a thief, reaching towards the wooden boardwalk of the shrimp pond.

"That's Grandpa Liu's shrimp pond," Erbao said in a low voice.

Yu Bao, with his bare little body, shivered in the cold wind, and a flash of inspiration struck him.

"Brother, let's swim across."

Youbao pointed to the undulating net cages over the shrimp pond, "Dive over there, hide in the water and pretend to be a ghost to scare him."

Erbao hesitated.

It's high tide now, and the seawater is crashing in one wave after another.

"Are you sure you can handle this?" Erbao looked Youbao up and down. "The water's cold, are you a good swimmer?"

Youbao crossed his arms and shivered again, but he forced his chest out.

"Just average, third in Shenzhen!"

He boasted shamelessly.

Erbao is used to being wild and has a fierce streak in his bones.

Provoked by Youbao, he immediately nodded.

"If you can't manage, just tell me, and I'll drag you ashore."

He picked up two palm-sized stones from the ground and gave one to Youbao.

"Take it for self-defense."

Holding their breath, the two carefully waded into the sea.

The water barely reached his knees when Youbao's teeth started chattering.

With gritted teeth, the two plunged into the murky waves.

On the sea, several broken planks of wood bobbed up and down with the waves.

Yang Zhixin stood on the wooden boardwalk, pulled his baseball cap down a bit, leaving only his eyes showing.

He's short on money lately.

With the Chinese New Year approaching, my pockets are emptier than my face.

He spent three days scouting Xiaoquan Village and figuring out the patterns of Liu Yidao's shrimp ponds.

At this time of day in the afternoon, there isn't a soul in sight at the harbor.

He hated Liu Yidao to the core.

He humbled himself beforehand, even willing to become Liu Yidao's adopted son, hoping to benefit from Liu's influence.

As a result, Liu Yidao sided with that old woman, Liu Dahua.

They kicked him and his mother out.

Yang Zhixin squatted down and deftly untied the thick hemp ropes binding the net cage.

He lifted the opening of the net and used the net bag in his hand to scoop water into the water.

When Yang Zhixin picked it up and took a look, he was so happy that his lips twitched.

The net was full of enormous tiger prawns, each one longer than an adult man's hand, jumping and splashing in the water.

These tiger prawns can fetch exorbitant prices during the Spring Festival.

This net can easily fetch at least a hundred or two hundred yuan.

He gripped the iron ring of the net tightly, bent down, and tried to lift the net cage at the bottom.

"Bang!"

A rock the size of a palm burst out of the water and landed squarely on Yang Zhixin's shoulder.

Yang Zhixin was in pain.

With a tremor of his hand, the net he had just pulled out of the water splashed back into the water.

"Who?" Yang Zhixin stood up straight and looked around.

The wind howled all around, and the waves crashed against the wooden stakes of the pier.

The shore was bare and deserted.

Yang Zhixin felt uneasy.

He peered down into the water.

Just as he stretched his neck, the water suddenly burst open with a splash. Two hands gripped his right ankle tightly.

"Holy crap!"

Caught off guard, Yang Zhixin lost his balance and fell headfirst into the sea.

The icy seawater instantly poured into Yang Zhixin's mouth.

His thick cotton-padded coat absorbed water rapidly upon contact with it, becoming as heavy as a stone, dragging him down.

Yang Zhixin flailed his arms in terror, trying to pop his head up.

Just as he managed to poke half his head out, a dark shadow flashed before his eyes.

"Take this!" Youbao, naked, leaped out of the water, his face full of excitement. With his eyes closed, he rammed his little round head straight into Yang Zhixin's nose.

"Thump!"

A muffled thud.

Yang Zhixin saw stars, felt a sharp pain in his nose, and blood mixed with seawater gushed out.

He was so dizzy from the impact that he exhaled the breath he had just taken in and choked on a mouthful of bitter seawater.

He waved his hands wildly, and finally saw who had attacked him.

They turned out to be two teenagers.

"You little brats, you're asking for it!" Yang Zhixin was furious. Ignoring the blood streaming from his nose, he reached out to grab Youbao's neck.

Erbao kicked his legs violently underwater, surfaced, grabbed Yang Zhixin by the collar of his cotton-padded coat, and pressed him down.

"Youbao, step back. Don't bang your head like that, it'll hurt you to death!" Erbao yelled.

Youbao rubbed his reddened forehead, splashing in the water and shouting:

"Brother, press him. He's a bad guy who steals shrimp."

"I'm holding him down." Erbao pressed down hard on Yang Zhixin's shoulders with both hands, desperately pushing him down.

Youbao grabbed Yang Zhixin's arms, which were flailing wildly, with her two little hands and pressed all her weight onto them.

Yang Zhixin swallowed two large mouthfuls of seawater as the two children weighed him down. His cotton-padded coat, soaked with water, became a fatal burden, so heavy it felt like armor, making it impossible for him to float.

But he was, after all, a grown man, and his strength was extraordinary.

After calming down from his initial panic, he stepped onto a wooden stake at the bottom of the pier and exerted force.

"Get out of here!" Yang Zhixin roared.

He shoved his arms upwards, forcefully separating Erbao and Youbao. Then, he grabbed Erbao's arm with one hand and rummaged around in the water with the other, pulling Youbao's hair.

"You want to arrest me, huh?" Yang Zhixin's face turned fierce, and he gritted his teeth. "Mind your own business, I'll kill you all today."

As he spoke, he exerted force with both hands and dragged the two children towards the bottom of the water with all his might.

Underwater currents are surging.

Erbao felt a tremendous force pulling him down, and the seawater instantly submerged his head.

He struggled desperately.

Erbao opened his eyes underwater.

Beside him, Youbao was kicking his little legs frantically, spitting out a long string of bubbles, his little face turning red, clearly about to give up.

Erbao's heart sank suddenly.

I don't care if I get dragged down.

His biological mother, An Xiyang, had long since abandoned him. His father had his older brother by his side, and his new mother was also there for him.

Nobody cares about his life.

But Youbao can't.

Youbao is Grandma Song's darling and Aunt Shen's lifeblood.

If something happens to this silly boy, the sky will fall down for our family.

Erbao popped his head out of the water, panting heavily.

"Let him go!" Erbao shouted hoarsely.

Yang Zhixin grinned maliciously: "Let go? Neither of you will get up here today."

Erbao's eyes turned red with anxiety.

He turned around and lunged forward, biting the back of Yang Zhixin's hand that was holding Youbao.

"what!"

Yang Zhixin cried out in pain and subconsciously released Youbao.

He slapped Erbao across the face with his other hand. "You little bastard, you dare bite me."

Erbao was beaten until his ears rang and his vision blurred, but he clung tightly to Yang Zhixin's waist and shouted at Youbao:

"Swim quickly to shore. Go find the adults."

Youbao choked on a mouthful of water and floated on the surface, coughing violently.

"Brother, I'm not leaving. I'm going to fight the bad guys."

Youbao clenched her little fists and tried to move closer.

"Get out of here!" Erbao yelled, his voice cracking. "I have to protect you here. Go and call for help!"

Youbao was stunned, realizing for the first time that he was a burden.

Gritting his teeth, he turned around and swam desperately towards the shore.

"Still trying to run?" Yang Zhixin released Erbao and turned to chase after Youbao.

Erbao grabbed Yang Zhixin's leg from behind, and he sank to the bottom of the water like a stone. "You're not getting over here," Erbao said, holding his breath and gripping Yang Zhixin tightly with both hands.
